I'm glad you reacted to EXO's "Mama". I too was surprised and shocked (positively) when I first saw their debut. Still today this is one of my favorite videos. What I like most is the epic tone of the song, and that chorus (reminiscent of a Gregorian chant) is so powerful and beautiful...goosebumps!! By the way, EXO FROM is written on Kai's face and EXO-PLANET 2012 on his neck; below this are the names of the six members surrounding a hexagon. Ciao from Milano, Italy 👋🏻😉 💚
You only heard D.O doing high notes in early days, not anymore soon EXO became 9 and no more EXO K and M. Chen joined with Baekhyun to belt all crazy high notes and D.O does runs and riffs to start and end EXO songs. So in EXO vocal compilation they show you almost Chen and Baekhyun only, very little of D.O. But like you, people who listen to EXO always find D.O voice as their fav and you are one of the many male reactors have him as bias because of his voice. Anyway every member is talented and deserve love. Pls continue your EXO journey and know more about the members
He literally did the same high note in DFTF and the side track No Matter (C5) as he did in Mama and What Is Love. he still does the same high notes lol idk what you’re talking about
Dude, 2-3 songs don't count on this conversation. Back in the days in exo k era there was fair share of vocal display from baeksoo but ever since exo 9, there's literally less to no D.O vocal showcase, he was literally last at hear me out lone distribution like he's a main vocalist, make it make sense💀@@kledi3817
@@resurgingflameI don't think it's that, his belting is the best imo like recently showcased in the seasons and obv the vocals in lee mujin, I just think it'd have been fair if they gave him higher notes like chenbaek rather than just run and adlibs at the back tbh. Also! Chen better get some lower notes in songs more as well, he has the best range out of the three, I just wish they utilize it well
The beginning of Mama has the members doing Gregorian chants like monks. When EXO-K and EXO-M performed "Mama" together, they would usually sing half of it in Chinese (Mandarin) and the other half in Korean. For the Chinese version of "Mama", it was Kris Wu and Xiumin painted up doing the yelling part in the song. EXO used to do all their songs in Korean and Mandarin. No difference except for the language and the singers. The Korean "What is Love" was sang by Baekhyun and D.O. while the Chinese version was sang by Chen and Luhan, who eventually left the group. Remember while EXO-M sang the songs in Mandarin and had Chinese members, there were two Korean members, Chen and Xiumin, in the group. All the Chinese members left except for Lay. As you noticed, D.O. used to sing the high notes with Baekhyun in EXO-K. Once EXO became one group, Chen started doing a lot of the high notes with Baekhyun. An interesting trivia is that D.O. was known to usually start and end EXO songs. He still does but not that much anymore. I think a lot of it has to do with D.O. being so busy with his acting career. Dude, D.O. is known as the R&B king. You just caught a glimpse of it in "What is Love". Since D.O. is your bias and you love R&B, you need to check out D.O.'s duo with his vocal coach, Yoo Young Jin, called "Tell Me What is Love." There's no complete MV for this song so this is probably the best video to react to. th-cam.com/video/RW2-yJ3fio8/w-d-xo.html There are live performances of D.O. singing this song but it's never the full version. D.O. also did a duet with one of Super Junior's Main Vocal, Ryewook. They covered "Missing You" which is a song from another old SM group called Fly to the Sky. Here are two versions. The first one is a live version at a radio station with Ryewook th-cam.com/video/Jt0ufq3bqEI/w-d-xo.html and the second is a live during an SM concert. th-cam.com/video/VXmBe1rEXwU/w-d-xo.html Yoo Young Jin is the most famous producer at SM and known for his R&B style. He's actually written some of the biggest hits for all SM groups. He did "Mama" and "What is Love" for EXO. He's known to sing the intro to some SM artist songs, especially Super Junior songs. He's responsible for so many of SM hits for TVXQ, Shinee, Girls Generation, EXO, Shinhwa, etc. Enjoyed your reaction. Take care & stay safe!
Baekhyun has been a trainee for a very short time and has sung like this since the beginning and now he is even better and is a very respected vocalist in the industry and a great role model for the new generation of idols.
Ahhh!!! So it’s D.O.!!! I didn’t know you had chosen a bias already. 😭 Seriously Baekhyun and D.O. together sound amazing. They have another song called Moonlight that they also sing together. You should check it out!! I’m glad you enjoyed these two songs. EXO is amazing and it’s so cool to see their sound change and mature over time. Thanks for your reaction!!! ☺️
@@TrineMortensen I’m an older fan, but much slower to get on the boat since I didn’t start listening to kpop until maybe a year ago-so far EXO has completely blown my mind but I’m also a huge fan of NCT and most of the artists on the AOMG label with Jay Park (including Yugyeom)… I didn’t hear the FOCUS album til I fell in love with Yugyeom’s solo masterpiece that came out recently, and now it’s def one of my favorites❤️🔥I still need to get into GOT7, I’m just overwhelmed by the number of artists I’m keeping track of at this point😅
@@ONLYBRITTA Yugyeoms album is seriously a masterpiece.. JayB is my Ult and I thought his album would be my fave, it's my 2nd fave.. Yugyeom blew me away.. EXO was my first group and I will always cherish them so much, they are an Ult group, but GOT7 is my Ult Ult.. I have 3 Ult groups 🤣
@@TrineMortensen I will def make time for some GOT7-I usually don’t fully get into a group until I fall in love with an album, so next time I blast my coworkers or friends with kpop I’ll try something new😎 It’s so weird being a 36 year old and getting into the new generation of groups like JUSTB or ENHYPEN when the members are basically still teenagers😅 I need to spend more time on the backlog of older groups (not that any of the members are older than me😹) The next album I am dying to hear is Kai’s new one🔥His first solo is def one of my favorites if not my #1❤️🔥
D.O. is known as the R&B king of kpop actually. he does in fact have the best vocal agility (ability to do vocal runs etc.) in all of kpop and through exo’s various r&b tracks they released over the years, he showed off his skills. His voice is just so soulful and many people compare his singing style to Bruno Mars’s (his latest album that was released 2 days ago is amazing btw) because of the roughness and soul he brings to the table.
