Court TV please stop the stupid commercials for Cologuard. You know...the home test so when people get a false positive test it will scare them into running to the Dr and getting a colonoscopy. Makes me wonder if big pharma is hurting for people due to them not getting colonoscopies? Now they have a home test so that it scares them into submission. Rediculous when you watch court tv on you tube that commercial is on every 15 min with the "cute little jingle" I did it my way. Sickening.

Last year the Florida Legislature passed House Bill 1297, which amends section 794.011 of the Florida Statutes to read,
      "S e x u a l Assault:
A person 18 years of age or older who commits sexual battery upon,
or in an attempt to commit sexual battery injures the sexual organs of, a
person less than 12 years of age commits a capital felony, punishable as
provided in ss. 775.082 and 921.1425. In all capital cases under this section,
the procedure set forth in s. 921.1425 shall be followed in order to determine
*a sentence of death* or life imprisonment."
This new statute will not apply to Madeline's case because the enacting date was October 1, 2023 and Madeline turned 12 in February 2023. Had this statute been in place a year earlier, Sterns may very well have been facing a death penalty just for the charges he's currently being held under. Not even considering her murder.

Possibly pregnant? Kept what he's been doing to her quiet for at least two years that we know of so this would've exposed him. Possibly had a plan for this scenario with efforts resetting phone, disposing backpack seems sloppy I'm surprised no charges are filed just because I think we all know the truth.

She probably couldn't sleep due to the fear induced hypervigilance and CPTSD. Her life was a nightmare. I also blame the fact that she probably felt she couldn't turn to DCFS because foster care is also a nightmare for ap many children. The state has funds to investigate, prosecute and warehouse predators after the murder, but they need to provide truely safe places for children to escape to for care and shelter. Even some d.v. shelters are run better than a children's group home.

Yes 100% correct. At a minimum her daughter was being sexually abused in that house for at least 4 years. That is a huge period of time to live in close proximity in the house and be clueless about any sexual activity. The mother's failure to rescue her daughter from the horror she was suffering is criminal. I also think the biological father should be held to some responsibility, how can a father just abandon his child, it is not up to society to raise his daughter, provide health care, education, sanity, it is up to the biological parents. Why did no one protect her? The school never noticed strange things about the girl? That gross monster was manhandling her for years, he must have left marks. Didn't her mother ever take her to a doctor for an annual check up? The doctor would see if she was sexually active although not by choice. It is so scary that a child can be abused and repeatedly raped for years but o one knows? There are just too many answers to a huge number of questions. And yes the public has a right to know, even if a lynch mob forms against the mother, let the cops handle that. I am so angry on behalf of this poor little girl at every single person that failed her.

