Nine Inch Nails - Ruiner - Live at the Wiltern Theater, 9.10.09 *Final NIN Concert*

- September 10th, 2009. The Wiltern Theater, Los Angeles California. History will remember this as the 830th live performance of Trent Reznor's genius Nine Inch Nails.
Their 830th and, incidentally, final live performance. Although Trent Reznor has vowed to continue making music, whether it be in the vessel of Nine Inch Nails or something completely untried, he has stated time and again that he is done with the live aspect of Nails.
This, the Wiltern performance, was not to be their last but second to last. Because Trent took ill he had to rescedule two of the LA shows, making the Wiltern Theater the last venue Nine Inch Nails would ever play.
So by some stroke of luck/fate/something, I found myself on a plane bound for LA (for the second time in a week) to take witness to this, the most anticipated, and yet dreaded, final NIN performance.
The show was, predictably, the most amazing show I've ever seen. According to antiquit.com, "Reznor and company played thirty-eight songs, in four sets spanning over 3 hours, the longest show the band has ever played." Guests included Gary Numan, Mike Garson, Dillinger Escape Plan, Atticus Ross and Dave Navarro.
This show was the epitome of epic, as you'll be witness to from these videos.
And who knows, maybe it won't be the end at all... - เพลง
I never understood why Trent said in an interview that he didn't think much of this song and thought it was 'cheesy', for me it was always my favourite track off the downward spiral.
It was interesting, experimental, and hard hitting...like most of the album. He might have felt that way more about the lyrics maybe?
same tbh
@AnnaDahmer666 He said "I have such a bad vibe from that song now--from it sucking in so many different ways"
That guitar solo is awesome
I fuckin love this love part 2:31
Trent - "didn't you?"
Robin - "didn't you ?!"
Trent - "DIDN'T YOU ?!"
That lead synth is the part that makes the song so bad ass, it sounds like a bunch of bagpipes at least to me, but its such an unnatural sound, it doesn't even sound like a synth, its just a unique sound.
Sounds like a 90s action movie/game soundtrack i always thought it was the most badass thing ever
T. Reznor can channel his anger like Keanu Reeves channels bad accents, it is effortless..
Jesus. could it be? a GOOD fan recording of a live show?!
Trent Reznor saved my soul too many times
So poetic!
I remember when I first heard this song, I thought there was no way they could play live and have it sound good. Clearly, I was mistaken.
I wish he would slot a 'Ruiner' into like....Piggy's spot in the setlist more often.
Yep me to, this n Sin are deffo their nost kick arse songs
yeah, I mean Piggy is good but I’d rather see Ruiner performed any day.
It felt so surreal to be there and hear that baseline knowing that you are just about to hear Robin play that solo right in front of you.
What the fuck. This is an incredible recording.
After years of checking out NIN live performances, I still come back to this one and I'm always so happy to see Trent perform with such passion.
You didn't hurt me, nothing can hurt me
Love Robin's handling of the solo, he puts just the right amount of his own spin on it.
love this song.. best part of my life while i was studying in the university.. no one understood the music i listened in my phone, the music i used to post in my facebook, back in 2009, Cusco, Perú..I felt like the luckiest man just to know your songs. Trent Reznor, I owe you a lot, your music gave me a lot of motivation
this is awesome, always has been and is still my favorite NIN song. Trent doesn't perform this song to often from what I know so this is really special. Great Job capturing a moment!
Robin Finck has an incredible Voice
um holy shit this is bad ass.
This is great quality
3:22 one of the greatest things ive ever heard
That's funny, cause I'm pretty sure he's gone on like three more tours after this. You might want to update the description homie.
At the time this was uploaded it was the final NIN concert. But then they came back obviously.
It was just one last tour before a break, that' all.
No, Trent wanted NIN to end because it was overwhelming and he was afraid of continuing(according to interviews), he did Destroying Angels for like 4 years and came back cause he needed it. That is all info fro treats blog.
@@whippybox9271 Came back haunted. 😉

So im 13... i have all this loathing in me and this album is on the charts.. it defined me.. more then anything all that anxt and energy and rage and anger and just fuck everything
that tambourine must've been a great souvenir
Favorite Song from "TDS"
Love It
That was amazing. My god.
this song defines bad ass, wish they played it more
great upload, man!
Outstanding video and audio.
I had to fly out to LA twice in one week for this, too!
Thanks for the footage!
Amazing. great video. Chaonatic thank you for providing us with some excellent footage throughout NIN's tours.
chaonatic you are awesome for recording this. gave me goosebumps
So happy that you uploaded this. The bass sounds badass in this live version.
Fantastic!!!
EPIC
You had all of them on your side
Didn't you, didn't you?
You believed in all your lies
Didn't you, didn't you?
The Ruiner's got a lot to prove
He's got nothing to lose and now he made you believe
The Ruiner is your only friend
And he's the living end to the cattle he deceives
Raping of the innocent
You know the Ruiner ruins everything he sees
Now the only pure thing left
In my fucking world is wearing your disease
How'd you get so big?
How'd you get so strong?
How'd it get so hard?
How'd it get so long?
You had to give them all a sign
Didn't you, didn't you?
You had to covet what was mine
Didn't you, didn't you?
