I’ve been saying for years that Black Sabbath wrote all the cool riffs before the 70s were over. Every metal song you hear now is just a reworking of what Sabbath did.

You must not be a musician and tried to write a riff that couldn’t in some way or another been done on a Sabbath album. My point, and I’m sure lost in Vegas point, is that they did this when no one else did and well before anyone else. Which can be frustrating because you can’t escape the feeling “this has been done before”.

Sabotage is the most underrated of Sabbath's "classic six" and imo one of the best (if not the best depending on the day and mood).

I love how, over time, you two have listened to enough metal music to be able to form opinion based on knowledge that you have gained from listening to, and learning about various types of metal. That being said, you two need to stop thinking that we, as metal heads, think your opinions have less validity than any of us life long metal heads. It seems at time as if you are only one step removed from apologizing for your opinions. Most of us are here because we liked to hear an outside view of the music we grew up with. Now we are here to listen to the valid opinions of fellow knowledgeable metal fans. You have more than earned the right to your opinions regaurdless if other metal heads agree with you. Sabbath is my all time favorite band and I really feel like you guys treated them with the respect and love that they deserve :)

I am from Brazil and not very old (33 years old). I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to watch Black Sabbath live two times, even if they weren't in their best shape (Bill Ward not present). I cried the first time I listened to "Black Sabbath" live. True legends that my father taught me to enjoy since I was a little kid.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath has the meanest riff of all Black Sabbath.
One last one, since you haven't touched the album yet.
In my opinion they should react to that song and maybe something off "13," as well.

I haven’t seen a reaction to ‘Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath’ and, I believe George just said you haven’t done it. That is the epitome of a Sabbath song - the main riff, the drums, the bass and Ozzy! One of the best metal songs ever and such heaviness at the end! Don’t stop short of at least that one!

This is what I’ve been saying
Something about the jazzy breakdown at the end: I'd say that was Tony Iommi's tribute to one of his guitar heroes, Django Reinhardt. Django was a Belgian jazz guitarist from the 1930s. He is known as the originator of "gypsy jazz."
It was hearing Django that influenced Tony to pick up the guitar again after the accident that severed Tony's fingers. Django also only had two fingers to play with (due to a burn injury).
Years ago, I was listening to a jazz station late at night, and heard a guitarist that reminded me of Tony. After the song finished, the DJ said it was Django. He definitely had a HUGE influence on him.
I love that ending, almost as much as the beginning.
@@richardjohndrow4623 django was an influence on every guitar player of that generation, especially the ones from europe. a lot of djangos stuff is very groovy and riff oriented (minor swing for example). i love them both :)
I've seen a couple of film clips of Django. Amazing. You could always hear a jazz influence in Sabbath. Especially the guitar and drums.
Ok but that closing jam nothing to do with Jazz. I don't know why people keep throwing that word at anything that sounds mildly exotic to their ears. It's acoustic Rock with perhaps a hint of Flamenco.
Ozzy’s voice in this song is exactly how it should be. It’s kind of a raw “thrashy” type song.
This song basically invented Thrash metal... all the guys in Metallica were HUGE Sabbath fans. This was their inspiration for a lot of their sound.

Besides John Bonham from Zeppelin Bill Ward was my idol as a drummer growing up! His style was so funky and unique to me... So underrated!

"Sabbath bloody sabbath" is a brilliant album. has some of my favourite songs of all music, "sabbath bloody sabbath" and "fluff" give a good glimpse of the rest of the album. You might be totally surprised of the versatility on that album if you listen to it. "paranoid", "sabbath bloody sabbath", "black sabbath", "sabotage" would be my fauvourite black sabbath albums. in that order, with the same 4 members.

Couldn't agree more that Priest should be next. They had so much influence in early metal and so many good songs to choose from... most with amazing solos.

As great as Black Sabbath is, I really feel they are extremely underrated when it comes to music overall. IMO I feel they should be mentioned in the same conversation with LED zeppelin and the Beatles.

Yes, The Writ is an underrated song! I love the way both the music & the lyrics start with such vitriol & anger, then evolves to end up in a peaceful and upbeat place. It is just the catharsis the band needed at the time, and I always feel unburdened when I get to the end of it.
I love that song along with the thrill of it all. You can feel his voice, and the lyrics in your bones. The Writ was meant to be the centerpiece of the album.

Ozzy’s live version of “symptoms of the universe “ is off the charts
I love Ozzy's version of this off his live solo album "Speak of the Devil". It was released around the same time that Sabbath released their live album "Live Evil". Both awesome concert double albums from the early 80s.
I'd love to see either a stoner rock/doom/sludge marathon or a marathon of bands that arent super well known there is a huge amount of lesser known bands that absolutely kill it, but just never achieved the recognition they deserved.

That whole record is. Hole in the sky, Megalomania, The Writ. They drained themselves creatively with that one. Nowhere else to go from there, at least the original 4.
Headphones, try them on the early albums, Tony's over there and Geezer's over there. The mix is super bad-ass. Love when I know what's coming and laugh out loud when you dig what they hit us with. Tony still has more riffs. The other metal bands can't use that excuse. He's just a Bad Mfer.

I know not everyone agrees and I understand (Sabbath's first 6 albums are simply INSANE, so good that you spend a lifetime deciding which one is the best), but for me it's the best, top 3 along with Paranoid and Vol 4, and without a doubt my favorite. Ahead of time, no bad track FROM START TO END. Black Sabbath are the greatest.

Maybe less now? They have opened up to digital streaming quite a bit now. Just the other week they put most of their albums up on TH-cam themselves.
I'm gonna say again, Zeppelin would be a great classic marathon, Queens of the Stone Age would be a great groove/stoner (they call themselves desert rock, I believe. Appropriate for some Vegas cats) marathon, and another great current band that's a personal favorite with a WIDE variety of styles would be Incubus. Also, ya'll still NEED to scope The Marcus King Band. "Plant Your Corn Early" and "The Devil's Land"

I don't think they'd like it. I was the world's biggest Deep Purple fan in my teens, and I don't like it.......
I've gone off most of their "classic" stuff (apart from In Rock, which stands alone). Viewed objectively, they had a lot of weaknesses. If these guys do review DP, I think they should do either Burn, Stormbringer, Speed King or maybe Flight of the Rat. Possibly Perfect Strangers at a push.
