At 1:17 he goes somewhere in his mind and I sense he’s keeping his emotions in check a bit. I’ve wondered while watching other “Behind the Vinyl” videos if the artists ever feel overwhelmed with nostalgic memories of their heydays.
Yes Ivan looks happy but sad? I suppose any of us are going to look back on various times of our lives (no matter how old we are) and reflect with equal smiles and melancholy of days gone past.
@@boom973Toronto Every day of sunshine and warmth has to fade eventually. The winter of later days will come as will new summers but every summer is a one off.
I always thought Safety Dance was a great song! It was short, catchy and to the point. And I wasn`t really much of a new wave fan at that time with the exception of a few groups. The video is one of my favorite music videos from that era.
I was a wee lad when I first heard this, and the video at the same time. It was fun. And silly. The song itself is memorable, even if you don’t want it to be.
Felicitaciones por sus exitos y su carrera musical, ya pasaron decadas y la reprodusco en formato de cinta magnetica y me remonta a esa epoca feliz de mi adolecencia. Muchas gracias y sigan cosechando exitos en su proyectos musicales.
This song and this video was my NUMBER ONE of the 80 ties - when I've seen Ivan for me it was the most beautyful creature on earth at the age of 16 and the video showed me a world which I was actually 20 years later living in. A middle age community in germany I've came across 2003-2010. The movement is still strong see: www.karfunkel.de Sometimes life is like a mirracle! Thank you Ivan for this beautiful gift - an outstanding video (for me the best of the 80-ties) and my most beloved song from the 80. Incredible job. I became a big fan of man without hats and even loved the b-sides like Antarktika etc. It prooves to be for ever an outstanding talent. Be blessed with good fortune. Always. Forerver thankful for your talent and your songs.
83 was a incredible year for music, when ever I hear this song the memories come flooding back to a wonderful summer and being seduced by a girl called debbie that took my cherry lol
I couldn't disagree more. We learned what inspired the song (even the song and group he was pogoing to). We learned that the album version isn't what took off big time. (it was the remix) We learned how humble and awesome Ian is as he didn't do the normal "yeah, I'm awesome, I wrote a great song." Indeed, he credited the video and the people in the video and even mentioned them by name and what they're doing now.
Well said , Lucky . I also like that he's kept in touch with some of the people from the video . A lot of new bands , back in the 80s , used their friends and family in their videos , because it saved money ... How many friends from 35 odd years ago are you still in touch with ? I still talk to a couple at least once a year
I remember the first time I heard Safety Dance I thought Men Without Hats were British but was blown away many years later that they were Canadian!
SOMEONE GOT A LITTLE CHOKED UP IN THIS INTERVIEW!!!
I LOVE YOU, IVAN!!!
❤❤❤
I love Ivan! Still an excellent vocalist/showman today! MWH have been currently tearing it up on the live scene.
I saw Ivan perform for the first time in Toronto. He put on such a good show. His voice is amazing live.

Cool to see how proud he seems to be of it.
Gotta love Ivan. Great underrated singer. That voice...wow

Yes, they do. We get many comments from the artists after they shoot these videos about how much fun they had looking back.

I have seen Ivan in Thrifty Foods, James Bay Victoria a few times.
This is one of the best TH-cam channels going. Amazing.😃⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great song and I loved the video!! I go to a water aerobics class and our instructor has it on his playlist
Still crave to hear this song sometimes. It’s so great.
pogo dancing got me kicked out of an Ottawa bar so I went home and wrote Safety Dance lol brilliant
I remember a time when you could not get in your car without hearing this song on the radio. So glad I was born in 1970.
"And you can act real rude and totally removed, and I can act like an imbecile." Words to live by.
lets face it this track is all about the amazing clean production of synths and Linndrum.

I like it
He still is a handsome man.Love it in the 80s.
I never thought much of this song, but Ivan seems really cool and focused, and he's Canadian so he'll be on my setlist soon.
Now this made me cry... I love the extended version of this even more... What is he doing now??? I would love to talk to him....

would love to do one of these sessions regarding my 90's band Swell. Lots to share, LMK?

No hay nada mejor que la música de los 80s.
Well done good sir.
Great song!!! Played this at the dance!!!

How superb , he sounds like a humble , nice guy,, and he likes B52S,, :)
This song was the "cuT". Recorded it off the radio and played it over and over..
Rock On Strivin' Ivan.🤘

A man of a few words but well choosen.
I still have my 45 it's awsome
Wow, I expected him to say a lot more. At least he doesn't ramble on like some :)
I always wondered what it was about
“Remember the Safety Dance? It wasn’t as safe as they said it was.”
“You can dance! Dunh dunh dunh da dunh da dunh dunh!”
“AAAGGGHHHHH! My boneitis!”

Humble cat
Why are his glasses crooked? And why does this video have so few views?
Share the video and let's change that!
Safe to dance
Safety Dance
Interesting
The movie "The Mexican" brought me here.
Wow. Some songs just have no story other than it was written. That’s it...
Man, I thought the song was about save sex! It's a song from the 80s and would've made sense, 'cause of the AIDS epidemic!
83 was a incredible year for music, when ever I hear this song the memories come flooding back to a wonderful summer and being seduced by a girl called debbie that took my cherry lol
TheGodParticle, and she still has it!
COLLECTIVE SOUL should have revised this song
Such a gentle and elegant man but obviously not one for much words. I learned nothing about the song from this video. :(
Well, that was useless.
I couldn't disagree more.

A boring song by a boring band.
Moronic comment by a moron.
You sound like a major moron with no musical taste and if you don’t like the song and band nobody’s twisting your arms and legs to listen to.🖕
