- Travel with the train driver as we run a transfer using an N class diesel locomotive towing one passenger car from South Dynon to McIntyre yard in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The passenger car is to be transferred from standard gauge to Broad gauge.

OMG - as ex driver I have driven this line to Albury many times (1976 -1986) and this is the first time I have seen how the yards have trippled or more in size around South Dynon. Thank you for the video,

Hey 'Driver 667', the memories you brought back to me with this video and I'm still on the job, sparks these days having started back in 1976 as a trainee engineman at Dynon Loco, just a hand full of us left as we head towards retirement and the memory of dynon depot and the meal room and the fuel point and what's left of that place and the views from the cab which usually in those days on the standard guage was from a New X Class 45-55 (as we referred to them) or a C Class and the views of the old dynon depot, the pass car sheds as you passed them which the Aurora & Spirit cars were shunted into & maintained and further on towards Nth Dynon with all the changes and private rail companies and their locos when it was always the 'Blue & Gold of the VR' and nothing else in those days etc
Then through the old footscray tunnel towards Totty yard and the disgusting graffiti what happened to that place, dont see it any more stuck on the Clifton Hill/Burnley groups these days!
Things certainly have changed from the old VR Days, thanks for the memories and hope it continues onwards for you blokes (Enginemen) into the future like it was for us, well done mate
And then you approached McIntyre yard whi h as i recall was just a basic crossing loop in those days
There have been a lot of changes over the years. I'm also getting toward the retirement end of my career. I probably worked alongside you at some point, either Dynon or the sparks. There are a lot of good memories of the years gone by. Happy to be able to bring some of them back for you. 👍😀

I did a loco drop to South Dynon a few weeks back. Must say if you didn't know what you were doing in there, boy oh boy.

Where is McIntyre yard, never heard of it? I left Melbourne in the 70s. I know it is all changed these days. Cheers from Wagga.

I don't drive freight trains any more. Vline is just passenger trains now.👍😀
My question is how you would either get back to the depot or SCS for the changeover for the next train ride for somewhere else, or where did you end up going to from here after you parked the loco (engine) that time?

The locomotive went back on it's own. The yard would be maybe a bit under 1000 metres or so. 👍😀
Silly question regarding gauges, but was the carriage you were transferring already standard and is now going to be refitted as broad gauge?
Trying to picture it in my head and admittedly have a low technical understanding of these things. 😊

to McIntyre, Victoria 3472 is 188km by road how does the train manage to do it in 22 mintues traveling low speed?