Exo is vocals king no doubt.. I don't care who's more famous now but exo is still one of the most successful kpop group their name is already written in s.korea history..
EXO is so professional that even heavy rain, and injury can stop them to perform they really love what they are doing and it reflects to their performance that why EXO is way better in live performances
In order to really see the full story you actually have to also watch the EXO-M version of "Mama." The whole point of both the EXO-K and EXO-M versions of their songs and each MV is to introduce you to EXO's concept and storyline. If you only watch EXO-K, you only see half the story. "Mama" is like the first episode of EXO's drama -- it sets up everything to come in the rest of the series. And if you miss any part of the first episode you will forever be lost when it comes to the rest of EXO's story. So, in other words, you HAVE to watch the EXO-M version of "Mama." If you watch both versions of their "Mama" MV, you might be able to understand a little more about EXO's mission and everything they have been sent to Earth to do. Because in the EXO-K version the whole story focuses on the K members, but in the M version it will show you the M members and explain their powers and each of their roles in the story. The M version will feature the EXO-M members and they will be the ones singing the main parts of the song. You only see small clips of the M members in the Korean version. But in the Chinese version the story continues, and the EXO-M members are the ones that are highlighted. You have to see both MVs to understand the full story. In Korean Mama is a term they use to address a leader or king or queen. It's a term of reverence and respect. It's similar to saying "Your majesty." If you watch very many historical Korean dramas you will hear the characters call the royal family, and especially the head of the royal family or leader, "Mama." So, in this song, they are speaking to the leader or deity who sent them to Earth, essentially asking, "Now that I'm here, Your Majesty what should I do? How do I fulfill what you have sent me to do?" etc. It's very important that you pay attention to the introduction story in "Mama" because it is literally setting up EXO's storyline. The narrator is telling you EXO's whole origin story, about how EXO have been split up into two groups EXO-K and EXO-M and they are part of the same group and yet separate -- part of two worlds that come together as one, etc. And he is telling you about how the Tree of Life has been split in half to protect it from falling into the Red Forces' control -- each half of the tree representing one half of EXO (EXO-K and EXO-M) -- and EXO's mission is to find the two halves of the tree and reunite them to restore peace in the world. In the EXO-K version of "Mama" the members are using their powers to search for and meet up with the EXO-M members. That is why you see the K members traveling to find the M member. For example, you see Kai using his power of teleportation as he searches for the M members. And, because Xiumin is a member of EXO-M, you see him appear in the mirror because the K members are searching for him and he is being summoned, etc. As the story goes, when EXO arrived on Earth they did not all arrive together. Their story starts out that they were dropped on Earth in different locations all over the world and they have to search for each other and meet up, kind of like in a quest, before they can begin to figure out how to accomplish the tasks they have been sent to Earth to do. When you see the members all together in their "Mama" MVs they are together because they are still on Planet Exo where they are still united. But when you see them separated this is when they have all been sent to Earth. They keep flashing back and forth between present moments and recent past moments. So, how I interpret the story is that at the end they aren't back together yet, but that is a scene from when they were still on Planet Exo as they are preparing to be sent to Earth. The two worlds the narrator talks about in the introduction could possibly be different dimensions, so you often see parts of their story which could be interpreted as them being in different dimensions or time periods or different moments in history. Each of the members in EXO-K has a counterpart in EXO-M, so part of what you were seeing in this MV was them showing you which EXO-K member corresponded with which EXO-M member. For example, Suho (EXO-K) with the power of water corresponds with Xiumin (EXO-M) who has the power of frost/ice. Chanyeol (EXO-K) with the power of fire is Kris' (EXO-M) counterpart because he is the power of flight, and as you will see when you watch the EXO-M MV, Chanyeol has the power of the phoenix and Kris has the power of the dragon, which both animal spirits have fire elements and flight so they connect. D.O. (EXO-K) with the power of force is connected to Chen (EXO-M) with the power of thunder/lightning. And Sehun (EXO-K), who has the power of wind, is connected to Tao (EXO-M) who controls time. Baekhyun (K) with the power of light is connected to Lay (M) with the power of healing; and Kai (K) with teleportation is linked to Luhan (M) with the power of telekinesis, etc. That's how they maintain their bond even as members of separate groups. Also, the symbols you saw represent each of the members and it has to do with each of their powers. For instance, Kai's symbol is a pyramid and it represents teleportation, and Lay's symbol is a unicorn and it represents his power of healing, etc. (In future MVs and other things to do with EXO, when you see things like a pyramid, you know that is a reference to something to do with Kai, etc.) Even the most minute of details in EXO's content has something to do with their origin story and EXO's storyline. And, yes, during that screamo part, that was Kai. All the tattoos on Kai's face and body say EXO and also all of the EXO members names, or at least the 6 EXO-K members names, as well as EXO's symbol and other hidden clues to EXO's origin story. Each member in EXO-K also has a partner in EXO-M that fills the same role in their respective group. For example, Baekhyun is the main vocalist in EXO-K and Chen is the main vocalist in EXO-M; D.O. is the other main vocalist in K and Luhan was the other main vocalist in M; Chanyeol is the main rapper in K and Kris was the main rapper in M; Sehun is the lead rapper in K and Xiumin is the lead rapper in M; Kai is the main dancer in K and Lay is the main dancer in M; and then it's Suho is a lead vocalist in K and Tao was a rapper/vocalist in M (I'm not sure how these two really work together because Tao is more of a rapper and Suho is a vocalist, but because they are the last two they are put together.) You also need to pay attention to the lyrics for "Mama." The majority of the gregorian chant is in English: "Shoot anonymous, anonymous; Heartless, mindless; No one who care about me ... Careless, careless (Mama: Mama in Korean means Your Majesty); Shoot anonymous, anonymous (Mama); Heartless, mindless (Mama); No one who care about me (Mama)" Also, if you pay attention to what the whole song is talking about and what the lyrics mean it will give you even more insight into why EXO have been sent to Earth and what their mission is all about. EXO's storyline begins with them being sent to Earth to try and heal the world and to stop and prevent the Red Force from taking over and corrupting everything. And the story in the lyrics of "Mama" foreshadows what they will have to overcome and understand about humans and our world to accomplish their tasks. EXO kind of takes humanity to task and asks us to explain why we would allow all this anger and hatred to cloud everything around us and why we don't love each other more? It's really a very beautiful message and the more you learn about EXO the more interesting the whole thing becomes. In the song the members, being aliens from another planet, are struggling to understand how we as humans could allow all this evil and bad things to happen all around us, such as war, hatred and the destruction of the environment, etc. and they are daunted by the fact that they are now tasked with figuring out how to fix it all and prevent more evil from taking place. That's why they need to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them to restore peace. EXO's story is part supernatural and Sci-Fi and part based on reality, which touches on real life events and things that are really happening in the world. And from the very beginning, even during pre-debut days, and everything since then and everything yet to come, it all is connected to that storyline. Everything EXO does and everything you see from them, including Baekhyun's and Kai's parts in SuperM, all has something to do with the concept and story that began with "Mama," and each new installment of something from the members expands a little further on EXO's story. Whether it's an MV from the group, a solo project from one of the members, a sub-unit project, a live performance, teaser videos, concert VCRs, or even a good amount of their choreography, it all has been designed to connect to EXO's storyline.
