48:15 'learning the codes of power' 48:39 'understanding what it takes to have access to opportunity is an important part of demystifying power and the way it works'
Then he references droopy trousers and baseball cap wearing as a dress code which does not reflect the powerful dress code. So, 'pull up your pants' and take your cap off to access powerful roles in society (and not as cultural assimilation) This helps prepare them for adult life, he says

The title of the movie,"Waiting for Superman" suggests that there is a super hero that has come to save the day. While I disagree that any one person alone can save the day, I do believe in the "power of one" concept. Leadership begins with those committed to addressing, analyzing and implement solutions; taking on the role of a change agent. Dr. Pedro Noguera work, commitment and passion indicate he is such leader. While he is much too driven to be deemed "Superman", his direction is correct.

45:40 'If you are a young African American or a young Latino boy [in the USA], one of the things you have to learn very early is how to make people not be afraid of you' 😔 45:48 ... you don't realise...maybe, it's at a subliminal level or some other level, your very presence, your tone of voice, scares the hell out of some people... and if you don't learn how to smile 46:10 and if you don't learn how to read them and understand when they are afraid, 46:14 you will find you will be shunned; you will be punished; ... you will not know how to engage a police officer 46:20 you could be in big trouble'

43:08-> He references John Aygo's thinking about cultural assimilation. Broadly, Aygo (sp?) argues, there are two immigrant groups: (a) voluntary immigrants and (b) obligated / forced immigrants. Whilst (a) will culturally assimilate, (b) will oppose it because it is interpreted as taking more of their heritage and culture away from them. Aygo places most Asian migrants as within (a). He cites most African, Puerto Rican and Latin American migrants as within (b) 43:43

No one knew what had happened and no one know what the board member could have been thinking about... Put students in an area where they can learn and can mastery learn and can for the rest of their lives for earning a decent income and supporting themselves. Fishers of men.

Thank you...thank you. I went out. Earned my degree. Returned to the school I grauduated from. The administrative staff took one year in order to fire me with this one thing: The studnet tteacher said. the teachers said. I have received more complaints about you than any other sub. Another board member of another system let called the office before classes began with, "I do not have to say. Get your things and leave."
