The Electrolux Epic 6500 SR vacuum cleaner that my parents purchased in 1997 and passed onto me still lives on! Great video - I disconnected the hose as you show and once again it works. You don't really need the full bag indicator. 15-minute job, thanks!

Appreciate this video still being here. I’ve had my Epic for 28 years and it just now started to have this suction sensor issue. Fixed it myself and looking forward to more mileage from my Electrolux!

    Great instructional video.
I picked one up with the power head and entire tool set for $3.00 at a garage sale. Including an unopened set of bags. The tube from the vacuum bag holder had come loose. Reattached it, worked! I did order new post-exhaust filters. Wow. Well worth the few minutes work.

I've found one of these in the garbage, with power head and all attachments, even the storage tray and a brand new bag. When tried it at home, it would turn on but shut off almost instantly. The bypass trick totally worked! Thank you, I have an awesome vacuum cleaner for free!

Our Electrolux canister is probably 25 years old but still my favorite vacuum. About 10 years ago the vacuum would shut off when put under strain. I would turn it off and it would start again but the same thing happened over and over. I had it successfully repaired and it continued to work fine until recently, the same problem reoccurred. After watching this video I fixed the problem - no charge!! Thanks so much for the guidance.

Thanks for this excellent video! My Epic is already sitting in my SUV, ready to be taken to the repair shop. After watching your great how-to instructions, I going to fetch the vacuum back inside and attempt the 'by-pass' solution myself!

Thank you, I wasn't comfortable taking apart my Epic 6000 SR and took it to a local vacuum shop and they told me it was an electrical problem. I told them exactly what I researched/watched online about the control valve. They did nothing and charged me $30.00 plus local sales tax. I came home today, watched this again and was able to fix the vacuum. Thank you for this video. My vacuum is working perfectly. I can't believe they told me it was "electrical" when I clearly explained to them what the issue was. This video gave me the confidence to take it apart, disconnect the valve and save my 25yo Electrolux. Thank you again.

This is why the vac/sew shops are dying. Customer service is the most essential part of my business. I bend over backwards to be nice when I have to explain to a customer why code won't let us do it their way. I, after over 40 years in the business still put in Sunday afternoons two or three times a month because a customer needs help NOW.
We used to have three vac shops in our little town. Now, one. The young man who runs that shop? He is honest, forthright, customer oriented. Keeps him in business at a profit.

When you took off the hose coming from the bag open control valve, to bypass it or make it non effective, shouldn't you have plugged both ends to prevent suction or vacuum loss?

I had the same problem with my vacuum cleaner constantly shutting down, even with a new bag. I put it on Craigslist for sale indicating the issue and nobody responded. Then I saw this video and disconnected that little hose. That was over a decade ago and it’s still running strong!

Thank you, our Electrolux 2100 had the broken valve problem, I disconnected the hose as you indicated and reassembled the unit and it's working fine again.. It's old, but it's size and power and little power brush head make it the best auto vacuum I've seen.. Thanks again..

I popped a new bag and exhaust filter on and started my Saturday vacuuming only to have my Epic Series turn off and the full bag light kicked on. Did some troubleshooting online and learned my sensor would probably need replacing. Too bad California is in pandemic shutdown because I need to vacuum!
In minutes, I found your video and had my 30 yr old machine in pieces and disconnected the sensor.
Thank you for the excellent guide! Big thumbs up!

AB Electrolux of Sweden (since 1919)--through its Electrolux North America, Inc. subsidiary--manufactures the appliances with the Electrolux brand (and many other brands) which are sold in stores, while Aerus LLC products are typically sold door-to-door in the US & Canada (as they have been since 1924).

Fixed many of these plastic Lux's back in the 2000's when they were coming due for motor replacement.
Had to be super careful with the early plastic models (the Hi-Tech and 2100). The plastic was especially fragile if it was yellowed.

Thanks for posting this, Lloyd! For your viewers' info., if the manufacturer stamped on the cleaner is "Electrolux Corporation" or "Electrolux LLC" it is the company that is now called Aerus LLC (since 2000 when it sold back the trademark and brand to AB Electrolux of Sweden). Go to aerushome.com to download or request free scanned users manuals. For warranty issues and ordering specific parts one will need to supply the serial # (5 digits between 2 letters) which is stamped on the stabilizers.

Sounds like the motor could be shot. If the motor is "whirring", but not running full power, it is likely sparking like mad at the commutator. I would recommend replacing the motor or taking the unit to a vacuum shop for assistance.

Once you have the body apart as shown in the video, you will see the wheels are held in by a C-clip on the inside of the housing. Pop off the C-clip, and the wheel will slide right out. Be sure to lubricate the new wheel axle when you replace it.

Unfortunately we have not found a way to fix that without replacing the lower housing completely. The axles on the wheels and the corresponding holes are worn down so far, that the wheels bow in under the weight of the vacuum and rub against the body. Glad the video helped!

It's too bad I didn't see your video before I decided to take mine apart. I was trying to fix the reel for the power cord. Even though I succeeded with breaking anything, unfortunately, I managed to pull off the leads to the motor and now I don't know where they go. I contacted Electrolux for a wiring diagram and they refuse give it out. They said to take it to a dealer for repair. Unfortunately, there isn't a dealer within 100 miles of where I live. The unit is model C141E, also called a Lux 5000, very similar to the one in your video. It has 3 wires that connect to the motor, a white, a yellow and a grey. That's it. Can anyone help? Thanks.

    • @cjbrens
      @cjbrens 4 ปีที่แล้ว

It took a while to find out, but at last I got the wiring correct. Sorry, but I closed it back up before I could take a snap shot. The trick is that a male terminal from the cord reel has to engage to the female terminal directly under it belonging to the blue exhaust compartment attached to the motor and then a white and a yellow wire piggy-back onto that. The grey wire goes on the other available terminal on the cord reel. I liked this vacuum so much, I kept it around for years. Now IT'S WORKING! And, I'll find some use for it. I had a lot of help from the Electrolux dealer in Pasadena. A tech there, Karen, was quite useful. I did take a photo of what was the critical connection for me. If someone needs it, I'll post it somewhere.