No he doesn't have to watch the M version. It's not like it'll suddenly makes any sense anyway. A lot of people are just as confused. Also, pls make slightly shorter comment than this one. An explanation about their concept is great. But if it's too long it'll just make u annoying & bothersome. Not that many people likes reading extremely long paragraphs about fictional concept. Esp if they just started stanning the group. A little bit of advice here.
@@resurgingflame If you don't like the length of my comments you don't have to read them. I comment for those who want to read what I have to say. Just bcus u've a lot of time in ur hands to write & read something that's unnecessarily long, doesn't mean others is the same as well. There, I throw it back to u again. Long comments like this tends to be ignored bcus simply, people are busy. & they can't always pay attention & read everything. But I was just trying to make him comfortable in his journey with EXO. Not pressured him to know them & their long years of career right away. Make him know step by step so he'll rmmber. Comments like this usually makes reactors overwhelmed, cringe or even pressured. & I'm speaking this from experience after watching so many EXO & Kpop reactions. Keep it detailed with important infos but still short, that's just simply my advice.
@@resurgingflame Same to you. Your "advice" would be much better received if you learned how to do it with kindness and respect. I was only being blunt because that's how you chose to respond to my comment in the first place.
The shock on your face from not knowing that's Kai screamin' at you is EVERYTHING... Yes the MAMA track is different in sound from the styling you've heard. EXO is versatile. Hope you react to the updated Vocal Kings video. It has more solo performances. Have fun and enjoy your journey.
Thanks RJ. From the guides you already know how talented each member is, singing and otherwise...there's no question why they shot to superstardom in a short 2 years after debut...and "What Is Love" is a pre-debut song along with "History" mv, that came out in December 2011 as an introduction of this new group, Exo, to the public... before actual debut wiith "Mama" in 2012. "Mama" is just a testament to their concept...you've seen in each member's guides that they each have a superpower in said concept...Suho is water, D.O. is earth/force/power, Lay is healing, Baekhyun is light and so forth. And if you didn't know, here's their concept: Exo are aliens from another planet, their planet, Exoplanet. They are the forces that keep the Tree of Life active and alive, which keeps the universe in balance. The evil forces of the universe, The Red Force, found them...though they have been hidden...and killed the tree, which made them separate and flee to other planets. The Red Force want to covet these powers to use them to destroy life..while Exo uses their powers to protect and preserve life. As they keep fleeing, they come across Earth...and seeing all the death and turmoil on this planet, they all reunite on this Earth, in hopes of helping these humans, stopping the hate. And what better way to do that than by disguising themselves as humans...and at the time, being young themselves...the concept started with them, disguised as boys at a high school, (thus the gray school uniforms in the mv "Growl"), and then a bonus!...they have the ability to turn into wolves when angered, (as the mv "Wolf" brings out, and also "Growl", both a sort of warning of what they may do to you if you piss them off) In the meantime, they must keep their powers hidden, and The Red Force is always trying to turn them into bad humans, where they can manipulate them, so yes, The Red Force found them on Earth, and have been trying it's best to acquire these powers...and it's not easy, because it cannot take the powers away from them...only influence them, or drug them, trap them in a maze, deter them, invade their dreams, and tempt them with bad influences that humans know all too well...from bad love, money, alcohol, drugs...everything we ourselves fight to resist. So of course, every Exo mv has hidden meanings connecting all of them within this secret storyline, with The Red Force playing puppet master with tempting them, capturing them, separating them, using them against each other, invading their minds and sending them back to the group as a spy...you name it. Even Lay not being able to be with Exo is a part of the storyline, or at the very least, written into the story as the political situation occurred. But as complex as their conspiracy theories are, it makes my head spin....the red lighting, the cube, and the eclipse of the sun and moon play a part. But if you find the lyrics to "Mama", it's very dire. "Mama" means "Your Majesty" in Korean, and the lyrics suggest that they ask "your majesty", or the powers that be, likely of the universe...that "why are they on Earth"?.. it is full of death and destruction...humans cannot be saved...they do not talk to each other, they do not show, this supposed good quality "love" to each other, they only hate and destroy...and The Red Force is in full force on Earth...although Exo are disguised as humans, they don't know what love is, or human emotions, but the longer they remain in human form...the more they easily take on human traits, and they turn more into human beings, losing themselves, and in the process learn love, heartache, longing, losing love, sadness, compassion, but also along with hatred, possessiveness, anger, jealousy, envy, even drug and alcohol addiction, gambling, carefree love, and wanton mischief. Human traits indeed. So as off the wall as this concept is..and from the get go too..I thought, being there from 2011...actually got into kpop from 2006....but being there from the beginning of Exo, I thought, "wtf is up with these Koreans?" (no disrespect intended) "this concept ain't gonna fly"....but it took off! People were intrigued.. And so was I. I gave it a go... And damned if it didn't grow into a worldwide phenomenon for Exo, and at such a young age! Superstars off the bat! And the public, worldwide mind you, ate it up! But more than anything...the vocals, the vocals were being talked about from debut on. As well as I.. Fell in love with the vocals, regardless of the concept, which frankly I do not follow, I just know their powers...but connecting everything is way over my head. There are those that keep track of that stuff, I mean in great detail, they write essays of these theories....but I can't... So RJ, that is a long-winded, SHORT version of Exo's concept. Take it as you will...but let's just appreciate the vocals, together. It's undeniable. They had this talent way back in grade school, which is the time they were discovered too, back in school days....going to school and keeping it a secret that they were trainees from classmates. Exo are another level. 💙🌺
