Ride By Exhaust Comparison - Stock vs Arrow | Aprilia Tuareg 660

- The Aprilia Tuareg 660 has a lovely induction sound, but that is overpowered by the wind noise at pace and the stock silencer is very quiet. The bike has some fuelling issues as well which are due to the Euro 5 restrictions, and the catalytic converter can get very hot, which some owners have found uncomfortable. The Arrow full exhaust removes the cat, sounds great, saves weight and in conjunction with the UpMap ECU re-flash device and the remap tune from@gabroracing it has also sorted out the throttle issues at 30-40mph. So it is pretty much a win win win.
In this video, I compare the sound of the stock bike, vs the Arrow Indy Race slip on silencer vs the Arrow full exhaust and silencer. I don't want my bike to be obnoxiously loud, so it is nice to see, or rather hear that it is still not overpowering.
This video is best heard with headphones or a stereo speaker setup.

Impressive dedication to TH-cam film making on this. Setting up after each exhaust change, hopefully helps other users make their decisions. I like loud exhausts but cannot live with them for long.
Haha, it is a video I make for all my bikes I swap out the exhaust on, is annoying when the weather changes between exhaust swaps 😁

I think I like the intake sound with the stock exhaust rather than the Arrow exhaust. Good to know as I'll save some coin for not needing to upgrade. Thanks.!!!
The intake noise is lovely on this bike, although the wind noise takes over for me at my height on the bike at speed so can't hear it in my helmet beyond 50mph really. The main reason I got the exhaust was to sort the fuelling and lose some weight.... the weight can only really be achieved this way, but Aprilia have now released a new ecu map for the bike which sorts the fuelling apparently, so I too could have saved some dosh had I waited, but I had been waiting 6 months for them to sort it already.
Love the pops and crackles.
They are a bit annoying TBH, because the audio was recorded at the road side, you don't hear how loud it is on the bike so much. I've actually asked the chap who did the ECU map if he can reduce that a little.
Hi mate thanks for the great video. Would you tell how much power did you gain with the Arrow full system and how much weight did you lose?
thanks
I'd suggest looking at the manufacturers website to see weight etc. I have not dyno'd my bike either, so don't have numbers on power. It was def noticeable though and I'd highly recommend it as an upgrade.
Lovely mate, sound wise, but what sort of improvements are you getting with the breadbin gone, new can & headers? How is it in low gears in traffic?Smoothed things out with EU fuckery removed?
I keep meaning to do a follow up video to this answering those questions, but not gotten round to it yet.
The bike is like a totally different animal now, bottom end is smooth as silk and picks up so well. I have also found myself heading to the redline more as the bike revs happier too. The mid range is perfect now too... in all aspects the bike is so much and so noticeably better.
Hi. Very good vid. Loved the sound. There seems to be a lot of popping on the over run with Arrow exhaust. Any idea how to stop this. Cheers
Hi and thanks :-)
Aye, I have spoken to the company that made the map for the bike and asked if they are able to make a map that reduces this a bit as I'd rather it not pop so much too!
The full system sounds very nice indeed. I know what you mean about baffles in and a balance between noise and obnoxious - especially when meeting others on the lanes. You know my views on shared spaces
Cheers Paul, aye... gotta be respectful of the other users 🙂
Nice comparison 😉 I'm planning to do the same upgrade once the warranty expires. Have you solved the heat issue on the right side by removing the cat ? Also, have you noticed improvements on the low end/fueling with the gabro map ? Thanks !
Thank you 🙂
Ahh cool, I never really felt mine was excessively hot before, but it did reduce the heat on the right a little, it seemed to redirect it too, before it was more on my foot/ankle, now the heat is a little higher up and is reduced. The Gabro UpMap transformed the low/mid fuelling, like a different bike, really good... but at the time, the bike was on the original fuelling map from Aprilia, they have since updated the map which I have not tried myself, but heard from others that it was a lot better, but I am very happy with the Gabro UpMap tune.
@@HippoDrones thank you for such a detailed response ! Mine had the ecu update installed a few weeks ago and the differenze down low Is pretty noticeable. As for the heat on the right side it's not really a problem, it's just not that pleasant at lower speeds or while wearing lighter clothes, these are the only conditions under which it's noticeable. I was questioning myself if i could improve these aspects and your answer was really helpful, thanks a lot 💪
🙂👍@@giacomogiromini9813
Love the full system and looks way better than stock
Aye, saves a bit of weight too!
The full exhaust definitely surprised me as I thought it would be too loud per last video. You were right it's not too bad, granted the spark arrestor is still in the muffler. I think I'll go with the full arrow exhaust for my Tuareg as well. If you want to get rid of the decel popping you can get the evap/canister removal kit along with the sas valve removal kit with block off plates. It's my understanding that if you do those mods along with modding the airbox you'll be fully derestricted (@ both ends!), that's the route I'm going with mine. Thanks and great video again!
Hi Robert, I've spoken to the tuner who created the UpMap ECU flash, he is looking into an update to the map which will hopefully reduce or eliminate the popping. Cheers mate, appreciate it 🙂