The ruiner's a collector
He's an infecter, serving his shit to his flies
Maybe there will come a day
When those that you keep blind will suddenly realize
Maybe it's a part of me
You took it to a place I hoped it would never go
And maybe that fucked me up much more than you'll ever know
How'd you get so big?
How'd you get so strong?
How'd you get so hard?
How'd it get so long?
And what you gave to me?
My perfect ring of scars
You know I can see
What you really are
I actually use the Canon DM-100, it's the directional mic that fits in any recent Canon camcorder's Mini Advanced Shoe port. The mic has three settings:
-Mono Shotgun
-90° Stereo
-120° Stereo
Typically for concerts I use the 90° Stereo setting. It is a nice mic but a bit pricey, I think I spent around $170 on it.
the guitarist is on fire and on point ,
Song rocks!
Jesus Christ I have seen them 4 times but it seems rare they play Ruiner, would love to see this song live
I love that they use real kits on this one. I wish they did the same for Came Back Haunted. I don't know what it's like to hear it at the shows but the sampled bass and drum track really waters the song down, at least when I see it on video.
Amazing recording!!
You know I can see, what you really aaaaaaareeeeeeeeeeeeeeee yeah. What you really areeee.... epic fucking guitar solo.
You know it! ;)
Epic tambourine toss
Thanks for doing Ruiner first, man :)
reconstruted version is crazy too ^^
Dat solo!
My best friend in HS back in the 90s said he went to a NIN show and he got spit on by Trent Reznor himself and I remember how happy he was bec of that.
I get once more the chance to see NIN/Trent Oct5 here in Ohio...its on a Saturday night too....being on the floor for this kind of show is something in onto itself.
Final my ass
Sic as fuck
ive seen them play two times, once with APC, and the other time with Bauhaus(!) could have been three if the guy who drove us to NINJa wasnt so fucking neurotic that he had to drive back home two times to get shit that he forgot. dude still owes me for that one.
It'll be even better when I get the 1080p version up (and thanks.)
:)
10 years later..
Actually I had tickets to the Wiltern venue but the Echoplex was supposed to be the last show. If it hadn't been for the Wiltern venue being rescheduled I wouldn't have been at the last show. Hell, I even flew out to LA twice because it got canceled/rescheduled, lol.
Guess it was karma/fate/something... :D
damn that solo was awesome by Robin!
that fucking bass is so fucking bad ass jesus christ is so fucking sinister sounding one of the rare songs the bass is the lead
The verse was great. The chorus was missing it's wispy flavor. Still loved the heart.
This wasn’t their final performance, I saw them live.
it was supposed to be
at the time it was
Dude 2:03 love it!
I believe he just uses the onboard mic. The audio and video are awesome either way.
yeah, I agree. don't get me wrong, I love NIN, but the anger is gone. Trent's happy now and I'm left here alone with my rage lol.
halo
this has always been one of my favorites. what other nine song has a rippin' guitar solo?
We're In This Together, Last, The Fragile, there's a good few of 'em ;)
i'd say "touche" if this weren't still the best of the bunch :D
No, you don't. Has got a great solo in it
HOW DID YOU GET SO HARD? TELL ME
HAHAHAHA the drummer is part of the Muppet Shows. Theres no goin back after this.
Damn I would love too hear a re released version of the downward spiral with their modern sound
no
absolutely No!!!!!!
The album is a masterpiece as it is and should be left untouched.
Hello fucking NO! Atticus Ross needs to stay far far away from TDS, I'm really not liking NIN so much since he joined
I want to click the "Fucking Love" button, "Like" doesn't do it justice...
did Trent actually play the solo on guitar in the studio? i read an interview and he mentioned it started out as like an "accidental" patch? i don't even know what that means, isn't that like a program update? does that imply that he didn't actually play guitar on it?
My last relationship.
I think it's just a much different energy from the destructive shows he used to play.
How's the last 10 years been for you?
Yeah I went to the final NIN concert only to find out it wasn't the final NIN concert. Kinda shitty, but long live Reznor. My man
I love ruiner, but how come nobody's playing the keyboard? lol, anyway, this song is fuckin great!!
Not by my take. Just sincere.
Lol “final”
man i just hope they play this song again during their next tour, whenever it may be
Scheisse auf Depesche Mode.... mehr gibt's nicht???
Not the final i got vip tickets to the NYC show woooooooooooooooooooooot
Final show was in LA jabroni
I'm aware of the fact that Robin's skills are grand, but I prefer Aaron's take on this solo. Also, for some reason, I can never quite hear Robin's backing vocals, when Aaron was constantly providing great support on that regard. Don't get me wrong, I love both of them equally and don't wish to start a stupid fight over who's better. Anyway, thanks for the upload!
Me too. Sucks don't it?
I loved it but the guitar did not do Trent's original solo justice at all : (.
did you? dream you? find you? taste you. use you. scar you. fuck you. break you. LOSE ME. SMASH ME. HATE ME. erase me. KILL ME! KILL ME! KILL ME! KILL ME! mr. self destruct. thx-117. sympathetic horror. i have not forgotten.~to the reader~i speak of boredom which with ready tears dreams of hangings (& beheadings) as he puffs on his pipe. you know this squeamish monster well, -HYPOCRITE!- MY ALIAS,-MY TWIN!
