Happy is an adjective, not a verb. Why would you call it a verb? 🤔

You are correct. I was trying to introduce the verb to be as a state of being which needs adjectives. Sorry for the confusion.

Why should a beginning English student learn 'A verb is an action or a state of being'?

A beginning level class includes several different levels of skills and learning styles. It is difficult to meet all of these student needs in a single video lesson. Some students want definitions and grammar rules while others do not. The important point of this lesson is for beginning level students to see the importance of the verb “to be”. And to begin practicing using “to be” for their state of being and to use it with beginning level action verbs.
