    I can read this was posted 2 years ago but.. As a white man who grew up with Phil Collins, and probably takes his music for granted, this video genuinely brought a tear to my eye. Not necessarily him on the drums but to see the reactions from people not of my tone. Bloody Brilliant. How many would do the same thing 2 years later?

      Okay, come on, let's be real for a second. I may be too passionate about. Sorry, if I am. That's, for me, not nostalgic. But in fact even more, it is not 80s defining. This is just music defining. Hope, I did not insult anybody.

    • @TYB1970
      @TYB1970 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've said this, too. The music, lyrics and voices were much better old school than the music of today. They sang with depth and if they sang right in front of you they would sound just as good. So sound or studio enhancement. Playing live sounds just as good and listening to the lyrics were like listening to literature. They made sense, some told stories, some were romantic without being nasty and some had morals to it. And seeing the younger generation loving it is a great thing.

    I'm 76 years old and seeing your generation appreciate real music is refreshing. Musicians really had to work it back in the day and some still are. Led Zeppelin's live performance of Stairway to Heaven is epic. So is Procul Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale. Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody live (when Freddie Mercury was dying from Aids and STILL performing) was the epitome of Rock 'n Roll.

    Funny incident (wasn’t at the time but now is) I had an ex-boyfriend who at the time nearly broke up with me because I wouldn’t get out of the car to go into the grocery store until the drum part kicked in and the song ended. Whoa he was so pissed. He didn’t get it at all though, you don’t leave this song without listening to the powerful moment of Phil on drums; in the store we angry-shopped. He wasn’t the one for me. It has been almost 17 years since that incident but it is still one of the funniest things I ever did.

    • @ContrarianCorner

      He did you a favor. Lol! You definitely made the right choice. I had an epiphany moment in high school the first time I heard B.B. King's "The Thrill is Gone." I rushed over to my first girlfriend's house so she could hear it and she literally laughed in my face, thinking I was trying to punk her. We didn't make it until the end of the month. It had nothing to do with the song but that was a great indicator that we wouldn't be compatible.
      I took my next girlfriend to see B.B. when he came to town and she thought it was one of the greatest things she had ever heard. We stayed together for several years. Not trying to knock people with different tastes. Everyone has their preferences. But certain things just can't be overlooked.
      Also, thanks for teaching me a new term: _angry-shopped_

    This music was normal for us in 1981. What an awesome time to grow up. It is also heart warming to see all these people who did not grow up on music to hear this and react this way. I have watched all these people, and it is amazing to see them realize that the stuff on the radio, spotify, and all the rest that they listen to has not in fact been music. Just a bunch of mathematically strung together notes without real artistry. Also, there is a huge difference between a singer, and someone who is autotuned.

      I was too also just literally shocked that these songs and artist were not known by everyone. I was a musician, lead rock and roll singer, keyboardist and songwriter. Graduated high school in 1981..our high school was 5 years and the music from 1977 to 1981 was real rock n roll . We had Aerosmith, Boston., 38 Special., Kiss., Queen, ACDC (my favorite), Van Halen,. Def Leopard. Cinderella. Guns and Roses,. Leonard Skynard. Eagles. John Cougar.Joan Jett. Pat Benatar. Fleetwood Mac., Rangers., ZZ Top, and the #1 band of all time..The Allman Brothers!! The list goes on and on. Special mention to KC and the Sunshine band and Kool and the Gang. I miss the brass instruments on stage..just makes you want to dance.

    I feel like there’s always two levels mind blowing to this song for first time listeners: Listening to the studio version and then seeing the live performance and realizing he does the drums.

      I agree, like you said, i bet a lot of people these days don't even realise that it's him playing the drums when they have only heard it and not watched it, i knew because obviously people of our generation remember it the first time around, either then or in the first few years after it came out, Does anyone remember that film with Phil Collins in called Buster - about the great train robbery, that's quite a good film.

      @@Christobanistan yes, I'm a child of the 80s, where are you from if you don't mind me asking, I'm from the u.k. i was thinking maybe because Phil Collins is British/English so maybe it's a lot more known in the u.k that it's him playing the drums, than in other places/countries. Maybe because my mum listened to him while i was growing up in the 80s maybe that's the reason i knew about him, you know maybe if my mum hadn't listened to him i might not of known that it was him playing the drums.😊

    Phil Collins was the drummer for the band Genesis, before he went solo.
    I was already married and in my mid twenties when this song was new. I look back and realize I was born into incredible decades of music, truly. The 50s, 60s, 70s, 80, yes, even some of the 90s.

    Phil Collins is the orginal drummer with the band Genesis which was formed in 1967. The orginal lead singer was Peter Gabriel (who is AMAZING... listen to Solsbury Hill or Don't Give Up). Peter Gabriel left the band in 1975 and Genesis couldn't find a good enough replacement so Phil Collins kinda took over as the lead singer. He left the bandmin 1996. And there ya go!

Some of the greats you just take for granted forgetting he's from another generation and there is 2 maybe 3 generations yet to discover them. Genesis was one of the greatest concerts I ever saw live.
