I’m 56 and still rock these guys all the time. Fire Down Under, Restless Breed, and Born In America are three criminally underrated releases in hard rock/ metal.
I have the Born in America cassette. Oh how I wish I could see a live video recording of them playing Gunfighter, a perfectly composed metal song if I ever heard one.
Rhett and I sat next to each other in chorus and hung out not knowing he would be a certified rock star. We're having our 50th HS reunion soon and will memorialize Rhett and our other deceased classmates. We will remember you forever...
I was 15 when I discovered this band and this title. 56 today and I'm still enjoying this time of RIOT. A great stage band unfortunately unknown. RIP Rhett Forester
We have a college station here in Cleveland WJCU that had a show called Kick Out The Jams on Saturday mornings in the early 80s. Mitch would play Riot and I've been hooked ever since.
Love it.. When i was younger i was a Roadie and light man for a local hard rock group in Wisconsin. Roit was looking for a place to play to cover there hotel bill. Dio cancelled cause of bad weather. Wow. They asked who was playing that weekend. we were playing at a local bar called the Rockin Ridge Point. They used all our equipment that nite. FUCKING AMAZING. i never knew our equipment could sound so good. Or be that loud. Rip......
I saw them in '82 at Alpine Valley with a couple friends and my friends only knew UFO and Rainbow but afterwards told me that Riot stole the show. I had been telling them about Riot since Fire Down Under came out. They had to find out for themselves.
One of metal's most underrated bands. I discovered them with Fire down Under, still one of my favorite albums with Restless Breed. I was fortunate enough to see both Guy Speranza and Rhett Butler on vocals.
Mark Reale was a criminally under appreciated guitarist. More technically precise and less sloppy than alot of the famous guitarists heralded in the decade.
For those of you that say Riot should have been bigger, well I agree 100 percent. But they got screwed over by their record label because they wanted to convert Riot into a fucking glam band and Riot said no. So they got canned. It just shows you how the music industry is. Every couple of years they change the music style around or start a new trend. That's to lure in younger people to buy music. They are the ones that are going to be trendy and that age group buys all the music. It's been that way for a long time. RIP Mark Reale, Rhett Forrester, And Guy Speranza (original vocalist)
Was lucky enough to see Riot twice 79,80 .Since Victoria, TX. is between Houston and Corpus Christi. Also got see Legs Diamond, Y&T twice. Rock City one of the best rock albums of 77'.
Riot was one of the early bands that led to me being a Metalhead. Fire Down Under and Restless Breed had two different frontmen, Guy Sperranza on Fire Down Under and Rhett Forrester on Restless Breed, and both albums were back to back home runs
I loved Rhett's vocal style with Riot, "Restless Breed" and "Born in America" played weekly on vinyl at my house at some seriously high volume. Of course Rhett and Mark were taken from us all way to soon. Shine on. \m/
I was a Riot junkie. I lived in Morristown, NJ. in the 70's & 80's Followed these guys when ever they were in NYC area. I remember one jam (Headbanger's Ball) in Staten Island somewhere in maybe 83'-84' Insane show (forget the venue) Girls were taking their tops off, it was complete mayhem! Rhett was a great addition, but let us not forget Guy Speranza (RIP) He was a major factor in the bands success. Mark (RIP again) We loved you my friend!
Monmouth county here, first time I saw them, they opened for Rush, I thought to myself the drummer reminded me of my playing, then my friend asks me, " Does the drummer reminds you of anyone?" I ask who, he says YOU DUMBASS. We would always make it a point to go see them whenever they played NJ/NYC

