Hahaha, I love to see people get super pumped about a 25 horse outboard. I told a guy I was looking to get an aluminum boat with a 40 horse outboard, and he's like "40 horse? It won't go anywhere! Lol". He's got a 150. Some people don't understand that small boats cruise on small outboards. A 9.9 is a speed demon to some people.

Tohatsu builds a pretty good motor for mercury.
My small outboards get me places big boats don't and get me home just the same on 3 gal of fuel on a weekend trip. If you are putting in 200+ hours a year on a 25hp vs 20 hours on 250hp who is getting their money's worth

Man I’m right there with you! I’m 44 and have had nothing but 5 and 6hps and I recently picked up a Yamaha f25 and it’s a complete game changer! I feel like a kid on Christmas 😊

Today's 25s are not the same as yesterday's, they have similar HP but way more torque(4 stroke) so they can be propped better for performance.

I've a near naked '90s 16' Alumacraft MVTex/30hp Merc. . Mod V hull is nice, but still a jon boat. (30mph with just me)
Nice jon setup. I near always get skunked so it remains naked except carpeted floor....wide open space to sleep out in. (-:

Ik its not apples to apples. But on a. honda the 25 and 30 is the same platform. I bought a 30 hp honda for my 1448. Although no speed demon it shoots out the hole. Very torquey compared to other 25s i have driven. I wish i would have gotten the power trim with it. Other 25s ive driven would get as much as a 2-4 mph speed decrease adding one more person and my 52 qt ice chest loaded down for the weekend at the camp. This honda im only loosing .5-1 mph.

What pitch/diameter is your prop? I just bought a 2023 EFI 25hp Merc and it feels like its lower on rpms at full speed. 22/23 mph is what I can get out of it with the 12 pitch prop. I need to get the Vessel view mobile to see my rpms.

I got this before in 12 years as a Tohatsu, same engine 526 ccm.Yes this oil filter and the third spark plug is something use a little teknique to replase but other than that it,s a wery good engine. I used it ab 1100 hours , but no i downsized to a 9,8 hp because need to go over a shallow water out in the fjord. It,s a channel and then i have the boat a 10 feet norwegian Pioner boat outside the door. This is a bit slower espesially in accelaration but when get it up on plane it get moore rews then the previous i think and go in ab 17 knots with 2 people so it meet the demands of island trips and 8 nautical miles down the fjord. But if a bigger one again i go for some 3 sylindred like this new version. Exellent engines.

@@DudeLetsFish Norway, South outside Bergen, i solved the problem with a little slow engine performance if boat loaded and pitched from a 8,5 to a 7,5 propeller on the tohatsu 9,8.This was really like getting å new Quick engine with better tork also when 2 in boat. I live 1 m from the water and demand the optimal of Even this little boat,. Have good boat adventures:)
