    This is the most comprehensive dashiki tutorial on TH-cam!! My biggest issue was doing the neckline and this helped me soooo much! Thank you!

      You're welcome! That was my biggest challenge as well. Through the trial and error, I finally learned.

      This is how I found this video. I was searching for how to handle the facing.

    Girls ain't the only one one wants this. I'm trying to learn how to make these myself. I can't wait to wear my Ghana/Nigerian style dashiki. This brother is PROUD of his African heritage. So what I'm American? I'm AFRICAN first.

    thanks so much for sharing this. It helped me figure out how to use the dashiki panel to make a dress for myself. Just so you know though, that solid piece of fabric at the neck that you're adding is called the facing, not a yoke. In dress-making, the yoke is something else totally different :-)

    I got a beautiful piece of fabric and I don't want to cut the nicely line ends. This video will help me create a beautiful dashiki top.

    I wish we can get a hair tutorial. Your natural hair is so beautiful. And I see that your protective styles help in maintaining that.

    This is another great video you have shared. I'm having a problem getting the neck large enough. I don't want to mesh it up like I did another shirt. I cut out two sections but it still will not go over my head. How can I measure this Ankara fabric to fit over my head. What is the measurement of your panels?

  • @reddssladee
    @reddssladee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, how would I figure out measurements for kids please? I'm trying to make for my sister and her two boys!

    Nice, you make it really simple.
    next you have trouble with your camera going in/out of focus, just take it out of auto focus or close your aperture to somewhere around 3 - 4.5 .
    thans\ks for the video.

    • @MontoyaMayo
      @MontoyaMayo  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Prince HWC Thank you for the compliment. I took the auto focus off when I recorded my 4th tutorial. Trial and error. I'll have to try out the aperture trick, thanks for the tip.

    I understood all you did except for near the end when you machined down your marks, you left the bundle of fabric beside where you had sewn it, you didn’t trim it off, so how did the sleeves appear?plus with picture of it being worn, it didn’t show any excess fabric anymore, where did it go? Is it possible to get a paper pattern of this Dashiki to use as a guide.
    Many thanks

    Was the dashiki long enough? My fabric, when folded in half to cut through the centre, is very short. It would only make a crop top if I did it this way. U stead, I had to line up two panels and could not get the beautiful symmetry you got.

    • @mookiepearl
      @mookiepearl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would fit as a crop top or only long enough for a child.

    • @MontoyaMayo
      @MontoyaMayo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, mine was long enough. The dashiki panels come in 2 lengths. I used the panels that are 72 x 46 (www.etsy.com/listing/254835722/2-yards-royal-blue-color-dashiki-fabric?ref=shop_home_active_5&sca=1)

      @MontoyaMayo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You got this! I'm self taught as well, with each project your set of skills will grow. I started off making bow ties, I never taught I'd be making full garments like I do now.

    found the collar to be more difficult for a new time sewer

    • @MontoyaMayo
      @MontoyaMayo  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anna Pronesti Yeah, the collar can present some challenges. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can clarify anything.
      The first time I made it I think I got lucky, because the second one I had to pull out my seam ripper for the collar. By the time I got to my third, I'd learned so much from my errors that I was able to improve.
