In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Ironclad. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. Same, I thought corruption, feel no pain, and dark embrace was the holy trinity for the ironclad, but dark embrace can take you a long way
Dark embrace was once the Rare one of that holy trinity, they switched rarity with corruption later on. Although it might still be the strongest card in ironclad'd deck
@@leandrocastello309 yeah its definitely the strongest clad card in an "Average" clad run. Finding and upgrading it seems like a checklist item a lot of the time.

The streak is the goal! Baalors challenge for 2024 is to try for a 20 streak on every character - hence all the Clad runs currently.

To avoid the: "Wait, What?" from 33:41 I use a mod that displays the amount of damage you are going to receive. We are getting older Baalor and sometimes our math is not mathing enough 😆
The mod wouldn't help here.
The mod would have shown 58, but he was calculating taking 42 due to Gremlin Leader dying on the second hit to Flame Barrier reflect damage.
He calculated 42 damage minus the 29 block, which is 13, so he was correct in the damage he would have taken after 2 hits from Gremlin Leader.
The miscalculation was that he thought Flame Barrier was going to do 10 reflect damage for some reason so she didn't die after 2 hits and he took the full 58.
@@thekilla1234 How would the mod not help here? If the mod showed 58 Baalor would have realized that his calculation was not correct.
@@hugomougard No, if the mod showed 58 his calculation wouldn't be any different.
The mistake in his calculation had nothing to do with how much damage he was taking, and everything to do with Gremlin Leader only getting 2 hits instead of 3 due to dying to Flame Barrier reflect damage. He calculated based on Flame Barrier reflecting 5 damage per hit, but it was reflecting 4 damage per hit. This isn't enough to kill Gremlin Leader after 2 hits so she got a third hit that he wasn't expecting due to this error.
It doesn't matter if he had a 58 over his head, that won't change that he thought Flame Barrier was reflecting 4 damage per hit and not 5.
To prove he knew it was 58 damage, the calculation he ended up with was Reaper would leave him 1 health higher than ending the fight immediately:
- Total damage is 58 (this is what the mod would show).
- He thought Flame Barrier was reflecting 5 damage per hit instead of 4, so after Reaper does 6 to Gremlin Leader, that leaves her at 10, so 5 reflect damage would perfectly kill after 2 hits, but 4 reflect damage would not.
- 1 less hit from Gremlin Leader means 58 - 16 = 42 expected damage.
- He has 29 block, so 42 - 29 = 13 damage.
- Reaper heals 4 + 4 + 6, which is 14 healing (4 from each minion, 6 from vulnerable Gremlin Leader).
- This leaves you 1 health higher (take 13 damage, heal 14), which is exactly what he calculated.
The actual outcome is that reflect damage from Flame Barrier is only 4 per hit, and not 5, so he took a third hit. This is why he was confused, because he didn't expect the third hit.
@@thekilla1234 If the mod shows 58 it's supposed to mean that 58 will be taken, accounting for everything. If the mod doesn't account for everything (including early death from thorns), the mod serves no purpose. The hard part in calculating total incoming damage in StS is not to do the products and sums displayed in the intents as you probably know if you played more than 2 runs, but to account for everything else. Anyway I don't get your point and I still think you're wrong and that a good mod would have helped here.
@@hugomougard I have the mod. It's part of Minty Spire. It literally just shows how much incoming damage there is. It doesn't do a combat simulation.
As you literally said, the mod doesn't account for this, so the only purpose it serves is combining damage totals.
The mod would show 58, which is the total incoming damage.
I wasn't saying "a mod that does a combat simulation" wouldn't help, I'm saying the mod that shows incoming damage wouldn't help, which is what the original comment is referring to because a mod that does a combat simulation doesn't exist, but a mod that sums incoming damage does. The original comment brought this mod up because he misunderstood why Baalor took more damage than he was expecting and assumed he added up the numbers wrong, which I explained wasn't the case.
You don't get my point because you're assuming I'm talking about a mod you just made up, and then said I'm wrong about something I'm not even talking about.
Why is the Ironclad a bad mediator? He's too entrenched in his position.

Is there a reason why he's mainly uploading ironclad, or are these the runs that just happened to be good?
Baalors challenge for 2024 is to try for a 20 streak on every character - hence all the Clad runs currently. He said he will keep going on Clad until he either hits at least a 15 streak or until April.
