I know this is super old and I don’t know if you’ll even see this but these videos are so cool. Great amount of time, and extremely informative. Very well done
I just started playing Skyrim on pc and new to the whole mod world... makes me wonder why i even played the game on 360.... I LOVE THE PC!!!! been following your tutorials and its giving me some great ideas for a quest. Thanks for the all the tutorials!!
8:55 Just a heads up, the caves were not designed that way. Caves are slightly different because they have no side or front walls. That particular cave has 4 separate corners and 4 separate side walls. They are numbered accordingly, 1, 2, 3, 4. You need to place the pieces making sure they fit with the middle sections. Once you do, it will all fit perfectly. Not 100% if all caves work this way, I'm still learning myself. I would imagine they do though. Hope this helps. Great tutorials, by the way.
Sometimes I've found that replacing middle parts and/or rotating them gets rid of the seams, plus it adds a bit of ground variety, but nothing like covering them up with rocks, cliffs, pillars, etc. Nice tip.
I've already commented on one of your other videos, but thank you AGAIN! I've been wanting to bring Border Watch from Oblivion into Skyrim for ages, but haven't been able to think how. NOW it just makes sense to stick the small village in a cave system :)
XerxiesLv426 THANK YOU FOR THIS TIP! :D I'm coming from the Source engine, duplication and rotation of halves is how I would quickly build symmetrical TF2 maps. It's nice to know Creation Kit lets me do, well, the same.
Don't know if this has been said..but regarding seams in floor/ ceilings, the cave kits are directional just as ruins/ house kits are. If you use the correct walls and corners you won't get any seams. Naturally caves are very organic so it's not a big issue either way. Just duplicating and rotating walls is how you end up with seams.
Thanks. I was having trouble with a cave yesterday. to the point where I scrapepd the whole thing. Nowwith is, I'm going to go back and add a proper cave.
The way I check for seams and gaps is to turn off shadeless mode with 'A' and look for the very visible white holes. Although for gaps within an interior I gotta be a bit more meticulous
Nice work mate, I am whats commonly called a complete Muppet when it comes to figuring this stuff out, your Videos have got me well hooked now on building a dungeon. (an getting completely out of control) lol....I didn't realize till the cave video I watched today that I even needed roofs hehe, but I did figure out how to add light to my torches etc, purely by accident so that's something at least.
@ReinThe First you select WorldObjects in the Object Window, than you select Static, and than you click on Mapmarker. You drag it to the Render Window and move to where ever you want it. Double-click it in the Render Window and click on the extra tab. Change the settings to what ever you like.
If your world is called 'Somethingworld01' and you named it 'Pirates Cove', then you just start op skyrim and press ~ for console-acces. Then type coc Somethingworld01 and that will take you straight to the Pirates Cove as a standard lvl1 character and you can run around freely. You can add the dungeon to the world of skyrim later. Just check out Bethesda's tutorials (they are all on youtube and they are very helpful).
this is probably too late to be any use of you, but your comment is a top comment, so this is for people who have the same question if you set filter to 'door' you will get some at the top that say 'autoloaddoor' which will appear in your dungeon as a green circle with a red circle inside. the gree circle shows the are where you'll be shown the cave's name, and the red area transports you to the cave. then you set it up like a normal door, with the teleport and exitpoint and all that.
Fantastic videos my cave indeed is looking pretty! sorry if you've answered this question already but i covered up the gaps in the flooring using dirt mounds and rocks ect but one problem i noticed is when you plop down a mid floor peace it gets placed down automatically with a ceiling mirroring the floor, which means it too has the same tears and gaps. How did you fix this?
@ForAdventure It's not a bug, the views stop at around 300 because youtube is checking if the views are unique or not. Before, people could download programmes that woudl constantly refresh for hours giving them thousands of views. Just a random fact. =P
yah. different cave walls fit to different cave corners and stuff. however, his way could make a more unique cave. but place a cavewalllarge or whatever they are called have designations at the end (01, 02, etc) 01 fits to 01 on one side an 02 on another. 02 fits to 02 on one side and 03 on another. 03 fits to 03 on one side and 04 on another 04 fits to 04 on one side and 01 on another. they go 1, 2, 3, 4 as you go around the room. Bethesda's tutorial covers this.
your tutorials are great and i dont even have the pc version of Skyrim beacause my computer would die trying to run it but im going to get it as soon as I get a new computer.
Suggestion for anyone: If you want to be able to see more when checking your environments. I recommend increasing your field of view, via the console, to 100. The console command is: "fov 100" without the quotation marks.
@iaMyla If you check the Bethesda Creation Kit website with all the tutorials, they tell you how to add a COC. There's also a video on youtube that shows you how to add your house/dungeon to the world, along with adding map markers so you can discover and Fast Travel to the location, as well as how to slip in load doors and COC locations so that you can gain entry to your new place from Skyrim :) Hope this helped :D
Hey dude thanks for all the help. Are you eventually going to get to outside/landscaping? And you explain how to get the gizmo movements to be shorter/more precise? When rotating sarcophagus lids and the like the have a tendency to sit awkwardly.
