- Triple Drain Pinball Podcast Episode 47 - Why No Balls in Mouth?!
Hosts: Joel Engelberth, Tom Graf and Travis Murie
2024 is here and we are back! In this episode we discuss our thoughts on both the JAWS and Looney Tunes streams as well as our overall opinion on negativity in the hobby. Tom and Travis talked about INDISC and some of the other tournaments going on in the next few weeks. This is a terrible summary but I doubt anyone actually reads them ;) Enjoy!

Holy shit Tom, the beard looks great! Don't cut it! ... Dr. Strange vibes🤣
Thanks Abeflips!
Thanks guys! Mature and helpful commentary. I also appreciate that you don’t rely on foul language to make a point. Swearing is the language of the inarticulate. This means that I can listen with my kids on the way to the ski hill! We have Jaws Prem on order - So much upside, and very little downside as far as I can see. Please keep it up. 👍
Gameplay is everything. Can’t wait to flip Jaws. But what you guys are forgetting is the value proposition at the price. When designing Jurassic Park, Elwin said Gary Stern walked by and told him the ” TRex needs to eat the ball.” Gary’s no longer there to do that and it feels like the opposite is happening. VENOM! Games are $1000’s more now to own and it feels like everyone is saying we should be happy paying more for ball paths. Looking forward to playing a Pro on location. Just wish there were drops!
Happy to hear Tom and Travis say Jaws is hard . Seems like a good Elwin formula , put the bash toy noob shot in the middle , and then have the harder shots for good players with deep code as well.
Great episode! Thanks for the INDISC talk and shoutout.
Enjoyed getting different thoughts on looking at a new pin, an education for me rather than as you said just wanting a Medieval Madness toy. Looking forward to seeing more video gameplay
I don't care what trolls say, I love listening to you guys & hearing your insights. I attended INDISC bc I live close. Great organization & participation, but they've got to do something about those painful wait times if they expect it to continue to grow. Travis, "a Sombrero that eats the ball" was a funny response to the complaints about the Shark not replicating a T-Rex. Adios, mi tres Amigos
Love this podcast. This and Flip n out with friends are two of the best pinball podcasts going right now. The negativity will all be forgotten in a few months when people get their hands on the machine. Same with pretty much every other game. I think the main frustration is not that the community doesn't trust Elwin but rather suspects that Stern cut they money short when a better mech could have been developed. Not that Elwin couldn't develop a better mech. for $13k there's an expectation that the game should shoot like an Elwin WITH astounding engineering marvels and toys packed in. It seems painfully apparent that the difference in quality between Maiden and Jaws does not warrant a $4,000!!! price increase.
…but if they released another maiden LE now it would also be 13k
Fun show. Elvira blood red kiss is a nice looking game. Do you need the optional modesty sticker???
Bond on a wand is a lot fun, but it's incredibly difficult. Hitting the section big jackpot is really rewarding, but it's really tough to pull off when you're trying to trap up and also move Bond around. Underrated for sure.
I noticed Tom’s got one of the expression speaker light options on his Rush, FF, and LZ. I love those on mine and I was glad to see Stern add them to Jaws LE.
Good convo guys
This game to me seems like the best mashup of all Elwins games and his favorite games.
Preordered the second i could .
When the code matures i think this will be up there with Jurassic PARK .
I’m more disappointed in the lack of a physical ball lock then a ball eating shark
I wasn’t interested in the Jaws theme, I felt burnt by Stern’s recent LE re-releases, and I’m out of space. I do love Elwin’s games and seeing the layout on reveal combined with Sterns statements to dealers about LEs and my trust in Elwin’s team to make a fun game I ended up pulling the trigger.
New to Pinball podcasts and trying to find a good one. This one is okay, but what’s the deal with the guy with beard? Do the other two not like him or something?
Ha. Just playful banter. Thanks for listening!
Big pp mech in game or no game
The market has change and ppl won’t settle with average, they want games like Bally/Williams 90s. It’s a wise decision to exclude a mech that won’t make the game fun, another thing it’s not having mechs at all and for non tournament players mechs are important!
Promoting an average game in order for ppl to spent money to maintain the sales from 2022 and 2023 may be a bad move for the industry because buyers will fell deceived and be more careful with the next games or lose credibility.
The Halloween you played needed an adjustment, plenty of people own the game and have no problem getting to the upper playfield. I see you bring this up often but you played a game that needed tweaking.
I agree...im not a very good player and played holloween for the first time and got up there several times each game.
Stop complaining about the trolls we all know who is at the helm of that pinball herpes ship , it was cool to see keith at indisc the same time that jaws rules taster video was playing.
