    I watched your video about a year ago and did not get a chance to comment. So I ran across your video again and wanted to add my 2 cents. You did a very good job of explaining everything and you didn't over do it. You may have practice explaining how to learn things. Anyway Great Job, Keep it up. And Thanks.

    What an awesome video! Very helpful! I was looking for a used blade for my x500 and all the blades I come across are missing certain linkage pieces and I didn't know why. Now with the great info you provided I know why the linkages are gone on these used setups. You've really opened my eyes before I bought something accidentally that wasn't complete! Thank you!

    You have a real talent for teaching. I don’t have any mechanic experience and was able to follow your video step by step and get my tractor ready for this snow storm. You’re really helping people, thank you!

    Foggy, I just bought an old x320 and feel very much better about understanding how it all works thanks to you. I plan to install a front blade so this particular video together with the one the lift assist were super. As others have mentioned you have a great way of explaining it all. I also liked the one on tire chains too. Thanks

    Thank you for your informative video. My X300 is identical to yours, and I have the same blade along with the 44" blower. I've never had any issues with the rear linkage, but in preparation for this winter season, I discovered that I had with a missing pin on the rear linkage at the connection point with the rock shaft. With the aid of your video, I was able to reinstall the linkage with the proper orientation, with the adjustable end at the rear rather than facing forward. Your video was a big help!

    That’s the problem with mine. Bought the same tractor almost still brand new. They didn’t have a mower deck on when I bought but did have a plow. The guy I got it from put a brand new deck on it but when he took the plow stuff off I guess he didn’t give me all the parts. I have the rock shaft still installed but the smaller arm link and the black bracket is missing. Now it’s snowing I don’t have the plow working 🤦🏻‍♂️ still a good mower and I’ll have to track down the parts. Thanks, you helped me figure it out!

    Great job! Just picked up a 320. Was curious about the plow. Thanks for showing us how to hook it up! Let’s not forget the spring idea to hold the pin back. Genius!

    Outstanding video, really appreciate you posting it! I just bought what I think is this exact model, a 2011 X300, and the craftsman bracket & blade aren't compatible so this really helps out. Thanks!!

    Enjoyed this video. Bought an X300 and it must have the rockshaft already installed so this helped me figure that out. Mine has the spring kit because I have a 48" deck. Works slick.

    Good demonstation. And you could have mentioned the 4 weights available that sit on the rear bracket. I'm in New Hampshire and the tire chains are a necessity for me, but the weights are really the icing on the cake! [I have the 44" blower and the X370 which has hydraulic lift for mower & blower as well as power steering]. The X370 was a nice upgrade from my 14 year old D100 with manual everything. Bought the D100 new and never had any trouble with it; so it sold on Craigslist in only 6 hours !!!

  • @hobbycow5346

    I have a 2008 X300 48" deck and the blade kit. IMPORTANT! The directions have the tension spring direction backwards! it tells you to turn the spring the wrong way sending the nut the wrong way. Instead of clockwise, you have to rotate the nut counterclockwise to send the indicator nut toward the back of the tractor. Once I figured that out, The blade tension was perfect, and worked as intended.
    It's also nice that most of the basic mechanisms installed don't have to come off for summer cutting. Only the blade, mount and linkage rod come off....whew. Otherwise, it would have been a major pain.
    I'm still working on getting the rear tire chains on in under an hour though...they are a major PIA.

    Thank you for posting this video. I had to purchase the piece parts from the JD dealer and there were no instructions. The problem I am having is the pedal seems to be workinp in reverse. Pushing it forward drops the blade rather than lifting it. Any ideas?

    Great video.Thanks! I have the X300 and am considering getting the blade. Questions: 1.) Does John Deere still sell the blade kit? I didn't see it listed on their website. 2.) Is it necessary to remove the mower deck when you install/use the blade? If so, how difficult is it to remove/re-install the mower deck? Thanks, again!

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if the blade kit is still available. The best thing to do is find a dealer and ask. The deck needs to be removed to use the blade, and it comes off easily.

  • @masonmills9282
    @masonmills9282 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Question: can you detail what parts are able to stay on the tractor when you reinstall the cutting deck in the spring vs what parts must come off?

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most parts stay on the tractor. The only things you have to remove are the blade, it's front mounting bracket, and the linkage from the rock shaft to the front mounting bracket. The rock shaft (up under the frame) and it's components all stay on the tractor. They do not interfere with the mower deck.

    that tractor going to be heavy enough to push heavy snow? seems like it wont? just wondering. i have a craftsman garden tractor from 1996 with a 20.5 twin . 6 speed hi lo with Ag tires out back with chains and weights. this thing will push some heavy stuff. nice video. i will step up to the 500 series for snow plowing. yours may be ok. here in nj i dont know. we got 30" 2 weeks ago..

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  3 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @konrad1853

    Do those mounting parts come with the blade or are they already part of the mechanism for the mower deck? In other words, if I already have a 48" deck, will just buying the blade be enough?

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't really give you a straightforward answer on that. I believe you would have to buy a kit to install the blade (the rockshaft, links, etc), but I also believe you can buy each separately. The rock shaft and linkage are not part of the lift mechanism for the blade. Mine didn't have any of that stuff. You'll have to look at your tractor and see if the rock shaft is already installed. It will be poking out of the left side of the frame, just forward of the lift pedal. If it's already there, you're good. You'll just need the front blade, the black bracket that attaches it to the tractor, and a link to run from the rock shaft to the blade bracket.

  • @MightyGazebo

    Thank you for this! At 13:31 you install the "front link". I'm missing that part (previous owner didn't supply yet swears he gave me everything...) and have searched JD's website for a replacement, but I've yet to find one. It looks like something I could get at a hardware store but I don't know what it would be called. Any suggestions?

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I think you could make a front link out of hardware store parts pretty easily. I have seen the ends come in various sizes in the fasteners sections, and I think they're usually listed as an "end yoke."

    I tried to attach it but the holes don't line up correctly for the rock shaft so the rock shaft doesn't come all the way out the other side. Also is it ok if the top part of the shaft hits underneath the tractor or should it move freely . I am wondering if we need to drill new holes

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry you're having issues. Perhaps you have a newer model that's got a different arrangement? Mine is a 2008, but I do not know for sure what years this kit would cover. I imagine you shouldn't have to drill any holes, and the rock shaft should not come in contact with any other parts of the tractor if fully installed correctly. I think mine would touch the steering link under the tractor initially, but once everything was bolted in, everything cleared.

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the tension spring (lift assist) installed, it may have too much tension on it. It could be your height adjustment knob is set too high. The knob will adjust the front blade height just as it does the mower deck.

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The blade (44") and everything else came off another X300. The blade alone I believe will fit several models. I think it's the bracket and linkage that is unique to the X300 series tractors (maybe X500 series as well). Mine is older (2008), so if you've got a newer tractor yours may be different, per one of the commenters below. The Serial Number prefix for my blade is M044FBF...
