Nothing beats the BR1600, and I’ve had almost all multitracks, I wish Boss would have continue upgrading it, at least improved it to 24bit but overall it’s the multitrack I’ve been the most productive with, especially compared to using computers. Boss bring it back please!

I have the DP-32 with the cd burner and I also have a BR-1180CD. I love my BR-1180, I've had it for almost 15 years. It's easy to use and has great onboard effects. The CD burner stopped working years ago, but I have it lined out into a usb mp3 recorder anyway. The DP-32 I got a couple of years ago and have only used it a few times, mainly for live band recording. It's pretty good, but I need to spend more time figuring out how to operate it. For home recording I just always use the BR-1180 as it's always set up and ready to go. Can't go wrong with either deck though. I would like to get the BR-1600 with the 8 simultaneous inputs, like the DP-32.

let's fix this...the tascam can bounce tracks...to any tracks available, plus the can mix down to a separate 2 track file as though you were in the 80's and also had a stereo DAT or 2 track reel to reel in your studio.
IT's more like having a 32 track recorder plus a mixing desk, plus some effect machines, plus a 2 track machine to master to.
it's not much like a DAW..it has no "plugins and no midi tracks..."

I don't know what I liked more. Your obvious love of these toys (which I totally share), or the way Google translates "Boss BR1600" (first example at 0:22). LOL. Thanks for the review! I enjoyed it.

I love the Boss BR-1180 and was looking to upgrade to this Tascam. However I watched a TH-cam review of the Tascam and some of the buttons were already starting to fail, so I opted for another Boss. Glad I did because the build quality is so much better.

Yea I got the dp03 an the buttons are total garbage. They are the single reason I need to up grade. I will say none of them have complete failed but for the last 4 years getting the record button to behave has been enough to scare me from those cheapo round buttons

Nice video. I still have my original Tascam 2488 24 track from 2004 and the newer Tascam DP24SD. The older 2488 records to a 40 gig hard drive. You have always been able to bounce to any or all tracks to any available tracks on the Tascam 2488 or the DP24SD. The original Tascam 2488 had some neat features that were dropped on the next upgrade of the recorder. The original has a built in midi GM sound module and a built in midi player so you can download a midi file or midi drums into a separate track on the 2488 and play back through the midi module. The 2488 also has a library of midi drum loops that are quite usable. I used the 2488 for about 15 years now and did a few thousand hours of recording on it with no issues. I bought the DP24SD about two years ago when it was a "Stupid Deal" on Musicians Friend for less than $400. It works great for live recording and since it records to an SD card using .WAV files I can download all tracks to your SD card, pop it out and move them into my DAW (Reaper). While you could move tracks on the older 2488 it was a much longer process that required doing each track separately to the Fat 32 partition then exporting via USB to a computer. It took quite some time to do. In the DP24SD it can be done moving all tracks at once.

The dp32 can also bounce - you choose which track to use for the bounce result. You don't have to use the mixdown process if you don't want to.

Phil Tipping can the dp24 do the same as well? Are they exactly the same except for the extra playback tracks? I'll watch the video now as well.

+Don Vittorio Sierra - the dp24sd can definitely bounce. Not sure about the older dp24 (cd version), but you can easily check if you go to Tascam's web site. The specs & manuals for all their models are there.

Phil Tipping no problem since I'm not interested in the CD version. Ill do that part on my pc. I don't like the idea of a cd drive on these things since those are usually the first thing that breaks

      Hello Phil,
Sorry to say that I didn't get much from this comparison video. I know your works, and rely heavily on your opinions. I have a Boss Br 900 and just ordered the Tascam dp32SD. Did I waste my money? Is the DP32SD better than the Boss BR900? I still use CD's and I like on board guitar affects.
      Thanks a million!

@@aaronrivers64 I don't know much about the BR 900 I'm afraid, but have downloaded the manual and had a quick glance through. Here are a few features I noted on the BR 900 which are different to the DP32SD. There may well be others, but it's time-consuming... and I've other projects to do! :)
I've marked them with a '+' or '-' to indicate if I think this makes the BR900 better or worse than the DP-32SD, but note this is in my opinion only - your mileage may vary ;)
+/- CD drive. I've marked it both better & worse as I wouldn't use it anyway. I would always use a computer to burn CDs as it's faster and you have a lot more control.
      - Compact Flash card (vs sd-card). I believe these are less common than sd-cards so may be more expensive - you probably know this better than me. From the spec it looks like the limit is 1GB (vs 32GB), but having lots of smaller cards is probably better than one enormous one to avoid putting all your eggs in one basket.
? Smaller body. This is better for portability but worse for accessing controls and screen size.
      - Less faders.
      - Less tracks.
      + Rhythm section.
      - Less physical inputs.
      + MIDI out.
      + Digital out.
      + Battery operation.
      - 2 concurrent recordings vs 8.
      - 44.1KHz sampling vs 44.1K & 48K.
      - Unbalanced I/O vs balanced.
Bottom line is I don't think you've wasted your money, but only if the differences matter to you.
The Boss looks to be a very capable machine, but only you would know if it fell short of your requirements. I can't comment on the quality of the mic-pre-amps, digital convertors or the internal FX. The Boss appears to handle 24-bit/44.1KHz so this is only a small step down from the DP machine's 48KHz... CDs only use 16-bit/44.1KHz anyway.
Personally, although I'm biased as I already have a DP-32SD, I prefer the physically larger machine with lots of faders and a decent screen.
I don't know if the Boss has any limitations in the number of FX you can use concurrently, but a lot of the limitations on the Tascam can be worked around if you have a good understanding of the signal flow and routing possibilities within the machine... which is why my video series tries to explain that, at the expense of seeming a bit overwhelming at first ;)
If you bought the Tascam machine new from a respectable vendor, you should have the option of returning it if you're not completely happy.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

It bounces to 9/10 by default but you can change it to 11/12, 13/14, 15/16 if you want

I have an old BR 864 and a TASCAM 32SD. The BOSS is better in my opinion. I would have bought a new BOSS but they stopped making them. I like the built in drums with the BOOS and built in guitar effects and built in vocal effects. I think the recordings so far just sound better out of the BOSS too. The only thing so far that I like better about the TASCAM 32SD is there are more tracks so you don't have to bounce as much. Maybe the TASCAM will grown on me though, idk. So far, the BOSS recordings are more crisp and punchy. Possibly because of the preset guitar amplifier modeler thingy and separate built in drums.

Hi, thanks for the video, do you know a good way to get the data converter to wav format? I used the br600 prior to this and there was a BRWC wav converter application which made life very easy,

The BOSS of course has midi. Strange that he doesn't mention that important difference for many with sequencers. "Burning a CD" joined "Be Kind Rewind" a few years back.
