- On September 24, 1988, Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo became the first western woman to be both recognized as a "tulku" or reincarnate Lama, and enthroned as a Lineage Holder. His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, along with Ven. Gyatrul Rinpoche, Chojji Rinpoche, and Lama Jampa Rinpoche, were present for the ceremony. It took place during the three month Rinchen Terdzod Empowerments, occuring for the first time in the west. The event was also attended by various national and international media.

I find that working full time as a night security guard where I have to do very little in terms of work has been excellent for having the leisure to practice my pujas and practice of meditation, and to read Dharma books on company time. Those who are torn between their jobs and practice should strongly consider working as a security guard and fulfilling one's practice.
The Enthronement of Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo was a remarkable event. HH Penor Rinpoche's decision to recognize Jetsunma in such a way was neither casual nor political. It was to nourish and help stabilize the BuddhaDharma in the West -- a tremendous gift to American practitioners, to women in general, to all who seek a true spiritual Path. He brought the Door to Enlightenment into the very fabric of our lives, in English, and She is Jetsunma, the second Ahkon Lhamo.
Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo is an extraordinary Teacher. She has dedicated her life to benefit beings and her compassion towards sentient beings is sometimes, beyond human compreehension. Her teachings speaks for itself. I am very greatfull to be her student.
It's the greatest deal in life time to be enlightened and be a part of Buddhist.
Such a rare and precious occasion. Many have and will benefit from Her enlightened activity.

I do believe women is a symbol of compassion.Only compassionate practitioner is recognised as Jetsunma, such a compassionate soul can be of any country,colour and race.HH has found a compassionate Jetsunma in maryland,that means Maryland is pure land of Jetsunma to have a compassionate soul in its land.May all sentient beings be blessed by HH and Jetsunma.My sincere greetings to HH and Jetsunma.
Jetsunma's enthronement was a day for immense celebration. Truly miraculous… a Buddha born in America and not recognized till middle age although she had been bringing benefit as long as she's lived. Her vow to relieve suffering is as powerful as it is unwavering! May her life be long and her health strong!
HH Penor was great. But after Jetsumna and Seagal and the problems there, he said he'd never "recognize" anyone else ever again as result.
Jetsunma is very much fortunate to get bless by His Holiness Pema Norbu Rinpoche, truly enlightened reincarnation VIMLAMITRA. Namo to my Great Guru...

@christine99zc I don't know much about Jetsunma but i think your response is rather harsh and closed minded. HH Penor Rinpoche was an incredible master whose benefit to practitioners is so vast and continues to be after his passing.
i think alot of westerners have alot of self doubt that extends to the idea that an american can be a developed practitioner and teacher. I hope we can evolve past this so that genuine dharma can spread in this country the same way it did to tibet so long ago.

When she returned to KPC after years of absense in Sedona, she called all the volunteers who had maintained things for years "like puppies that s==t on the floor while their owner was gone" and said she almost hit a volunteer who hadn't got her clean curtains back up on the lama house yet. Said volunteer had earlier that year broke her ankle while working on her lama house and took months to heal, and she gets called a dog??? Alyce Zeoli is no lama.

She is definitely "rich", and her activities has bestowed her wealth of dharma to us sincere practitioners.

elnigma, you don't know what you are talking about. I was her attendant when returning to KPC and these things never happened. And, furthermore, I sat in on many conversations between Jetsunma and His Holiness and the reason he said he would do no more recognitions was due to Westerners' pride and problems with it, not because of any unhappiness with the tulkus themselves.
How she is doing in early 2019 ????
Is she still practicing the true dharma ?
I have come across many Westerner Buddhist NUN who are only hungry for POWER, FAME and longing for JETSUNMA (Title) recognition whether they posses any high dharma knowledge or not and they hardly posses any good quality and character of a true Buddha disciple.
In short i can say WESTERN culture and TRADITIONAL Tibetan culture upbringing are totally opposite and this particular upbringing creates a big differences when the child grow older and socialise with people.
The Western BUDDHIST NUN should spent their childhood days in tibetan nunnery and practice dharma and realise and practice COMPASSION, because western nun till dates lack COMPASSION and are full with EGOISM, ENVY AND ARROGANT.
NOTE: this is purely based on my personal experience and observation and it applies not to whole western Buddhist nun.

The credulity that manifests itself amongst the practioniers of the Vajrayana strikes me as particularly foolish. It is often argued that failing to surrender oneself to one's Guru and retaining a sceptical and critical mind may inhibit one's spiritual development but it seems to me that throwing critical judgement away an investing all sorts of individuals with spurious spiritual qualities is far more likely to impede true spiritual progress. Given the sheer quantity of Tulku Lamas and Rinpoches operating in the West one might be inclined to believe that entry into Amitabha's Pure Land is just round the corner but personally I doubt if we shall be entering any time soon.
+magaoda I am a vajrayana Buddhist but do not believe in this tradition of blind faith in teacher. It might work well if teacher teach how to think but will not work at all if he teaches what to think.
+magaoda HH The Dalai Lama cautions us against blind obedience to the Guru in 'Healing Anger'. Everyone should be aware that Vajrayana has become something of an industry in the West. The Buddha himself advises us all to be critical of all teachings, especially those that do not accord with Dharma
