When you’re dealing with cheap, decent quality suspension air forks, I find to get the best performance out of them, you need to run them stiff, or almost to the point that when you sit on the bike, there’s little to no sag in the fork. The fork will still absorb the heavy impacts, which is all you really want. Also right when you get the fork, if you possess the mechanical ability, take them apart. You’ll find a lot of the cheap forks don’t come with ‘foam dust seal rings’. So add some foam rings, grease and lube up the forks, run them stiff, and I promise you that you’ll have some forks that will be durable and be able to withstand light to medium trails, and even some more advanced technical black trails from time to time.

You can use a small zip tie to release the built up air in the lowers by sliding a zip tie between the stanchions and dust wipes slide it down till you hear the air release and that should fix the stiction problem

Picked up a Huffy Amara last week for under $300 from the Huffy website with a fathers day discount. It's honestly kind of crazy what it offers at that price. After installing a budget rear air shock the ride has tightened up and it performs way over it's price tag. I don't think I've seen you guys test that model out yet. Might be worth checking out for the channel considering the price tag.

I would guess either the damper was in way over its head, or the factory grease/lube (probably little to none on a $100 fork) went away causing significant stiction..... my money is on stiction. If air did build up in the lowers causing a secondary air spring, then that would be pretty bad as that would mean that a seal failed somewhere and in just 1/2 of a ride.

Modern forks only have a dust wiper. No oil/air seal. Anything that leaks out the air spring pretty much leaks out the dust seal. The new fork lowers with bleeder valve is just for equalizing those pressures faster when doing rapid decent's with a lot of elevation change in a short period of time.

Still amazed at how different that black trail looks on camera vs in person. That trail was tough! Great job!

Nice test I found with these cheap air forks I put a little slickoleium grease on the stanchions and work it in before every ride and they work much better because they are only greased inside and they hang up and stick with a lot of friction so greasing the stanchions with a little grease before every ride really helps tremendously.

It might be ik with it but repeated use I don't know how dependable it will be

One thing I've noticed with these budget forks out of the box they arent well lubricated and often they dont have proper amount of oil out in them
This obviously causes premature wear and eventual failure.
But again, they arent intended for agressive trail/enduro/DH.
But I've put bikes together for kids using these forks and kids under the age of 12 usually get away using these cause they are light.
Anyway, cool too see its not completly destroyed lol.
Hayes creek looks like it would be a riot on my slayer.

I wonder if working a cheap fork (that probably has cheap lube in it) that hard made it overheat the bushings and the lube melted? I’ve seen cheap forks have the bushes swell and grab the stanchion… maybe that has happened here due to heat generated by friction.

Phew! You scared me for a sec that you were wearing that camera that flew & spun. I dunno about the type of riding you do but seems a decent $100 investment for someone, like me, that uses their bike mostly for on road transportation.

Nice real time review and my guess is score will be around 25. It did good on the green trail but was overmatched on the black diamond trail. I really really enjoyed the slow mo of the Tick putting on his chest protector, waiting for the OnlyForks version of that...dang it, emoji's not working for me.

You mention Mt Nebo so much that I definitely want to ride there some day(Cat's meow all the way). That after I ride all the Bentonville trails 👍.(Would love to watch a video of you trying one of your bikes in Bentonville).

We got to ride them at the meet-up last year. Cat's Meow is at a trail system near Hot Springs (Waterworks). Mt. Nebo has Three C's, Miller's Goat, and Haye's Creek.

Hello from Sweden! I really like your video, and my budget build is to some extent based on your tests😃 A question regarding the A12 derailleur. I had this on my bike, and it shifts really nice, but when I have it in a high gear and stop the chain slacks quite a bit. I'm very new to mtb so maybe this is normal. But then I decided to try the new LtWoo TX12, and that one is amazing, and it has dual action shift as well. I cannot find that you have tested this one, I would live to see you test it. All the best!

What a beautiful trails ...... trails here in Miami are an embarrassment to mountain biking. I hate all these stupid trails but there are no more options. Trails here feel like a half assed afterthought from a person whom hates mountain bikes and people.

is it air getting trapped ? or the damper is just overwelhmed as soon as it has to deal with repeated impacts ?
