How To: Boards and Platters

There's a lot of different kinds of cheese boards you can consider when you're making your next cheese board or when you're having people over. I have maybe a little cheese board problem. But after this video you might have one too. So I like to keep my eyes out for all different kinds of cheese boards. This really amazing piece is a petrified wood. It's heavy like marble, but it's really beautiful. It's a really unique natural shape. I love wood cheese boards. This one is olive wood, one of my favorite woods for a cheese board and it oils up nicely. This is one that you can get from shopboardsandco.com. It's a perfect size for two, as you're getting ready for dinner, make yourself a little cheese plate before and then, you know, cook dinner together. It's really fun. This little guy. I love it because it's light. It's one that I could travel with, if I needed to, it's hand-carved handmade. And it's hard to find one like this. Again, that's another Shop Boards and Co option as well as this guy and this is the pebble board and I just love to hold this.
I have to remember to take it out of my hands so I can put cheese on it, but it's beautiful. It's acacia wood. Then you can do wood and marble together. Marble is a beautiful surface for cheese, you know, I love marble. Even my work surface is marble and I love the combination here. With that little bit of brass in there. It just makes a fun board. And then I'm always looking for a fun board that's got a great handle or a unique shape like this one. It's just different and, you know, I can never have too many boards.
Let's talk about ceramic boards. We have a couple options here. I love this long skinny option for just me, and a few of my girlfriends, it slips on a little table nicely with us. We can put it on an end table between us and have a little chat with a couple glasses of wine each or, or we can each have our own, and it's just really unique. And I think a lot of times people don't think of like, a long, skinny cheese board, but it makes a beautiful cheese board. And like I said, I'm a real sucker for a wood board. And this is a faux wood board also known as faux Bois, which means it looks like fake wood. It's got a metallic coating but it's still a ceramic board. I can clink it there for you. And it's even got what looks like a live edge on it. It's just a really fun board. It's fun to pull that out and especially for a really special sort of fancy occasion. Great for New Year's Eve because it's got that sparkle Talk about occasion.
This one is a great one for occasions and I couldn't pass this one up when I saw it. I've used this in the cheese industry where we celebrate American cheese month and I've used it for that and Fourth of July and Memorial Day, all those great holidays when you're out picnicking. That is or having people over for a barbecue. That is a great board for that. And then what some would say, is the quintessential cheese board and I feel like, I need to get very reserved and proper because it's the slate cheese board and it is a beautiful cheese board. The dark color of a slate board just sets your bright, white cheeses. We just set it apart and it looks beautiful. And if you spread out your cheese and pairings in the room, you can use the special chalk to write on this and even write down what the cheeses are that people are trying.
And one last thing to leave you with is it doesn't have to be a cheese board or meant to be a platter for you to use it. This is actually a charger. A charger is something you would put, if you're setting a table, instead of using a tablecloth, you use a charger, and then you would put the plates on top of this but I think this makes a beautiful rustic sort of farmhouse themed cheese board. It's got a little edge on it so things don't roll off and, you know, it's just a little different. Nobody else I know has one just like this. So I hope you'll reconsider your next cheese board when you're building a cheese board and maybe you'll get addicted like I am.
