  • Hasbro Pulse had some 6 inch Indiana Jones Adventure Series toys on sale. So, in a moment of weakness accompanied by an unusually optimistic attitude that day, we bought some. Afterall, they couldn't be that bad, right?... RIGHT?

The base figures are not too bad....HOWEVER, there are amazing and absolutely ponderous decisions made in terms of engineering, QC, colors chosen, accessories for sure, what figures they decided needed to be immortalized in plastic, reused parts that make no sense...this is the reason I never bought any. I look at images of them and I see good things and then I see all these strange things Hasbro did like....they seems to want to be like the import companies and make high end figures, but they gotta keep the prices somewhat reasonable, but then they cheap out on things that would elevate the figure so they can keep their profit margins they had BEFORE all the inflation nonsense happened so they price gouge us and really, I'm getting tired of it.

Anyone who wants a definitive Indiana Jones should just get the one from SHF. Sure it's a more expensive import figure, but it's pretty much like having 3+ Indy's in 1 figure. You get 3 great head sculpts, options for with or without his hat/jacket on, various hands, golden idol, medallion, whip, coiled whip, pistol, sandbag, etc. Plus the sculpt is better, plastic is higher quality, and articulation is better too. Butterfly joints are insane and necessary for a character like Indy. It has like everything you need.

I get it, I am watching a channel with the word “critical” in its title…. But yes, this is a bit nitpicking. I had apprehensions about this line when it was announced. I only bought a couple of the core figures when they started to go on clearance. I had the opposite reaction that you had upon receiving them, I was impressed with the figures and it felt evident to me that the creative team behind this line had some true love of the franchise (or at least respect for it). I now own both waves and love them, and wish this line hadn’t been cancelled. I don’t look for any crazy articulation out of pedestrian characters. Any of the random accessories that they included felt more like world-building items for the shelf and not oversights of pairing the wrong items with the wrong characters. If you’re going to critique the Build-An-Artifact then… well I just don’t know. Marvel Legends has been doing this for years. It’s a selling gimmick sure, but the completed Last Crusade artifact is truly such a well designed, weighty centerpiece of this line. For the original price point we were getting a lot. At these now crazy reduced prices… It’s a steal.

The reason they did Marcus and alternate Belloq instead of Willie is because Willie would have needed to be tooled from scratch. Once they had a "suit" mold though all they had to do was mold different heads and they could get multiple characters out of one body mold. It's the same reason they did Kazim. I wouldn't say it's the worst toy line. There have been others that have been particularly bad. Especially those that cost a heck of a lot more than these. I think back to the Advent Children Barrett Wallace from Play Arts Kai. The Indiana Jones Figma figure. These figures are miles better than the figma. In my experience Figma just can't do realistic faces. My MGS2 Solid Snake from Figma also looks particularly bad.
For $25 the Hasbro Indy isn't bad. He has a decent likeness and sculpt. The Build an Artifact set pieces are pretty decent as well for a display. That being said? The line in my mind is wasted potential. There were so many things that have held this line back. Just to run through them quick...
    1. Huge gaps in the line with notable omissions of iconic characters. There's a lot missing from Temple of Doom. No Willie Scott, no Lao Che, no Thuggee Chief and most egregious? No Mola Ram. There's also a distinct lack of characters even from Raider's or Last Crusade. No Satipo, No Vogel. No Col. Dietrich, German Mechanic, or German Disguised Indy. The line feels very much like they axed certain characters to be politically correct which doesn't make sense when this is a line that is largely going to appeal to older collectors. But because it has 4+ on the box...they didn't want the controversy of selling toys of n*zi's. The irony is that Toht is. They just gave him a white lapel. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had none. No Mutt, Spalko or Dovchenko. Instead we had DIal of Destiny figures. I get it...new film = new figures to tie into said film. Again the irony though is that these felt kind of shoehorned into various lines and came with B.A.A. pieces because they knew they likely wouldn't sell otherwise. Heck they didn't even make a figure of agent mason who they made a big deal about. Yet they made a figure of Renaldo for Banderas who was in the film all of what...5-10 minutes? There was also no army builder. No german soldiers, no thugee cultists, etc.
    2. They recycled a lot of parts. Again i'm not really opposed to that, as it saves money in having to retool things for every character. But the line has been referred to as the "men in suits" line.
    3. Figures could feel inconsistent. Some came with a ton of accessories, others reused existing accessories and offered little new. (Cairo Indy reused the monkey that came with Marion for some reason but he had a different shirt and head sculpt.
    4. Pricing also felt inconsistent. The Brody and Belloq 2-pack at $54 felt a bit overpriced even if an individual figure typically retailed for $25. It's the lack of accessories that kind of makes the $54 price tag feel excessive. The Temple Escape was also overpriced at launch when you consider it is a repackaged Indy with the only addition being the Plinth. But this "deluxe" product doesn't come with the alternate hands, in their place is a bag of sand. They could have thrown a bone and offered a set of glove hands to sweeten the deal. I didn't pick this up until the price hit $30.
With that being said? I didn't like DoD, but that doesn't mean there aren't some positives to the line. There are definitely some figures that are worth picking up even if you don't plan to complete the entire line. The Grail Knight, Henry Sr., Toht, and Temple of Doom Indy are all great. Club Obi Wan Indy as well. Is the SHF figure better? Sure, but it's also about 3x the price of the Hasbro Indy. And credit where credit is due? I think Hasbro's jacket for Indy looks better with weathering and the color is better than the SHF where the jacket is a bit too dark imo. And the SHF scales well with the Hasbro figures so I think it's worth picking up both.
As for stiff joints? Some action figures can have this. Just soak them in some warm water and they will probably loosen up. Also saw your GI Joe Cover Girl. I had seen people had issues with the arms falling off in box. I picked up one myself and fortunately do not have that problem. I made her into a Sophia Hapgood.

