Been a personal challenge of mine to see how many reactors pick up that this whole song is a tribute to the song of the Same name from Styles P's first solo album in 02 with Pharoahe Monch. Only one person has partially picked up on it so far lol. J Cole showed his age with this track.
@@Jedi-Biggs DuaneTV. I give him partial credit because he recognized the hook was originally sung by Pharoahe Monch but he didn't mention it was a Styles P song.
album slaps, but I made up that decision after like 5-6 listens because I feel like a first time listen doesn’t do much because people will change options, but after some thinking, it’s really good
I felt like that with TPAB and I wasn't feeling it that much on the first listen because it was so different sonically from what I was used to from KDot. Quickly became my favorite album of all titime. I know its not comparable to this but sometimes albums like these need 1 or 2 listens before coming to a conclusion. J Cole never disappoints tho
5:00 "these po-lease... why'd I say it like that". 🤣😂 I say it like that to everyone unless I don't know you well and I say police and correct it like you do lmao it feels derogatory the first way even if it's just a variation on inflection
They probably made this sobg at the same time they collabed on A Lot. Background singer sample sounds very similar. I LOVEEE YOUUU FOR SO MANY REASOOOONNNN
Man I've been watching you for a minute and when you talk about subscribing I was thinking who ain't subscribe to dude, loom and I wasn't. Swear i thought i had already bruh
FYI FOR THOSE WHO MIGHT NOT HAVE KNOWN BUT THE HOOK IS THE SAME EXACT HOOK AS STYLES P “MY LIFE” TRACK WITH PHAROAHE MONCH OFF STYLES P ALBUM “A GANGSTA AND A GENTLEMAN.”
What Cole said in Amari was 100% correct. I thought the only way to get out of Fayetteville was to join the Army. Then in basic training, my dumb ass decided to join the Airborne division because they were offering a $3000 bonus. My first duty station? Ft. Bragg, 10 minutes from my house in Fayetteville.
#AlgoBoost (also) that was Morray?! Bruh Quicksand and Trenches are a couple of my go to tracks rn fr. Thats dope af. Shoulda known.... Its Cole. Carolina's Highness bringin in Carolina's finest.
Ok..so, I know this is just hip-hop, it’s not someone pushing for actual policy, but we will never get to a better place with police and stuff if all we are gonna do is parrot misinformation just to get by...just to be included...just to not offend. Bad cops are worse than criminals in my opinion, but ppl aren’t just talking about “bad cops” really are they? Yes..that is the “mentality in the hood”, and it causes death after death after death. When you think that way, you are going to react poorly when confronted with a cop. Activists will say “speeding shouldn’t be a death sentence”, “possession of drugs shouldn’t be a death sentence”, etc... And I agree- 100%. It’s not though. Excluding situations where cops fail to do their jobs properly, these types of situations are often due to how the person reacts and behaves in interaction with cops. If you get stopped for speeding or taillight issues, or whatever, but you decide to fight cops physically, try to run, go for weapon or gun, etc...and you get killed by police, that’s not you being “executed for a speeding ticket”. And folks and media personalities that play that game only do it to serve themselves, to serve a political purpose, to pander, whatever- what they aren’t doing, a helping the next young person that decides to fight cops for a stupid charge. The current conversation surrounding policing is so politically charged, do dishonest, so ignorant, I’m afraid we are done. There is no going back. And don’t get it twisted. There isn’t a single police department in America that couldn’t use more training, better equipment, better hiring practices, etc. This stuff costs a lot of money, and we have a bunch of idiotic activists out her screaming “defund the police”. A situation like George Floyd is understandably questioned, understandably focused on- targeted by activists. It makes sense. But when the same activists use the same talking points and are full of the same self-righteousness for cases like Jacob Blake or Ma ‘Khia Bryant than you lose the support of millions bc you aren’t being consistent, you aren’t being fair, you aren’t looking for justice. You are fighting in a pure ideological war and cops are the “enemy”. Not only is this way of thinking dangerous to cops and the public, it’s dangerous to those that think this way. Reasonable ppl see these incidents (if they even bother looking into it to form an individual opinion instead of getting marching orders from BLM Twitter that is) and even though that reasonable person might think “yea, she had a knife and was about to stab the other girl” or “yea, dude had just finger raped a woman, had a huge knife, fought with cops, and was going for knife”, or “yea, dude was running away while shooting at cop with his own taser which could cause the cop to drop his weapon feet from the suspect”.....................and then said “reasonable person” ignores all these thoughts so they can more easily pray at the altar of BLM publicly. Sure, their and thousands of those that think like them’s words may help uphold a false reality, sure this reality may inform decisions that lead to other deaths that can be used to further uphold the false reality. But hey...they posted a black square on Instagram. Virtue-intensified!!! Smh.. MY OVERALL POINT? Until the discussion surrounding policing and race becomes good faith, it will just get worse. As long as hashtags and mantras are seen as societal goods while being willing to start from a place of empathy, but using facts and figures and stats is seen as “racist”, we are screwed. It’s far easier to repeat the mantras when this topic comes up than either avoiding it or being honest and informed. It’s easier to kick the can rather than take the stand. Ooh.... that’s a t-shirt. LOL. Just kidding. Anyways, sorry to get all preachy. Politics of policing aside, great video as usual. 👍👍👍