Omg you reacted to MAMA !! THE ROCK OPERA ANTHEM OF KPOP !! I can’t even tell you how well this song aged. Fun fact: do you know the song uses Led zepplin Kashmir’s riff? BEST DEBUT ever in the Kpop history. Prove me wrong. And yeah they were singing live :) I know right? (Obviously the dance break Kai’s death metal chant & the Gregorian chanting is backing vocals, as you could see but the rest of the song was live) EXO’s vocals are so great it gets everyone. RJ thank you for your amazing reaction, as always :)
Oh and before I forget, Another interesting thing about EXO is their concept is space and supernatural beings, and usually most of their mv releases are always based on dates that an eclipse will happen in real life because in their concept an eclipse has something to do with their powers as well.
OK, So now you have to watch the EXO-M versions of these two to get the full picture of their debut. Plus both K &M versions of “History” (their other pre-debut song). P.S. the expression on your face when Kai started screaming was PRICELESS
I'm a fullpledge Shawol but i do acknowledge that Exo was Legend since day 1 of their debut, SHINee debuted with the iconic Replay meanwhile Exo debut powerfully...they are born to be Legend. Sm really did a good job when it come's to their artist genre on debut.Exo debut's as legend and no matter who is famous today or tommorrow, noone can argue that Exo is Legend and their name is already written on Korea's history ... one of the best Group then until now...😊
''Mama'' was the song that opened me a new world, I still remember how surprised and amazed was when I saw the MV !!! Everytime I rewatch it, I'm laughing because of their hairstyle , EXO was the transition from 2nd to 3rd generation of kpop, they brought a lot of new elements and mixed it with the old ones.
One of my favorite things about EXO is their never ending complex Alien with super power concept :) for almost 10 years next year they have been carrying it effortlessly and everything they release like teaser, concert vcr, award show acts and even solo projects are linked to it plus their amazing vocal talents and skills is just cherry on top of the icing of a perfect cake😉 and lol don't get me started with Exo and their cakes😅🤧
The title song MAMA includes Gregorian chants joined with powerful orchestra sounds..it's rare for a rookie group to have debut with such a distinctive song with a unique concept..the choreo is amazing especially the formation shifts its so well done
Yes, EXO used to be divided in to 2 subgroups, Exo-K & Exo-M so that’s why there are 12 of them and the 3 current members you didn’t get to see much here are, Xiumin, Chen & Lay (because they’re in Exo-M) and the other 3 that you don’t recognise was the ex-members Kris, Luhan & Tao (also members of Exo-M)
EXO ...since their pre - debut and then debut they flexing their vocals ..........MAMA official debut song is another level they are in their times ahead .....truly EXO vocals are out of this world ......Vocal LEGENDS .........EXO ❤
Kpop groups performing in the rain happens more than you think. Plus, EXO are experts at performing in the rain or in water. Once you see some more of their live concert performances you will discover that they even have a giant rain machine for indoor concerts where they get just as wet and they do it on purpose as part of the performance. (Suho's superpower is the ability to control water, so he is the one that make it rain. LOL) The live performance of "Mama" in the rain was at an SMTown concert, so not only were EXO performing, but all of SM's artists perform at this concert. So not only are EXO fans at the concert, but fans of all of SM's artist and groups are there. That is one of the reasons why this concert was held at an outdoor stadium because they had to have a venue that was large enough to hold all the fans that wanted to attend this concert. For SM stans, SMTown concerts are the holy grail of concerts. You get to see all your favorite artists and performances in one concert. SM usually holds an end of the year SMTown concert every year. SMTown concerts are extra fun because it's a great way to see all of SM's groups and artists all at one concert. Normally each group will perform 2 or 3 of their most iconic or newest songs, etc. and then we also get unique collaboration performances with members from different groups. SMTown collaboration performances are often performances that you will never see anywhere else, so it makes for an extra fun element to these concerts. SMTown concerts are also often part of a tour, so they also perform all over the world giving fans a chance to see SM artists traveling together. Performing in the rain isn't that uncommon. They often have summer music festivals were Kpop artists and singers from all agencies, many different groups, and artists from all different generations perform all together. And because these are such large concerts that attract fans of all generations and fandoms they have to hold them at really big places, which are often outdoor stadiums, so when it rains a lot of groups end up having to perform in the rain. There is a lot of footage of Kpop groups performing in the rain. Just search "Kpop concert in the rain, " for example, and you will find a whole list. As an example, here is a short compilation video including other groups, such as SHINee, EXO, BTS, Red Velvet, F(x),Twice, etc., performing in the rain at all times of day and night, th-cam.com/video/95Wm6SSgs8Q/w-d-xo.html. They pretty much plan the same performance regardless of the conditions, you see very few, if any, modifications to their performances if it happens to rain, compared to a performance on a day when the conditions are perfect. Idols will often tell stories about how they have had their mics malfunction because they got too wet during a rainstorm at an outdoor concert. Unless there is lightning, the show will go on no matter the conditions. Kpop artists perform in the rain because they feel obligated to give us their best no matter the conditions, afterall, we fans love them so much we are willing to stand in the middle of that same downpour to see them -- I guarantee that venue was still full to capacity despite the rain. Fans just come prepared with raincoats and umbrellas and they brave the conditions. :D
Even if you notice all their songs are strong since the beginning of their debut, it was Mama's song in 2012. They were young at the time, they did not exceed the age of 20, but the company gave them a strong song, although they were beginners, but look at their voices. They performed it professionally. "The songs of other groups like the debut song to be nice, refreshing and light, but EXO had a strong character
EXO's live vocals are really amazing that you'll doubt if they're singing live or not 🔥 so excited to your upcoming reactions especially those with live ones ♥
If u love D.O, listen to Exo's Sweet Lies and his duet with his vocal coach Tell Me What Is Love.. and pls pls listen to his bsides I'm Fine and My Love from his Empathy solo album
the MAMA under the rain performance was kinda live i guess? but with heavy backtrack. you can hear Chen's voice at 11:42 the "haomaaaa" part which is much louder was actually the backtrack. the "haaaaaaaaaa" part with higher note that sounds like the backtrack was Chen's live voice.