@ForAdventure Hey, I have made a little first time dungeon and I have been trying to find out how to set the player spawn point, so when you enter the dungeon, you'll spawn at the start. Can you tell me how or will it be in another video? Btw, great vids mate! Very Helpful!
Thank you for previous help. Have u tried use cave secret doors? Because I have tried but when I go into game I cant open that door. Do I need to set some kind of switch somewhere? If you are going to make doors in further videos it would be great if u use secret door or if u can just tell how to get that door open :) Btw very nice videos!
You're really doing it wrong. Caves like ruins have that weird "rule" about placing shell blocks - you want to use different corners for each corner (01, 02, 03, 04 for each corner, don't use the same one, you will get those seams!), and same goes for walls - you can't just duplicate them and rotate. If you do it properly - there will be absolutely no seams on the "ceiling" and floor.
@ForAdventure tbh you should focus on things that the wiki doesn't have tutorials for, as Bethesda is covering the wiki tutorials in videos. More topics early on would be more beneficial to all than multiple vids on the same subject :D
Great tutorial mate, will use it when I get around to modding. Just a question and anyone can answer it, do these dungeons and caves make their way into Skyrim. For instance, I want to make a city or town and what it placed outside of whiterun, is this possible.? I know it will take time will making individual characters and quests but I plan on doing it. Cheers
The Gaps int he cave floor are not how its supposed to be, you will have wall1, wall 2, wall 3 and wall 4 each are for the direction they are placed. Cave walls that are under the category hall/room you should not be rotating them, if the wall is facing east, its an east facing wall. The floor tile you place without rotation and 1 should be the north wall, 2 will be another side and so on, the corners there are 2 corners, corner 1 fits on top left and corner 2 fits top right and the same corners are used for the bottom left and right corners two, can't remember if they are inverted or not but doing this will leave no seam gaps what so ever with the cave building system. Caves are more crazy in design so yeah you really should be stepping out the box with the designs but if you have a 3x3 square cave room, and forced to cover loads of seams is bad practice. The floor debris meshes are supposed to be used to create unique clutter or shapes and shouldn't be used just to hide mistakes. Unless you are going well out of the basic cave shape design and need these to cover gaps when building advanced caves. But the basic cave system you made you wouldn't HAVE to use them, its just extra meshes for your system to load.
Some of the caves of Skyrim have those really beautiful skylights with the sun beaming down, or starlight or whatever. Is that a specific "mid" piece or how is that accomplished? Is there a specific tutorial?
the reason there are seams is because you have to use caveglroomwall01(02/03/04) you cant just rotate them because each one is made specifically for each side
Quick question mate, can you by any chance show us how to make items usable in game ? I added a bedroll to my dungeon entrance room, an it doesn't even highlight when I get near it.
i'm trying to make a cave home and having a lot of problems. was going to make a vampire type home but can't get it to go behave. is it possible to load up an existing cave like Mara's Eye Pond and just wipe out all the stuff inside and just put in other things or is what's in there, in there for good?
I want to blend a small nordic door frame into a small hallway cave system. I am having a hard time doing it because of the placement area. The cave hallway is to small and there is a unnatural mesh placement and it is missing alot of spots. There are uneven blends to. Could ya help?
Holy christ, why didn't you tell me about that setting active file thing earlier?! Iv'e spent nearly TWO FREAKING HOURS trying to remake my entire dungeon because I couldn't save it over, and when I tried a new file, it completely separated out half the dungeon. D: D: D:
I like to use cave systems because I like to make things different, but I like to use nordic dungeons, because I like order. Are these not conflicting ideas?
@ForAdventure Hey,How do I put NPCs inside my Dungeon or how do I bring my follower inside the dungeon with me?I`ve already made the whole dungeon and I made the doors which teleport me from a Shack to a dungeon, but when I try to place a NPC inside a Dungeon, nothing happens and when I try to bring my follower inside he disapears. Thanks.
Whenever I put a wall piece of any kind next to another, it won't fit well at all, it will leave a gap. Is there any way to fix this other than going into extreme detail not using the "snap to grid"? Please help me!!
Can someone please tell me how to get the load doors to work on dungeons? I can't figure this out.. There is a yellow thing outside of the exterior, when I click on it, it takes me to my dungeon in creation mode, but the dungeon doesn't have the yellow thing on it. In creation mode it does link back to the entrance from the exerior, but in the game I click the exterior entrance and I end up in an all black dungeon with no walls, etc.. Cant see a thing.
PLS HELP ME!! im trying to retexture the ebony dagger but when i drag the file (ebonydagger.ndds) into photoshop cs5 it says that it is the wrong type of file. i have no idea what to do, pls help
Does anyone know if the creation kit will work when I install it when I have mods installed in Skyrim? is the creation kit that separate of a program so that it will work well even if I have mods in skyrim? If someone knows please tell me, because I don't want to install it if it fucks up all my mods.
Not at all how to make caves in Skyrim CK but whatever lol, using snap to grid makes it so much easier and most of the caves DO match up if you're using the right ones. You don't have to deal with seems and gaps. I say don't make a tutorial if you don't really know what you're doing. Other than that you did a great job on dungeon making.

