I’m watching through the entire serious for the vw bc I intend to build one to go with a Hummel as well. Just wanted to say love the machine work. Don’t be sorry for adding it. Makes the video much more complete to see. Used to run a laser cutter at a machine shop, I wish I had learned the lathe! Only run one once and was terrible at it.
You could since the front oil holes had press in plugs originally. The main reason for the screw in plugs is there is no way they can just pop out and they are easy to remove if you need to clean in the future. I thought the big plug I built for the top just looked better than a freeze plug too.

Once I bought the lathe I wasn't sure how I got along without it. I got to use the CNC plasma table at work today and that was fun.