I am so excited! Glad you looked just as SHOOK as I did when I first heard these songs. I hope you react to the MAMA album because it is amazing, as is all of their albums. EDIT: Also would like an album review because EXO lyrics are also so amazing. I really love the lyrics to MAMA. Basically aliens from another planet come to earth and see how awful humans are to each other and can't understand why we are the way we are. Also the lyrics to What is love and the vocals made me legit fall in love.
they're not singing live during that live performances (mama & what is love), i don't know why sm didn't allow them but yeah, they're still amazing. Stan legends, stan Exo
Hi RJ. Yay, FINALLY!!. Quite a song, isn't it?! The harmonies, the genre-bending! At the metal section, their debut year and the names of their unit are written on Kai. In answer to your question about numbers, this was when EXO had two units: EXO-K (Korean) and EXO-M (Chinese). The MV you watched was the Korean unit (my fav), showing the superpowers these members hold. The Mama EXO-M MV shows the superpowers of the China members. You can see the two units interacting a bit in each other's video. This is the EXO origin story, and many say the probable beginning to the SM Universe. In Korean, Mama means leader or similar, so they are singing to the leader who sent them to these worlds. Yes, that's baby Kai at center and baby Baekhyun. The moment this song dropped, I knew these guys would be spectacular over the years! Probably my 2nd favorite debut song behind SHINee's Replay. Edit: Yeah, though it creates quite a visual, I don't like when idols have to perform in slippery conditions. The performance was a combination of live and pre-recorded vocals.
The vocal king video don't shine all members in fact Kyungsoo (D.O.) is one of the most affected in that video, if you want to know more about his vocals you will have to watch an individual video of him, I recommend the ones from the brightsoo channel
Thank you for reacting to these amazing MVs and performances.. Please keep reacting to EXO..There are too many awesome performances thay you've not seen.
People have given you a lot of information here so I won't try and add to that or restate. Yes, it's a lot. I usually compare getting into EXO and their storyline to falling in love with a very long comic book series. The plots are involved and revealed over long periods of time through many episodes/issues. There are villains and superheroes and great peril. And sometimes, you have to rejig or reimagine or retcon your storyline because circumstances change. But the power and message they are trying to communicate is very deep and fans get very invested. It's a really lovely thing. And, yes, performing on a stage in the rain is a bit dangerous and performers (EXO and others) have certainly slipped. They do what they can to mitigate the weather but SMTown are huge concerts that are often held in open air stadiums totally packed with fans. The artists go out to deliver their show rain or shine and the audience stands in the pouring rain to hear them. And EXO have performed in the pouring rain many many times and they will pull back on their dance moves just a bit to manage it as best they can. Think professional football players or the like, they just get on with it :D
MAMA was one of the biggest reason why there's so many "Illuminati" accusations in KPop before, it was really hilarious whenever i think about it now🤣🤣
"That was epic" spot on RJ. The storyline explains very well the need to have an EXOK and EXOM. Alike but different, same sky but different land. Apart but when together they bring life!!!. I miss those EXOL days
Im smiling here like crazy cause Ive been obssessed with What is love ever since I have first heard it and Mama is the most epic, wild and beautiful song ever in my opinion... so good to see you enjoying both songs so much! :D
Mama is definitely one of the most unique debuts out there! I'm always waiting for the "and then the fire nation attacked" with the animated intro. Your face when the gregorian chant started! I have to say, it's actually still one of my favourites from EXO. Very few groups have a vocal line as strong as ChenBaekSoo and they really show it here. They did have two predebut songs with mvs, What Is Love and History I think but Mama was the official debut. An EXO-L would know the details better than me. Yes that was DO! Everyone is always shocked by Kai's random screamo section haha You can see how they would have attracted a lot of attention with their debut, they were so different from what else was going on with SM. For context Super Junior had just gone viral again with Mr Simple, SNSD were making their hard push in the west with The Boys, SHINee had just come out with the massively successful Sherlock and f(x) was finally getting some real success with Pinocchio and Hot Summer. YG was also having an amazing run with 2NE1's I Am The Best and BiGBANG's Fantastic Baby. This was also the year of PSY's Gangnam Style though that was later in 2012 I think. So here come EXO trying to find their lane amongst these monsters and pretty much immediately blow up as the biggest thing in the industry with their own unique sound. They dominated as the number one BG for years, I remember all of the debates that raged over EXO vs BTS later on. If things with the China line had been different, who knows what the kpop landscape would look like today?
exo and super junior are one of the two greatest, talented, with some of the best main and famous vocalists, popular from all over Asia, that's why they don't do so many tours in Latin America and the United States for all the concerts they have, they wanted to be exhausted and exhausted by that I think that SM entertains created super M to demonstrate the powerful and super talented idols that it has, it is said that there was casting choosing the best-selling members with their solo albums for example: exo's baekhyun and exo's kai and the boys from nct .love exo a lot.
exo started with the storytelling through MVs in kpop. before, each comeback had a different concept unrelated to the previous. they are always cited as an example in unique concept and construction.
