  • We were surprised when we found a gyrfalcon nest when we were photographing the landscape. The hike turned into three days of bird photography.
    In the nest were four chicks and the adults were busy feeding them.
    This is one of the first times we used our new Nikon Z7ii cameras with the Nikon Z 400 mm f4.5 lenses. We also used the 1.4 and 2.0 teleconverters.

    I had a magic moment some weeks ago, when a Gyrfalcon suddenly swooped by only few meters away, chasing a ptharmigan. They (Gyrfalcon) are purpose built to put it that way. We where out on the same mission as I was out hunting reindeer on the Hardangervidda plateau (Norway) when it happened.
    I see them every time during my outings. Very satisfying to watch them.
    Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴

      It is magical to see Gyrfalcons in their natural environment. It does not get more natural than when hunting ptarmigans or reindeer. Best greetings from Iceland.

    Thanks for this amazing video of the worlds largest Falcon. So great to see so many eyesses in that nest and how full of food they were, great set of parents there. I am sure your bodies were in pain after those long waits with nothing happening. "No pain no gain" comes to mind and it just goes to show lots of planning reaps rewards..regards to you both.

    Thank you very much. Please teach us how to protect and preserve this beautiful bird for Iceland and the world forever! Please help us to boost up ptargmigan populations and ensure safe nesting for this bird -- it is now like all great hawks very rare. Please make a beautiful record which will truly defend the precious beauty that still remains. Thank you very much.

    What a treat! As a birder and a lover of raptors, and especially as an aficionado of falcons, to suddenly see your video this evening, July 29th, was very wonderful. I have seen no gyrs in life, only on still photos. To see them in video is remarkable. Thank you for working so hard to get the necessary permissions.

      @GudmannAndGyda  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No surprises there. The Z7ii sensor scores higher than the Z9 sensor on Dxomark. Basically the same sensor, different processor and body size. They can create similar images in the right hands.
