Admittedly, ignorance is hard to understand. But the bigger questions are why the public was never taught how civilizations built structures in deserts had conditioned the temperature in buildings without electricity, coal, and mechanical air conditioning. Civilizations that lasted thousands of years did fine building the right kind of living structures. Ever wonder why you are never told to turn off the power to cool down the planet? Ever wonder why US News never educates the public on how to stay cool without the power on?
There are even signs at the trail heads yet people make the bad decision hike the trails!

@@duncanbauer1618 That is absolutely not true. There is absolutely no excuse for what happened with this child or any other child who has been allowed access to guns that should not have happened. I have several relatives with gun collections and none of their children have ever had unsupervised access to any weapon and those relatives all have conceal carry permits and in fact keep themselves armed at all times. Yes there are resourceful children. I was one once. But I was in my thirties when I learned that Mom kept a gun in the house and had since I was a baby. And she had it accessible for her own defense at all times but kept it out of mine and my siblings hands throughout our childhood. And as for my resourcefulness, I and my siblings had full knowledge of every Christmas present from age 9 onward and had unwrapping and rewrapping down to a science and to the point that we were actually secretly playing with some of our toys weeks before Christmas. But we NEVER even knew Mom had a S&W. And Mom had a reputation for not being able to keep a secret. I only found out when she asked for a ride to the shooting range after her car broke down and she wanted her monthly practice session. Also, after Dad died and all us kids became adults, Mom joined an order of nuns, kept the gun to the end though. If SHE could do it ANYONE could do it.

After over-hearing rude comments by the staff monitoring self-check-out I do all I can to avoid stores that don't offer "checkers". I have never had a positive experience doing it myself, ever.

Self checkouts were not designed to speed up checkouts. They were designed to eliminate employee cost and and force people to do the job of the employee

...at the safeway I go to only couple staffed checkout stations would be open and queues would go halfway somn if not further on the aisles. The store had one "express lane" that was never open.
In Finland people DO NOT STEAL. So nobody controls check out machines and it goes very fast. We also weigh our fruits and vegetables ourselves. In France thou they have check out machines where u have to scan an item and then place it on the other side on the table which checks that it is there. And u can not put one item on top of another, all should touch the table’s surface. Thus u can not just pretend to scan the product - if item is added on the table without scanning it will not continue or if u place one item on top of another it will stop until u do correctly. If u have a coupon then stuff should enter it in the scanner. Kinda little bit fussy and not good if u have a lot of products - they do not fit on the check out table

I hate those self check out machines. I don't go the the grocery store to work, I go there to spend money. Besides you always need someone to come over to check your ID if you are buying wine. Just bring back the employees to do the work. They need the job that self checkout took away from them.

Self checkout is an indignity no handicapped person and/or senior citizen should have to endure. All major supermarkets should be required to have a dedicated checkout person just for seniors. And, as high as food prices are, the savings realized from having no human checkouts should be passed on to the customer!

There are no self checkouts in my town and no one stops shopping in those stores. They could easily go to a neighboring town 6 minutes away for self checkout but they don't. The people from next door come here to shop. And no plastic bags either. We bring our own reusable bags everywhere.

I grew up in the 60's hunting on our 164 acres, took gun safety in boy scouts, and was a sniper in Vietnam during the war. I lived in Michigan back then. My father had several weapons as did I as we hunted all the time. My Dad had the guns in a gun cabinet that was locked. He also had trigger locks on two pistols. After 9 years US Army I left and move to Australia, where they outlawed guns, except where some professions needed one, like farmers and game hunters.

Re. the election, I can't speak for other Americans but I would be willing to bet that a whole lot of us are very tired of the two party system, tired of electoral votes, tired of being told we have to vote for this person or that.