Mama starts with Gregorian chanting. What is love is the member crash landing on earth. They are finding their symbols and members because when they landed they were spread out. The eclipse is when their powers are most powerful so they knew they’d be ok in an unfamiliar place until they found each other. 😊
Also yes you were right that MAMA was their official debut. What is Love and History were their pre debut songs. Sorry I am just so excited to see EXO reactions, I am obviously a multistan but EXO will always be my Ult and first love.
I thought Wolf was the song they chose to debut with even though they came out around the same time? Wolf is probably my least favorite EXO title track though😅
Thank you for reacting to and appreciating EXO and for caring about their safety more than their own company. MAMA is the weirdest most epic kpop debut. EXO were so brave to debut with that MV and ONLY THEY could pull it off. When you know the lyrics it takes it to a whole new level. It's about the negative effects of technology on real life interactions. What is Love is a timeless MASTERPIECE. Foetus Kyungsoo's and Baekhyun's vocals are actually INSANE. I will never forgive my co-Ls for sleeping on it. Subscribed for EXO. Hope you will do many more EXO reactions in the future. I recommend Suho's Self Portrait lives.
This is exactly the reason why I can never unstan EXO. You can't find a Kpop group out there who flexed their vocals as hard as EXO did. And this was all from their predebut era. Just imagine their growth. ✨ This just proves EXO are born to be on stage. They just have the TALENT from the very beginning. ❣️
Thank you for this ! You know wednesday became my favorite day because it's EXO's day on your channel ! And you're right in your guesses of who's who here and glad you got the same feels on MAMA and What is Love. MAMA for me is different but in a good way and what is love gives nostalgic feels. Keep it going, we're here to support you ! Love from PH ❤
What is love is the best predebut mv and Mama is the best debut MV. Omg that is what is love from exo showcase 2012 (first time SM showing exo to the world on stage)
‘What is love’ is a pre debut song for god’s sake😭😭😭 I listen to it like 4 times a week honestly since I got into EXO. Also EXO’s harmonisation is the best in Kpop. EXO’s concept is so epic as you can see from their debut ‘Mama’ up till now. They got the vocals, visuals, dance, performance, charisma, concept and that’s why they’re my only and ultimate. I’m amazed by them every single time even though I listen and watch them everyday.
Plz do a reaction of their 1st album Mama, it’s my all time favorite. I think you will love the track Angel as you’re a DO’s bias *wink. History mv is legendary too.
Wait until you see "Wolf" 😅 MAMA is their debut song which is an introduction to the group and their superpowers. EXO is actually the first group ever with a storyline and if you check out the lyrics to MAMA, you will be amazed by how meaningful they are. Yes that was live. EXO are not called Vocal Kings for nothing ❤
I remember the first song I heard about EXO was Monster, and yes I did like it, but I wasn't completely into them. 3 or 4 days after the first song, I decided to give it another try, so I was going to listen to overdose, but somehow What is love got my attention and ended up listening to that song. And yep, that is the song that Brought me to EXO. I love this song. 💞 still one of my favorites along with black pearl, cloud nine, and now Runaway. 💕
Finally...RJ's journey of EXO reactions after the guides 😁 And you'd picked a bias, that's cool, unlike me that had no bias after being an EXO-L since dec 2019. Well they said, if you can have 9 why do you choose only one 😅 Mama is their debut, the one you saw was EXO-K version and the stage was mix that's why there's chen, xiumin and tao took part in the song. "What is love" is their predebut singles together with "history". Maybe you can see EXO-M in your own time to hear their chinese version and the rest of the members voices in EXO-M. Can wait to see more of your reaction on EXO. Thanks RJ
Actually WHAT IS LOVE & HISTORY are the first 2 predebut songs of EXO before they released the actual debut song MAMA. And most of the early Mv's of EXO has a chinese version since Exo-K & Exo-M units are present, you can see Exo-M members perform the song in mandarin so you better check that out specially the MAMA chinese were you can see the Exo-M members powers. Please watch their mv's in chronological order.
If you check out their mr removed live version you’ll realize that yes. They are singing live. But in most of the cases when they perform a song with heavy dance they don’t do the chorus part. It’s the background music. But all the adlibs and high notes are freaking real and live. So basically 80% of the performance is live and rest of the 20% are played in the background so that they can also focus on the dance performance. Also during that heavy metal part. Tho kai is on the center. He was not singing alone. Chanyeol and sehun was harmonizing at the back. I hope one day you’ll also check out the lyrics of the song mama. The lyrics itself is a masterpiece.❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@resurgingflame usually they use the same mr in all the performances in case it's not the remix or a different version (such as the metal ver. one/concert version). But it's up to you to believe. It's ok if you don't think it's live. I won't argue with you. Peace ✌️
@@Protest_Pulse I'm not arguing or just believing tho. I'm merely stating facts. It's NOT possible to have such a clear audio quality during raining on that Mama performance. Not to mention when it's stopped for a moment during Kai's metal rap, u can hear there's only very little sound coming eventho his mouth keeps moving. That WiL performance is just so obvious. The exact same quality with the MV audio proved that clearly. Idk why a lot of kpop fans have this weird obsession over idols lipsyncing & being in big denial if they did it. Y'know it's perfectly okay for them to do it & for us to admit it right? They've done this plenty of times in their career. & I mean not just them, but ALL kpop groups did this. For a good reason.