i was like 10 months ago, completely new to skyrim for PC, immediately jumping into modding my game and making mods myself :p
pc master race can't argue with that

I like that this is not just a building instructions but an artistic tutorial as well :)
Just subscribed. I think your presentation is very nice and you are going at the right speed for us newbies to understand.
Keep up the good work

A slightly quicker way to build rooms is to hold CTRL and click on multiple objects/items then duplicate and rotate them.
XerxiesLv426 THANK YOU FOR THIS TIP! :D I'm coming from the Source engine, duplication and rotation of halves is how I would quickly build symmetrical TF2 maps. It's nice to know Creation Kit lets me do, well, the same.

These tutorials are fantastic! Keep up the great work man!
Look in the "Door" tab of the creation kit for Auto Load door. For the rock static go to any exterior cave cell and copy the rock static there.

can you do a house tutorial, i can't seem to make it go together properly
The cave system have 4 different walls, which needs to be placed on the rignt sides of the mid piece. If you do it right there won't be any gaps.
Thank you for doing this
where are the cave exits, the tunnels with light at the end that are the "doors" to outside
Thank you for previous help. Have u tried use cave secret doors? Because I have tried but when I go into game I cant open that door. Do I need to set some kind of switch somewhere? Thank you so much for doing this! You are the best.

nice video, sir. I like your Tutorials
You my friend, are my hero.
Just a suggestion when making caves there are different pieces of the same type which is used to stop seams
Your videos are very helpful thanks!
Thanks for the information man

Reply please :p

weird, i was the 301st viewer for yours and bethesdas tutorial. i just came from bethesdas navmeshing guide
the reason there are seams is because you have to use caveglroomwall01(02/03/04) you cant just rotate them because each one is made specifically for each side
same as placing a door. just look for a cave entrance and then link it in the same way you do any other door.
Quick question mate, can you by any chance show us how to make items usable in game ? I added a bedroll to my dungeon entrance room, an it doesn't even highlight when I get near it.
18:44 The.. er, what? lol
Great tutorial, helped me out heaps.
Can you tell me what your preferences in the creation kit are or take a screen shot of them so i can move more freely?
It's a completely separate program and you can load the data from your mods or not.
@Matt Bradley are you fuckin kiddin me?! This video is about caves!!!
Can you please tell us how to make a cave entrance from the outside? I want to out an exit at the end of my dungeon like some dungeons in the game.
Type in on youtube 'Creation Kit Episode 10' And that gives you a hole video tutorial. :)
Vary nice and helpful video's keep them up! :D
i'm trying to make a cave home and having a lot of problems. was going to make a vampire type home but can't get it to go behave. is it possible to load up an existing cave like Mara's Eye Pond and just wipe out all the stuff inside and just put in other things or is what's in there, in there for good?

I feel your pain v_v" . . .
Gurian GueriIIa Can you please tell me how to put items in a chest once i have placed it in CK
Two hours making the best dungeon I could... Now I have to start over from scratch! >: [
@tjman9999
Did you download and install the Photoshop DDS plugin for your version of Photoshop? Just Google Photoshop + DDS plugin.
aaaaaand.... lived in.
If you hit Ctril F you can swap items
You do know that you can make seamless cave right you just need to use the different numbered pieces or are you just saving that for a later video?
your spawn marker thin is in the wrong place. make sure its unhidden and then place it on the floor.
I like to use cave systems because I like to make things different, but I like to use nordic dungeons, because I like order. Are these not conflicting ideas?

place an AutoLoadDoor somewhere and link it to another AutoLoadDoor or regular door
What happens when some distant sections are invisible until you approach them? I've been having this issue where distant areas seem to be non-existent and you can see outside the cell until you actually walk to where the location should be, and it miraculously reappears. Has anyone else had this issue?
General Draxeo all you need to do is tick render distant buildings, also watch my Morrowind, and Oblivion videos at Claytonamor Videos!
what was that ever so slight sound between 6:01 and 6:02 (sounds like a burp) :D
How do I add a body (dead man) with a loot in it?
I've been trying to make a cave for a while but for some reason when I go into it In-Game... The farther parts of it just show the grey of the outer bits of the cell and I don't want that... Any tips on fixing it?
Take a hammer and break that shit
I want to make custom textures how do I do that?

@Troublesome2008 Thanks tanks tanks. This really helped !
link to your pre made sungeon does not work can u fix??
Have you yet covered how to actually access your dungeon in-game? I don't recall anything up to this point about setting a location. Are you just coc-ing for now?
nvm figured it out
hey if you want to know how you can fix the holes in the floor and celing watch Bethesda's creation kit part three. (like so he sees)
Nevermind.
How do i add enemies to my dungeon?