So long ago but beside Sabbath,Purple, Priest and Motörhead they were the most important band in my teens.
I saw riot at lamours!!! Fukkn great show!! Restless breed!!! Best song!!!! Newyork boys!!!❤🇺🇲🇬🇧🇩🇪💪😎they are all still alive in my mind!!! Their music will never die!!! Best newyork band!!!RIP❤🙏💫
I am impressed how great they were. Really. This was a Band that didn't get what they deserve. The vocals here are 100% Paul Rodgers style. This Song is Amazing. Riot always emotional to me. Goosebumps.
Someone is saying Rhett's bruesy voice doesn't fit RIOT sound. But I don't think so, Rhett only fits this great song! Anyway, feel very sad that we have missed both Mark and Rhett. Old RIOT forever...
Mark was one my closest and dearest friends. I loved jamming with him on stage but in a different band when he wasn’t playing with Riot. The man could certainly play mad guitar, but his personality was outstanding. when I called him in 2012, I had just missed his passing and was beyond heartbroken to lose such a fabulous talent and wonderful soul. Godspeed Mark and thank you for being in my life.💙✝️
I was so diappointed when that album came out, having expected something completely different after "Fire Down Under".... Now, more than 40 years later, I LOVE the album and the title-track is a pure classic of powerful and soulful Hard Rock!
Got this on Vinyl and have had all their early stuff 36+ yrs. Never gets old still fresh and Rockin' all these years later. R.I.P Mark,Guy, Rhett Thanks for all the years of Great Music.
daryl hodkinson These songs nearly make me wanna cry with every listen. They are metal monuments to me and over 35 years later they still shine on! Rhett Forrester and Mark Reale were such a big deal! Two of the biggest losses for metal pretty sure
Key words being "early records"...the speed metal sound they have had since late 80s and 90s with bassist Don Van and the long string of newer singers...not so much.
Lou Covaris left physically yesterday 28-3-2020 went to find Mark Reale and Guy Speranza are together now detoo altons sounds! Icons, legends! Be at peace with God!
Man I'm just realizing I had at least three cassettes from Riot when I was a kid. Still holds up pretty well. I mean, I recognize the obvious comparisons, and I think I can probably hear half of UFO's songs in Riot's songs, but they were a quality band.

All those classic Riot albums should be so much up there! Both with Guy and Rhett. Fantastic albums!
Such a great band that had so much to constantly overcome. Their music was one of the best. This song has a lot of the feeling or Free/aka Bad Company in it. Its shocking they didnt crack the top 10 with it back in the day. I loved Guy's vocals. Rhett was like a shock when i first got this album he was nothing like Guy vocally, but it had a raw sound that worked really well for them.
I hate it when people try to compare Guy and Rhett. It's like comparing apples and oranges, they were both great vocalists in their own right. I may prefer the first three albums with Guy handling vocal duties, but Restless Breed and Born in America are still on regular rotation at my house
Riot basically got fucked over by their record label because they wanted to stay true to their roots. But their label wanted to convert them into a fucking glam band and Riot said no. So they got canned and had to continue on smaller independent labels
First song I heard from Riot. It was on a radio, I recorded it and I didn't know the name of the band. 10 years later I discovered Riot. I love this song but it is different from the other songs in the band. Perfect heavy metal.
I was a young metal dude growing up in Montana, and I recognized Riot as being right up there if not better than any of the nwobhm bands. Thanks somebodies God that Twisted Sister attained some popularity, but this band should have been there right beside them.
Spectacular performance! I've been into Riot for about two years now and I am really surprised at the talent of band. They had awesome straight forward hard rock. I also love the rhythm section with Kip Leming and the great Sandy Slavin. Sandy has incredible feel and a distinctive sound when he plays the drums. He is my favorite Riot drummer. His performance in this video was just pure godly. God Bless Riot!
Ryan McNeila Cant agree more! They‘re a really big deal... Still listen to their old stuff from „Born in America“ and „Restless Breed“... Outstanding classic metal

40 years I've been cranking this f**ker, I still have the original vinyl and always blast it as loud as my stereo will go

John Vincent Awesome story...makes me miss those days👍🤘
When I was young,
Rhett was a really nice guy . Hung out with him & his girlfriend quite a few times in the 80s at LaMours & in Brooklyn. Miss him a lot ✌️❤️
I saw them in '82 at Alpine Valley with a couple friends and my friends only knew UFO and Rainbow but afterwards told me that Riot stole the show. I had been telling them about Riot since Fire Down Under came out. They had to find out for themselves.