@@resurgingflame um..that audio quality is clear because it's an official recording and not a fancam. In fancam, you can hear what the audiences are hearing. in official recording you'll hear what they're delivering in the mic (not to mention editing out the crowd noise). Also this is why their live cds sound so flawless. I hope i could explain clearly. But why are you ranting tho. Chill it's just a 6/7year old performance. You don't have to be worked up over this.😅
One thing about Kyungsoo, if you put him on an R&B track, he will sing you into a grave.
Yup confirmed by his solo album EMPATHY
THIS comment!!!!
Can't believe that this is a pre debut song. Exo already flexing their insane vocals! thanks RJ!
D.O. is collecting all the fanboys at this point 🔥
Same
You only heard D.O doing high notes in early days, not anymore soon EXO became 9 and no more EXO K and M.
He still does high notes in recent years, just not as high as before bcus of his vocal coordination.
D.O Is gifted with a rare yet very appealing vocal timbre that everybody can't help but really enjoy and like
He literally did the same high note in DFTF and the side track No Matter (C5) as he did in Mama and What Is Love. he still does the same high notes lol idk what you’re talking about
Dude, 2-3 songs don't count on this conversation.
The first one is a live version at a radio station with Ryewook th-cam.com/video/Jt0ufq3bqEI/w-d-xo.html and the second is a live during an SM concert. th-cam.com/video/VXmBe1rEXwU/w-d-xo.html
Yoo Young Jin is the most famous producer at SM and known for his R&B style.
Yes!! Moonlight with D.O. and Baekhyun is pure heaven! T_T
Yeahhh so happy D.O. is RJ's bias because he is also my ult bias in EXO🥰 and yesss Moonlight is one of the best songs from them!!🥹
Is anyone else DYING for a D.O./Baekhyun duet album?? Think JUS2 FOCUS, but with THESE VOCAL KINGS!!
A D.O. and Baekhyun collab would shook the kpop industry
Yaii.. Love the hint to JUS2 😉 GOT7 and EXO are my Ult groups 😊 A Baekhyun and Kyungsoo duo would actually SLAY 🔥🔥
But the whole Focus album is a masterpiece, but it is JayB and Yugyeom so how can it not.. I hope you'll listen to more GOT7 you wont regret it..
EXO was my first group and I will always cherish them so much, they are an Ult group, but GOT7 is my Ult Ult.. I have 3 Ult groups 🤣
@@TrineMortensen I will def make time for some GOT7-I usually don’t fully get into a group until I fall in love with an album, so next time I blast my coworkers or friends with kpop I’ll try something new😎 It’s so weird being a 36 year old and getting into the new generation of groups like JUSTB or ENHYPEN when the members are basically still teenagers😅 I need to spend more time on the backlog of older groups (not that any of the members are older than me😹)
The next album I am dying to hear is Kai’s new one🔥His first solo is def one of my favorites if not my #1❤️🔥
Don't be nervous cuz dancing in a water is a piece of cake for exo..
That's the fact.
D.O. is known as the R&B king of kpop actually. he does in fact have the best vocal agility (ability to do vocal runs etc.) in all of kpop and through exo’s various r&b tracks they released over the years, he showed off his skills.
For example, Baekhyun is the main vocalist in EXO-K and Chen is the main vocalist in EXO-M; D.O. is the other main vocalist in K and Luhan was the other main vocalist in M; Chanyeol is the main rapper in K and Kris was the main rapper in M; Sehun is the lead rapper in K and Xiumin is the lead rapper in M; Kai is the main dancer in K and Lay is the main dancer in M; and then it's Suho is a lead vocalist in K and Tao was a rapper/vocalist in M (I'm not sure how these two really work together because Tao is more of a rapper and Suho is a vocalist, but because they are the last two they are put together.)
You also need to pay attention to the lyrics for "Mama." The majority of the gregorian chant is in English: "Shoot anonymous, anonymous; Heartless, mindless; No one who care about me ...
Proud EXO-L here. You said everything I wanted to type out 🥰
No he doesn't have to watch the M version.

Just bcus u've a lot of time in ur hands to write & read something that's unnecessarily long, doesn't mean others is the same as well. There, I throw it back to u again.
Long comments like this tends to be ignored bcus simply, people are busy. & they can't always pay attention & read everything. Not to mention he also has hundreds of comments from other videos as well. Have some sensibility & logic for a bit.

Exo were always bomb. They were unstoppable and still today they are kings.
their live stages and performance never ever dispointed me 😭🥰. i miss them together 😭😭😭
Baekhyun trained only months and SANG LIKE THAT. Now he is even better.
Best vocalist indeed
You're literally everywhere saying that lmao
What Is Love? is one of the best R&B tracks ever in any country, any language, by any group, at any time. I said what I said.
The way kyungsoo styles up the song makes him stand out
And if you didn't know, here's their concept:
Exo are aliens from another planet, their planet, Exoplanet.
And what better way to do that than by disguising themselves as humans...and at the time, being young themselves...the concept started with them, disguised as boys at a high school, (thus the gray school uniforms in the mv "Growl"), and then a bonus!...they have the ability to turn into wolves when angered, (as the mv "Wolf" brings out, and also "Growl", both a sort of warning of what they may do to you if you piss them off)
In the meantime, they must keep their powers hidden, and The Red Force is always trying to turn them into bad humans, where they can manipulate them, so yes, The Red Force found them on Earth, and have been trying it's best to acquire these powers...and it's not easy, because it cannot take the powers away from them...only influence them, or drug them, trap them in a maze, deter them, invade their dreams, and tempt them with bad influences that humans know all too well...from bad love, money, alcohol, drugs...everything we ourselves fight to resist.