That really would be a great second street bike and much easier to get than a T7, plus I think it looks way cooler. I am still trying to make my mind up on the next one.
Cheers Dave :-)
I was chatting to my dealership yesterday about the bike, he mentioned that the bike was getting a bad rep from the American owners... because they all service the bikes themselves, they don't get all the electronic firmware updates etc and have been complaining about stuff that would be easy fixes for dealerships to sort. I love the bike, but I'd not buy any bike that I couldn't easily get to a dealership that I trusted. I feel lucky to have one.
@@HippoDrones I can understand that. My AT actually required a firmware update. I think some people just don't get that all this technology is like any computer, it will need an update from time to time. I have to deal with it at work so I actually knew to ask about it and sure enough, my buddy who works there showed me how to do the updates myself. Easy peeze. I totally agree though, that was one of the main reasons I got rid of the Ducati, only 2 dealers in my area and the closest is 50 miles. The Aprilia Dealership is about 15 miles and 5 dealerships in Texas.
@@BigDaveTALKS 15 miles is close 👌
Thanks for the great series on the exhaust 👍 any noticable difference in the heat without the cat?
Hiya, it seems to reduce the heat slightly, but it also moves it further up higher, so you notice it on your knee rather than foot/ankle. I never found the heat excessive on mine, but it was very noticeable prior.

I thought it too loud to start with as well, but it has settled down after some miles, it is still loud, but I don't ride the trails fast, so my revs are generally pretty low which helps keep the noise down.

The bottom end throttle response is amazing and it has fixed the stuttering at a constant throttle at 30/40mph
The new sound sure has more chest hair. And the popping comes out too. I call that "sound of money" :P
Haha, very chest hairy 🤣
I've actually asked the person who wrote the map for the bike if he can reduce the popping a bit as it is just unburnt fuel
@@HippoDrones popping usually comes from lean fuel mix, like with carbs, when you shut the throttle, from high revs. But yes, the cause could be, that the injectors do not shut off completely, but rather act sort of like with anti-lag regime.
@@theodorstravels it is all wizard magic to me mate! 😀

@@theodorstravels hahaha good advice 😁
So what we all really want to know is...At any point during the rev range does the bike feel snapper, livelier or have a bit more power?
Hi Dan, the low down throttle response is vastly improved and is now smooth as silk, the stutter the bike suffered with at a constant speed around 30/40mph seems to have totally gone. I'm not a fast rider on this bike, so I couldn't say if the top end power was much different, but the throttle response is lovely now, and that is why I swapped out the exhaust and remapped the bike for! 🙂
@@HippoDrones that's great thanks for the feedback. It makes you wonder though - As with a lot of bikes with this common stutter issue why didn't they fix it before putting the bike into production. ON TOP of the purchase price us consumers have to dip deeper into our pockets again to sort all this sh1t that they should have done in the 1st place.
I fitted a full Arrow system to my KLE500 (only because B&C Express was on my doorstep) & it definitely livened the bike up with cleaner response. It's half the weight of the original exhaust too. Which was a bastard getting in the loft!.
Have you noticed any weight difference with the new lighter system fitted?
@@gtomcat321 it is all to do with emissions I think, so their hands are tied with ever tightening laws sadly.
Not yet, as not dropped the bike, but I doubt it will make a huge difference as it is the cat that is heavy which is low down
Standard one makes weather better lol
Hahaha... indeed... weather has been rubbish since swapping it out! 😁👍🤣
Did the full system make much difference to the performance?
I'm not really a fast rider on this bike, I have a GSXR for that stuff, so I've not really explored the top end of the rev range that often on the bike. but I can say that with the remap and full system, the bottom end throttle response is silky smooth and the stutter the bike had when holding a constant speed at 30/40mph has completely gone now, and that was the improvements I was really interested in. The bike def feels more perky up the rev range too, but I just don't use it much in that way. Aprilia have released a new map for the bike now though which should help those running the standard exhaust with the throttle issues I was having.