absolutely. this is a criminally underrated band.
poison, warrant...good god.
His Name was Rhett Forrester
Rhett Forester was amazing. RIP.
You’re gawddamm right.
He sure was..
Yup
He was way far better than many frontmen back then , rip dude Stay Metal 🤘🤘
Mark Reale was a criminally under appreciated guitarist. More technically precise and less sloppy than alot of the famous guitarists heralded in the decade.
He got to show his stuff on the 1989 album privilege of power. Awesome s*** especially when he covered Al damiola's racing with the devil...
Couldn't agree more!!!
I'm still selling Riot there so badass love them then love them now

And now also Lou A Kouvaris (original guitarist). RIP fallen heroes
Yes best ever! Not new Riot that’s not Riot!!! That’s like Adam Lambert singing Queen songs just doesn’t work! Anyway Restless Breed was a great album

What an absolutely stunning singer Rhett was. Live even more than on record.
I agree, and he also had a great stage presence.
Riot was one of the early bands that led to me being a Metalhead. Fire Down Under and Restless Breed had two different frontmen, Guy Sperranza on Fire Down Under and Rhett Forrester on Restless Breed, and both albums were back to back home runs
A highly underated band they should have been way bigger.
Preach it brother
RIOT KICKS ASSS TURTSHELL!!!
@@jb-yi4dithey would have been had Guy not walked away.
@@robertbishop5357 that's true
I saw them open for Rainbow and Scorpions in 82 in New Haven and in 1981 for Rush in Hartford. A very underrated band that has its share of misfortune
RIOT was an underappreciated band. One of the Godfathers of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal
Wish they would play that awesome song nowadays. As well as some stuff of Born in America. \,,/ What an awesome band! Ever was and ever will be!
What a Masterpiece.. Rhett's Voice.. Ohh My Lord..
Yep...Rhett was a bad ass. RIP Mr. Forrester
crazy good voice
I still listen to RIOT Almost Daily on Pandora n Spotify after 40 years!! ONE OF THE BEST!
Turtshelll 🐢 says RIP RHETT!!!
Saw this tour at the Original Cleveland Agora and borrowed my brothers ID to get in. RIP MARK. RHETT AND GUY. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!
Fucking best live vocalist ever!
Saw Riot on the Monters of Rock in 88. Pretty fucking good.
Best band to come out of NYC when everything else in America was coming out of LA!
I loved Rhett's vocal style with Riot, "Restless Breed" and "Born in America" played weekly on vinyl at my house at some seriously high volume. Of course Rhett and Mark were taken from us all way to soon. Shine on. \m/
Guy Speranza (the original vocalist) is gone too.

Great band!! I'm 59 and still listen to them. Along with all the other great metal bands of the 80's! Man I miss the 80's. Greatest decade for music!
Rhett had IT in spades. Such a charismatic MF, with a incredibly unique voice.

This Song is Amazing.
Riot always emotional to me.
Goosebumps.
The lyrics even mention 'Wishing Well'.
Awesome lyrics I agree. I was thinking Robert Plant based on appearance but yes, you can hear Paul Rodgers in the delivery
I worked with Rhett in a band we were forming in Texas. He was indeed a fan of Paul Rodgers.
@@artmv1149 was that with Jonathan grell? those 4 demos were great too .. yes he was a fan of paul and he loved the stones

The sound of old-school metal. As hard rock was meant to be. Mark Reale, underrated and unappreciated. Rock on Mark. amen
That is called the Marshall Crunch. The old JCM45s drove the power pentode tubes saturating the output transformer. Classic sound.
Someone is saying Rhett's bruesy voice doesn't fit RIOT sound. But I don't think so, Rhett only fits this great song!
Anyway, feel very sad that we have missed both Mark and Rhett. Old RIOT forever...
This is the 80’s metal band poster child!! They kick some serious F’in ARSE!!!
Great band and tune. Leads were always so tasteful.
Yessir...in remembrance of 8th grade with my pal Rene here in SA

I’m 18 and i’ve been listening to this band since 2017 and this band deserves to be way bigger
Unfortunately many great 80s bands got overlooked.
Underrated band, at least here in Europe
Riot is even more underrated here in the U.S. I’ve never heard their music on the radio. Not one single time.
Definitely awesome song
I saw these guys a couple of times in the 80's. Awesome band.
