Food pantries in rural areas are not what they are in big cities. I work at one as a volunteer. We give out two plastic food bags of food per month for two people and three for a family of four. I hope you don't count on those if you live in areas that are not close to big cities. The food pantry I volunteer at only opens one day per month for an hour and a half in the evening. It's only cans and most of them are stuff like cranberries or sweet potatoes. It's heartbreaking to see the disappointment in the faces of people.
I worked at a retreat center in a really small rural area. We cooked three huge meals a day for about 200 people. We saved all of the food that got made but never served, froze it, and gave it to the food pantry at the end of each week. The people who depended on the food pantry told us that they loved the food we cooked. It made up for any complaints we got from the people who came for the retreats.