You don't have to be lured when it's your mom's bf. It can be an assault and violent, and then when you're crying, they threaten you or your family. You promise not to tell. That's why it's not the child's job to 'tell' or to 'fight back.' both parents need to be in their children's lives, so they can notice subtle changes in their happiness and behavior.
    That's the parents job.
I keep hearing people say 'teach your children to tell. Or teach your child to fight back.' how about teach the parents to watch the child, and watch for signs, and pay attention, and do your job, and keep your children safe.
Moms, there is no excuse for you to put a bf above your child. Dammit!
My mom kept forgiving my stepdad. I understand that money was a problem, and she couldn't bear being lonely, and when i was 14 she had cancer so that was the perfect excuse. Till the day she died last year, she told me how well he took care of her the year she had cancer. So that's why.
That's the same year i realized he had orchestrated us to be alone, so i went to bed scared, and woke up to him grabbing me from my bed, carrying me to his. I screamed but nobody was there, i even hoped our German shepherd would save me, but he had planned ahead, and put the dog out, which we never did at night.
His excuse, he was drunk and thought i was someone else.
My bio dad was off starting a new family, excelling in his career while my mom was broke after helping him get his advanced degree. Had he done his job, he would've noticed i slowly started becoming depressed. But i barely knew him anymore.
My big sister had to be the one to notice and she told our Mormon bishop what had happened to me. And he just told me to try harder not to get alone with my stepdad. 'You don't want to tear down your family do you?' he said.
Adults need to do their jobs and protect children.
STOP PUTTING THE JOB ON CHILDREN!!
They can't tell you on command, it's too scary and embarrassing! It feels so gross!
    And you've been threatened.
But this isn't a case of being lured into a 'relationship,' please stop doing that! It is so gross.
    No child wants this!
    It's terrifying
We don't know how to stop an adult who tells us we have to do something, when the other adults all seem ok with that person having authority over us.
In my case, i froze. I just froze and obeyed. Except the time i screamed for our dog.
    Poor Maddie.
I wonder if he threatened her and she lived with that, or she just froze and this murder was a surprise.
Maybe mom broke up with him, and he said if i can't have her, you can't have her.
    Poor Maddie.
But it was no relationship. She looks like a child who froze, she looked detached at her party. Dissociated.
    Scared.
    I was violently attacked.
The first time, i was kidnapped, he was just dating my mom. I didn't even know him. I thought i was going to die.
    No grooming. I hated him.
But no adult did their job.
And when i did reach out for help, 2 years later, i was told not to get alone with him.
    And he got meaner.
2022 Maddie's stepdad got meaner. She must've got brave and told.
And like me, telling didn't make her safe. Parents doing their job is the solution.
It's scary and violent and an alternate reality where you don't understand what is happening.
Lured. That word really bothers me.
    Love you little Maddie💕✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨💧

You are absolutely right. It is the parents responsibility to care for their kids. But most of the time, parents lack of such care about their kids and they put the woman or men in their life first instead their kids. It is so sad that there are no more moral principles, education and common sense. How am I going to leave my kids with my boyfriend or girlfriend alone. I admire you to become the brave person that spoke up for someone else to learn from you. I coul say that Maddie's mother is guilty, guilty, by omission or perhaps an accomplice to murder.

I'm SICK and TIRED of disturbed, sick and twisted individuals committing these terrible, heinous crimes, while others expect the child/victim to act as the adult (tell/fight back/etc). we must protect each other, especially these kids, to do away with these predators as best as we can, before they have the opportunity destroy lives.

That goes for romantic partners, family and even child care workers or school employees. Literally you have to watch everyone.

Sometimes I get why there are some people who genuinely believe that people shouldn't be allowed to reproduce & parent without being vetted first. It's unrealistic and would be mishandled by the government, but damn of its not a tempting concept. Too many feckless, selfish, depraved parents exist. Our modern culture is a hellscape, y'all.

I think mom is involved. There's no way she didn't notice something was wrong and for him to have all that very valuable CP with mom living in a gated community and be doing so well financially I think they were profiting off of it. I know you don't want to believe me but I've been in prison and Ive met over 10 moms in my state of 400 thousand who profited off of SA of her kids. The mom has the same look in her eyes.

I grew up like Madeline. This is why it's very triggering. I first remember being SA at age 3. By the time I was Maddie's age, I was experienced at adult behavior. My adoptive brother was one of my abusers and he married a woman with 3 children. He had his eye on the daughter. This didn't end well with lives ruined, as you could imagine. I'm in NZ, and there's no justice here for those kinds of crimes. It's almost as if the system enables it. It's hard to fully recover without proper justice.

She knew it hurt me becUse it's my only child. She has two twin daughters I raised prior to our separation. 'SHE engaged in this relationship because it gave her a relationship??' WRONG!
I can't stand how stupid people share their opinion when they've never been there.
Kids don't engage in this activity WILLINGLY. I was forced every time against my will. This can go on for years without you telling, or with people you do tell minimizing it, or you have been threatened. You cry, you freeze, you fight back, you scream. But these master manipulators groom OTHER PEOPLE.
My stepdad orchestrated times when i would suddenly be alone with him. So my screaming wasn't heard. The last few years he kept me quiet by telling me my mom had cancer and would die from stress if she knew.
I was way too young to unpack that lie!
Stop talking like these children are willing participants, just because they are prisoners for years and you can't understand why we can't get away!
    Please!
