    THAT is a job I haven't done it awhile, an EGR cooler on one of these. I vaguely recall the most unpleasant part of this task is "wearing" coolant when you lift the cooler assembly off the valve cover.
    BTW, I haven't done an 18E02 yet. Nor am I looking forward to it from what I'm reading.

    Arod, I have a question for you, when refilling the rad with concentrated anti-freeze do you use distilled water or are you better off using deionized water . I see all kind of arguments over this and I'm not sure which to use since there is a difference in the water. Can you point us in the right direction, thanks

    I drained and flush the coolant months ago but not the secondary I thought it was all the same. So if I drain the secondary do I just fill it with the same ford coolant that is required for the primary?
    Also my secondary bottle is overflowing looks like dirty coolant with oily substance, it's still red/orange but you can smell and feel the oil. Would a flush be the issues or I'm I looking at a bad EGR or head gasket. I have no engine warning or white smoke.

      Check that charge air cooler assembly. Have had a bunch leak internal both ways. Yes, takes the same as primary. Flush yes, with Ford VC9. No EGR issues that wld cause that. Head gasket issues would show up in the primary circuit, not 2ndary.

    I'm going to do the secondary system. When you pull the hose off the transmission cooler does that get all the antifreeze out of the system? Or should I also drain from the radiator itself. I have an aftermarket bumper so it's easy to get to. I want to flush the system. Should I add 3 gallons of distelled water and run the engine for awhile then drain it out? Do that twice with distilled water? After doing that twice should I blow air to get all fluids out of it? If I use the VC9 how much of the bottle do I use for the secondary radiator. I was told not to use it because it can cause leaks on the seals. What's your opinion? Sorry for so many questions. Thx

    • @PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
      @PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Harold, no sweat. All I RECOMMEND doing, is pulling that hose off which drains the secondary system. No need to flush it out unless you have had contamination. With that said, get you 2 gallons of Ford's VC3-DILB gallons (predeluted) and fill that pig up!!!

    As usual thanks for the videos! Question on the secondary system- Are you familiar with the routing inside the degas bottle for the secondary? I swapped from orange to yellow last time I drain and filled (did not use vacuum) the system and I'm having trouble getting a reading in the bottle. If I open the cap, I can see coolant but wasn't able to ever see a change in the bottle where the high/low markers are. Level stays consistent. Does the fill port go directly into the degas bottle and am I safe if I can see coolant inside the cap? Primary is easy to read even with yellow but the secondary is throwing me off! Thanks again!

    Removing the 2nd radiator coolant line to the transmision cooler, as was done in the video, only removes 4 quarts of coolant. After the fluid runs from this disconnected coolant line you can turn the radiator drain valve with difficulty and the right tool and get 1 more quart to drain from the radiator, for a total of only 5 quarts out of 11.7 in the system. This is no place close to a drainage of the entire 2nd cooling system of worn out coolant. Poor engineering for routine maintenance from Ford as usual.
