  • The text of "Dona Nobis Pacem" (give us peace) is a short prayer for peace from the Agnus Dei of the Latin mass. This is a round for three parts, the melody has been passed down orally. It has often been attributed to Palestrina however there is no evidence to substantiate that. English-language hymnals usually mark it "Traditional". The melody is relatively easy, with the second and third line supplying mostly harmony to the first line, with many long notes versus the flow of the first. The lyrics repeat the phrase "dona nobis pacem" throughout the song. In this arrangement, the melody starts with the right right hand in the treble, the left hand provides accompaniment. When the right hand starts the second phrase, the left hand starts the beginning of the melody in the bass. Thus the round is played on the harp as the left hand follows the right hand.
