    Watch "The Baltic Coast: Wild Animal Paradise": • Primeval & Wild - The ...
    The wide, often untouched wilderness of the Baltic hinterland is home to many animals. More than 350 brown bears live in the primeval forests of Alutaguse. In the spring, the Soomaa National Park transforms into a huge lake. Europe's widest waterfall is located in Latvia. In the beginning of May, vimba bream follow the course of the River Venta. The hardly 50-centimetre-long fish have to overcome a 400-metre-long rock barrier in order to reach their spawning grounds.
    The Baltics are rich in superlatives: a fifth of the world's spotted eagle stocks breed here. One of the largest courtship arenas for snipes is located here in the floodplains of Latvia. More than 1000 wolves go on the hunt in Latvia's forests. Lithuania is the land of storks - with over 13.000 pairs, no other region in the Baltic States has more white storks.

    I can only hope that the Baltic states do not once again find themselves under evil Russian subjugation. They have come a long way since Soviet times, and deserve our support.

    I was sure surprised how much of the forested areas and fields Flood in the Spring from Snow Melt. One would have to be careful when you build a home as to not Build on a Flood Plain. As long as the Animal and Human Populations have enough areas to move to higher ground, I know this video is about Wildlife but it would have been nice to see how the people farm the land and what Industry they have in this Beautiful Country.

    Why do they keep calling the moose "elk"?

    • @FreeDocumentaryNature
      @FreeDocumentaryNature  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because "Elk" is the european name for this animal. And the Baltics are in Europe. :)

    • @nima9340
      @nima9340 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FreeDocumentaryNature None of those countries call it even something remotley similar to that. Also, "European" is not a language.
      What you're talking about is Brittish English. In which case, yes, the word is Elk. But most Europeans would use the word Moose when talking English.

    • @fidenemini111
      @fidenemini111 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lawrencer876 Moose is the name white settlers pick from Native Americans (Ojibway) as they already didn't have these animals at their original home countries and forgot how it looks. The Americans started to call a big American deer (wapiti) - "elk", and as the proper word was already given to the wrong animal, they needed the new one - American subspecies of European elk (it is still "elk"in British English - scientific latin name - alces alces).

      Just like in Finland, most forests r basically treefarms (that can b seen in this video's aerials too) with little of those animals. Old forests r sparse and located mostly on top half of Finland. Bears and other rare animals r lured for photography with carcasses. Anyhow weve to survive what we got: no oil, no coal, no gold mines, maybe tech or IT could make for living in the future.
