Nice to see a Roberts 770X in there. I have the Akai M8 in good working order. Love it.

some more great machines --- very cool. I think that Concertone with the HUGE buttons was designed for visually impaired or intoxicated operators.

Спасибо вам за такой обширный обзор магнитофонов , которых мы и в детстве не видели не говоря о настоящем времени. Благодарность вам за это всё , что не утратилось , но и в рабочем состоянии. Это превыше всех похвал.

I'm glad to see some one is collecting these old machines. I have my mom's Ampex 2000 series and it still works, but I have to stop the reels by hand as the brakes don't work good. I often wonder how many old recordings are out there and not being transferred to modern media like cassettes or CD's. I have a funny story about R2R recording. I had a crush on a girl in high school speech class and the teacher assigned us to make a recording of our speech. She asked me if she could come over and record her speech on my mom's machine. How can a guy get so lucky? Well, she recorded it and when I went to play it at school, there was no recording. I have played that tape a dozen times and have yet to find that recording. I must have been so excited that she was over to my house, that I didn't put the machine on record. Great way to impress a girl, huh?

I have a Philips N4422 reel to reel tape recorder that was adapted by Cresta electronics with a Sprocketmaster control unit to sync other recorders or film with pulse or sprocket. It was used back in 1974 when I was film making, but needs service to bring it back to life. Is there somewhere in the UK, ideally the Midlands, where I could take it for service and renewal of the drive belts?

    Ferrograph 4a/n (mono)
    Chilton 100S (Tom Reps design)
Teac A2300SD, which I still use.

We received a comment about our Tandberg 11 mention in this video and just wanted to clarify.
From: "all kinds of things -
Tandberg made by a professor in Australia? Tandberg is a Norwegian brand" The narrative actially states the Tandberg 11 was "donated" by the Austrailian professor, not "made by."

It's time I dug my Teac 3400 out of storage and put it back in service. I would like to ask you if it is possible to update my Teac deck to 15 ips and better heads.

The non-profit entity dissolved: In December 2017, after five years of working to create a permanent public non-profit museum, the Board decided we'd had given it our best effort and the non-profit was dissolved. Some of the significantly valuable vintage devices that had been donated to the Museum were purchased by the Theophilus permanent collection owners. Other donated items were sold to interested parties and the remaining funds donated to the non-profit "Swan Songs." The non-profit museum ceased to exist on December 31, 2017

That's too bad. I've always been an audio guy and had a deep interest in recording tech. Back in the '70s, I was too young to have direct experience with the higher end, studio reel recorders but I liked them so much, my mom would occasionally bring home a basic reel machine from her school. I have no idea why the school used it but I would spend the weekend playing around on it, pretending to make studio quality tapes. Sounds pretty lame now but it was entertaining back then. A lot of my church's music had accompaniment tracks on reel tapes back then, so there was a need in mid-sized to larger churches for high quality machines. I thought for sure that as I got older I'd be running the machines. However, by the time I was in youth choir, this need had all but vanished as the tracks had gone primarily to cassette tape and then a few years later to CD. The reel medium had died. I still make the random inquiry on Craigslist and FB marketplace to see if a reel machine is available to add to my studio, but that's a fools game. I have no use for it and I have little enough space as it is. I actually have both a need and rack space for a cassette and CD deck (hopefully a single deck for both) that I'm looking for but I don't have any tapes to play on a reel machine. Thanks for the video. Sorry to hear the non-profit didn't work out, but I can't say I'm surprised. There just aren't very many of me out there, and there is literally no one younger than me with the fascination I have for these machines.

@@scott1564 Hi Scott! Thank you for your message. Since we ended the non-profit and maybe due to Covid, I've been amazed at the number of Facebook reel tape recorder groups that have sprung up. Maybe we tried too soon! (:-)
