E36 M3/4/5 13 year owner here. Has been amazingly reliable and the aftermarket support is amazing. The only upgrade to my car has been a Stromung exhaust that sounds awesome. The car is very torquey and just a joy to drive. It rides likes it’s on rails and you have to try really hard to spin out. It refuses to do so. I’m going to supercharge mine after all these years and should be pushing 350hp easy. Not that it needs it but just the next level up. Plus it’s a small investment considering I only paid $8k for it.
Yup. Ever since the 90s me and my friends had these E36 and these cars really wake up with a turbo or supercharger. Oh the DTm days. The e36 were the best and fastest. We would smoke 540is and E46 m3s all day long. Get a good set of 18 inch wheels and big brakes. And YOUR SET. A proper turbo or supercharger and the e36 is PERFECT!
E36 46 92. 30 is ok. After 92 they all look the same like a bunch of beefy camerys. Ive driven 46 and 36 back to back to back and those two take the cake. 92 was good but felt too much like modern gen camero in terms of size and cabin fit/size. 46 36 was just right and tight. 46 was a little too pretty and modern but amazing. 36 on the street is equally as fun imo. "Rawness" is a true term. E36 didnt age well in the early 2ks but dam are they looking good as we frwd in time. 36 46 you cant go wrong. Neither will not blow anything modern away at the stop light grand prix but stretching each throughout the first 3 gears is so fun and gratifying. Great review!!
My 36 is slower than my 92, but it feels quicker (even at lower speeds,) because it is so much smaller. On our small European roads it’s so much more fun.

You should come drive mine. I bought it new in June 95. 79k miles now. It’s a little different. It’s got 320 supercharged rwhp, a 3.38 40% diff, and a E46 M3 6 speed… plus a lot of other stuff. As for tires. Who in their right mind would actually drive on tires from the 90s? I’m about to replace the tires that only hav3 maybe 3000 miles on them, but they are 10 years old.. Old tires helped kill Paul Walker…
LOVE the E36, great car man ! I had a UK 328is with M3 front/rear splitters and wing. Never should have sold it, running 230bhp reliable, comfortable, and fantastic looking car. Basically the same engine as the US M3, minus the cams. I'm in an OG M2 now, which is a fantastic car, but it doesn't have the analogue feeling of the E36. I had the BBS wheels on, but those sunflowers on yours are the best wheels. US spec E36 M3 was lacking a bit in power compared to the UK spec which had 286bhp for the early 3 litre, and 321bhp for the later 3.2 litre. These are still great cars though, and I see values of good examples are rising fast. Great colour too ! Mine was Boston Green.
Haha! I love it when people use the term “nostalgic” when describing things like the 🔑’s as it comes standard to me 😌 had the same car for over 15 years … Peugeot 306 XS 16V 1 of 13 left in the uk And I don’t think I’ll buy another as for me it’s 👑 Great video btw!!
Does it have slower/clumsier steering ratio compare to the E46 M3? Does the E46 M3 have slightly less steering feel? Does the E46 M3 have a firmer or cushier ride?
There always one of these guys in each E36 video or post lol. It's YOU this time. This has already been addressed a miliion times. The S50 is literally barley faster and everything else is the same on the car. Stop it already.
E36 S52 Engine is amazingly reliable and I laugh all the way to the bank. I also have an E46 M3 w S54 and while awesome that thing weighs a lot. Like 300 lbs more. If you’ve ever picked up a 100lb bag of grain, rice etc you get a real feel for how much weight that is. The 36 is lighter, revy, reliable and no laggard at 0-60 at 5.8 sec. Supercharge it and you’re done. Booyah! The euro version, that thing will spend a lot of time at the shop and will cost a fortune to keep running.
@@DonBMW Exactly, other than the drivetrain (including 6-sp tranny for the Euro 3.2), rest of the car is the same as the Euro E36 M3. & “choosing to own the Euro version instead” is actually a foolish decision: th-cam.com/video/Xatzi2Whnjo/w-d-xo.html
Which M3/M4 generation is your favorite?
E36, E46, E92
The best of the bunch
@insansiregar6158 👍💪👏
E36 😎

Now you need to try out the Euro spec. Mostly just a different power band but definitely worth experiencing both.

Supercharged M cars are fun. I had a supercharged e46 m3. Enjoy in good health

I just like going around turns with it. I'm pretty sure the balance feel is the result of its 50/50 weight bias.
I have an e46 m3 but truely miss my E36 m3 !!

Only those who experience the "key" era will understand! Thanks for watching!
Does it have slower/clumsier steering ratio compare to the E46 M3?
Does the E46 M3 have slightly less steering feel?
Does the E46 M3 have a firmer or cushier ride?
No, but replacing the original progressive rack with the the Z3 linear rack helps (same turns lock-to lock, but quicker in the middle).
Yes
Cushier
E36>E46
This is not a M car. It´s an E36 with an beefed up M52. The S50 is a beast compared to the S52.
There always one of these guys in each E36 video or post lol. It's YOU this time. This has already been addressed a miliion times. The S50 is literally barley faster and everything else is the same on the car. Stop it already.
Us spec are rubbish not a true muscle car ..European spec make 321hp