💙🌺
so happy to see u watching our EXO. Please continue. We'll support u .
You can see that they already have impressive vocals pre-debut. They have improved so much since then. They don't make groups like EXO anymore.
Sm really did a good job when it come's to their artist genre on debut.Exo debut's as legend and no matter who is famous today or tommorrow, noone can argue that Exo is Legend and their name is already written on Korea's history ... one of the best Group then until now...😊
Please check out D.O. ft Yoo Young Jin (his vocal coach) - tell me what is love. You'll love him more and more 😍
''Mama'' was the song that opened me a new world, I still remember how surprised and amazed was when I saw the MV !!!
Baekhyun is for me the best singer of Kpop right now
Yes, EXO used to be divided in to 2 subgroups, Exo-K & Exo-M so that’s why there are 12 of them
and the 3 current members you didn’t get to see much here are, Xiumin, Chen & Lay (because they’re in Exo-M) and the other 3 that you don’t recognise was the ex-members Kris, Luhan & Tao (also members of Exo-M)
Their debut and pre-debut songs are so iconic !
Now you falling in love with their vocals ❤️❤️🤭
EXO ...since their pre - debut and then debut they flexing their vocals ..........MAMA official debut song is another level they are in their times ahead .....truly EXO vocals are out of this world ......Vocal LEGENDS .........EXO ❤
Your face when Kai's part in mama started was priceless lmaooo
Kpop groups performing in the rain happens more than you think. Plus, EXO are experts at performing in the rain or in water. Once you see some more of their live concert performances you will discover that they even have a giant rain machine for indoor concerts where they get just as wet and they do it on purpose as part of the performance. (Suho's superpower is the ability to control water, so he is the one that make it rain. LOL)
The live performance of "Mama" in the rain was at an SMTown concert, so not only were EXO performing, but all of SM's artists perform at this concert.
I can understand that. Always makes me nervous though😫
The word you're looking is "superior orchestra"
Iykyk 🤣
Kyungsoo supremacy!!
Yup since the beginning EXO has been killing it with the vocals, dancing and visuals :)
everyone is shocked by MAMA and What is Love? is one of my favorites from exo!
Yes that was a live performance. This Version of What is Love is PRE- DEBUT
I love how you recognize all of them now 🖤
Me too haha
Did you just asked if they were singing live? OF COURSE!
Así fue como empezamos muchos, viendo estos dos videos, quedamos enganchados, estaban tan chiquis, desde el principio me encantó la voz de Kyungsoo
they're not singing live during that live performances (mama & what is love), i don't know why sm didn't allow them but yeah, they're still amazing.
"Mama" mean majesty/highness, as in "your majesty" or "your highness". Not exactly means "leader".
@@resurgingflame Thanks so much for the correction. I appreciate it. :)
EVERYTIME I LISTEN TO THIS SONGS MANY MEMORIES WOKE ME UP
yep "MAMA" is their debut song and "What is love?" is one of their pre-debut songs
Mama forever legendary debut and most expensive too with 22 teasers alone 😎
The Fetus EXO, slaying before on their debutes and still slaying till now.....that's EXO, no one else, fight me, lol!
I really love ur reactionnnn😍
D.O is my bias too. Hope u react to more exo song and also their concert
What is love was my first exo song I listen i always got goosebumps last part of beakhyun high note . That time was when beakhyun become my ult bias 💕
We are one EXO😘😘😍😍😍😍😘😘strong vocal
I'm glad you watched that performance of MAMA! Tao was still there 😭
i love what is love so much...
Everyone is always shocked by Kai's random screamo section haha
You can see how they would have attracted a lot of attention with their debut, they were so different from what else was going on with SM.
YES....the kings of KPOP🌍 EXO 🤴
To answer your question, yes that is exo singing live. They wouldn't be the nations vocalists if they only lipsync, now would they.
EXO pride is always singing live, even when they have the minus one playing in the back, they will still sing live on top of the track.
i think i can know diffrent between them past and now.they really progress a lot
im so exited about it😍🥰
exo started with the storytelling through MVs in kpop. before, each comeback had a different concept unrelated to the previous. they are always cited as an example in unique concept and construction.
@@ONLYBRITTA Wolf was on the next album XOXO with Growl. Wolf grew on me but the live remix version is amazing, especially the vocals!
The production of Mama is reminiscent of Queen who did a similar choral style with Bohemian Rhapsody.
This just proves EXO are born to be on stage.
Mama's lyrics are just amazing
I ran a marathon with all your reactions to Exo,love it all, hope you can react to
EXO PLANET #3 The EXO'rDIUM in Seoul MAMA + Monster + 늑대와 미녀(Wolf)
Yes pls
Plz do a reaction of their 1st album Mama, it’s my all time favorite. I think you will love the track Angel as you’re a DO’s bias *wink. History mv is legendary too.
Wait until you see "Wolf" 😅
MAMA is their debut song which is an introduction to the group and their superpowers.
I am proud of them
They always sing live. Its just too good you cant seem to believe it but yeah
Finally...RJ's journey of EXO reactions after the guides 😁
And you'd picked a bias, that's cool, unlike me that had no bias after being an EXO-L since dec 2019. Well they said, if you can have 9 why do you choose only one 😅
Mama is their debut, the one you saw was EXO-K version and the stage was mix that's why there's chen, xiumin and tao took part in the song. "What is love" is their predebut singles together with "history". Maybe you can see EXO-M in your own time to hear their chinese version and the rest of the members voices in EXO-M. Can wait to see more of your reaction on EXO. Thanks RJ
Exo-M forever precious in my heart 💕
Yess, Exo again thank you. Waiting for Your reaction to EXO live performance
Amazing vocals
Yaas EXO 😍 Thank you for the reaction!
That particular Mama & What Is Love performances aren't live tho. But that's okay.