    2. You skipped out on the best figures of the line. Henry Jones Sr was one of my favorite figures of 2023 with perfect accessories and a dead on Connery likeness. Major Toht is also a great figure with both the burnt hand and the melting head.
    3. I'll give you Sallah, that figure is really bad.
    4. You can't bitch about the build-an-artifact if you didn't bother to build the damn thing. You can bitch about the whole BAF formula that toylines employ these days, but complaining that it's not a fun accessory is God damn stupid.

@@imjango1052 Alright chief, you seem to have missed some of my points... I'm not "bitching" about the build an artifact. I have no issue with it or the method. I was merely making a joke about how if you only buy one figure you only get a piece or two, which with sallah you put them together and have the "coffee table of the covenant".
Yes, the Last Crusade figures are better in sculpt and such. However, seeing these I will not be hunting them down to add to my collection. But if you or others have/want them thats great - I am not gonna make a song and dance about how its bad someone else enjoys a line I didn't care for.
The Brody thing was a jab at him getting priority over figures that imo would be better to accompany what they did bring out. In place if Brody, we should have got Colonel Dietrich for example.
And lastly, I am not "expecting Hasbro to be on an import level". That is nonesene. I would however, like Hasbro to deliver a good quality item for the price they charge. Which sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't. They have made good toys before, and I'd love to see them do more. But what I hate the most about Hasbro is each time I but a new piece of theirs, I always feel like I'm playing russian roulette. Because I could get something fantastic (Luke snowspeeder) or I could got a box of disappointment (Magnagaurd).
I really wanted the Adventure series to be good because of how much I like the Indy films. But what they gave us feels lazy and rushed. All I want is for Hasbro to make the great stuff they used to. So I'll vote with my dollars.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with your comments and conclusions. My figures have all been fine, I rather think that you have some duff figures. 12:05

I would've liked to have seen generic german soldiers (doubtful they could've added the swastikas) for army building. there are a few figure lines that those would've fit perfectly with outside of indy.

I’m curious with how disappointed you are with the adventure series, were you disappointed with the Tobey Spider-Man figure hasbro did last year. I certainly was, particularly with the shade of red they chose for that figure.

@@samuelmackenzie5267 Oh definitely. The hasbro NWH spider man figs were also major disappointments. But on the other side of the coin, the Doc Ock and Green Goblin they did in the same line were absolutely wonderful.

    good review bro
I got indy raiders, henry, elsa, marion, sallah, shaw, toth, marcus and belloq, 9 figs
for the price, it s meh, you have to love indy a lot
after your video, I checked sallah, yeah, he s slack now, I posed him a little more than others
and it s 30" in my apart today.
but any 6' I picked, they re pretty much pro stuff...
hot water.... not me, I had figs in the 80s, and can see a difference
it s pro figs, where posing is extra articulated, but harder to pose
it s the weight ration and ankles you need to work on more
I needed to work em in the 80s, but not as much as now...
and yeah, mess em when they re cold, and you may break them.
I removed sallah s robe to make him more flexible, it worked well.
my other gripe is the missing characters, mutt, willy, and most bad guys... eh
if you just have indy figures, this will be quite dull
and they made so many indys, 6 - 7 indys?
without the bad guys, who needs that much? I saw one in suit for $25 instead of 45, and forget it!
I enjoy them because I do funny things - cross overs with joes - legends
yeah, marcus with a high tech gun, totally out of character, ha, ha.
of course, I have the ark, and cobra, aim, hydra wants it.
I have 4 dios, and can place all on them, but one is dedicated to the ark.
and it s the piece that got me started doing dios.
my fun now is pretty much 1/2 fig - dios, I keep most figs in box and rotate the action weekly or so.
    so now you know...
    good show bro

My main gripe with this line was they never finished it, how can you not make Willie Scott or Mola Ram? And the fact that they skipped a whole movie and never made anything from Crystal Skull. The line was dead right after wave 1 as the writing was on the wall with their announcements after. They just used the hype for the new movie to make some toys and once that movie came out it was over.
I really wish Hasblow would let go of the Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters license so a company like Neca could do them justice.

@@randomkillerx2157 This line almost felt like "corporate said we need Indy figs. Quick make something!" And we wound up with these... it's a shame, since there is huge potential for a great line of awesome figures of awesome characters.
It does indeed make one think about what a different company could do with the license.

most people don't have insanely high expectations for hasbro dude. you want super high end you gotta look else where......and pay for it. hasbro is for people who just want to fuck around with some mildly decent looking plastic.

@@funghoul9124 I'm not looking for super high end from Hasbro, that department is Mafex and Figuarts. What I want is good quality for the price I pay, and thank God I got the few Adventure series I did on clearance, because they are a massive let down. Even for Hasbro. Who has made some epic stuff (6" Hoth rebel soldier, TVC stormtrooper, Legends Doc Ock, etc.)

I mean this video is a joke right? This line wasn't great and I'm not even an Indy fan, but you don't even know what you're doing with the figures😂you've got arms turned the wrong way complaining they don't bend enough, complaining about ankle pivot and the shoulders, but you're clearly barely touching them. AND CALLING INDY A CULT CLASSIC!!😂This was for laughs right?
