Its a nightmare to think about both Simnos that stayed behind- if the first still lives... One is trapped in a small room with literally nothing, the other is trapped in a piloting chair in the water in complete darkness, also alone...
OH MY... Despite the fact that this game will always live in my heart, Her voice lives in my head rent free, Nell Mooney nailed it, Everything about this game has a really deep atmosphere, even on the smallest details which makes SOMA more interesting, I remember the varios times I've beat this game without any hurry and observing every detail, Studying the Monsters, It would be godlike if they added DLCs, No wonder why it is my favorite horror game, I wish they'd make a new SOMA but that's on the list of things that may never happen, also huge love for the SOMA mods, Some are very creative specially the SCP ones, y'all should Play or watch them too!!!
I think it’s heartwarming that despite some of her…underhanded behavior towards Simon and having only known(from her on/off perspective) Simon for less than several hours at most she still at the end considers him a friend(disregarding what they’re final…real world confrontation ended as)
I believe that the game states that Catherine has no friends herself. She only valued progress. So, if a person is not advancing her objective, they are no use for her. Or that's at least how I saw her. She basically used Simon as a tool to launch the Arc. On one hand, a very noble cause, but on another, her constant neglect towards Simon is worrying. Perfect for a horror atmosphere!
This game fucked with me for a week after completing it. I recommend it to everyone I know who plays videogames. The despair of an end of the world scenario, above the ocean and below. The horror of those stuck in the WAU. The hope you feel about a digital paradise among the stars. The crushing reality of what that entails for the "you" who doesn't "win" the coin toss." I've played through it several times since then, and it never feels any less impactful than the first.
To be fair to the ARK project, pretty much everything that humanity has as a sort of time capsule or a remnant of humanity is pretty much the same thing. An object floating around in space. Voyager Golden Record, the Pioneer plaques, etc.
i will never forget how the ending hit me. the utter hollowness and despair, the complete lonely terror Simon expresses in the dark... i was so relieved to see the Simon and Catherine in the ARK. but even then, i never forgot about the Simon(s) still at the bottom of the ocean. i wondered how, if you chose to spare the other Simon in the lighter-duty suit, that Simon would react when another Simon came back, alone. i think the first Simon would first be really pissed that he got left behind, but then he would find that the second Simon had suffered the same fate. and then... what would they do? it's just the two of them, surrounded by monsters and the void.
I saw a video on yt... about a restored ending where you actually have a little conversation with Cath on the Ark sat on a bench... It's not much but it's a wholesome piece of content if you're intrested
Man I love your videos. SO underrated as a channel. I always learn something new or see something I never noticed in the game. You're a TRUE Frictional fan dude
The city on the ARK looks really weirdly designed with multiple saftey hazards like the cliffs with no guard rails. It looks like one of "Futurism" scams that were all over the internet in the early 2010s and continue to this day with projects like NEOM or the futuristic Arizona city project.
I figure the people on the Ark doesn't have to worry about dying from falling or anything, since it's all a simulation. So they can go full aesthetics with not other considerations if they want. Physics isn't gonna complain, they run it how they want.
Her dismissive attitude towards Simons questions seems very apropriate. Since she knows she's a scan, she thought about these things long enough to at some point be tired of them. She just accepted all of it and doesn't want to engage with these questions again.
Also the 'it was an accident' would have made me lose my shit. You don't accidentally hit someone with a wrench on the head hard enough to kill them seconds later... Ian pedersen is a murderer!
@@d00mnoodle That is true, but think of how depressed everyone in that kind of situation is. At that point they're not even caring about their own survival but of their legacy, the Ark. Not that it's right what he did, however I think in that moment the survival of the Ark was the main priority. Also we don't get a clear image of what happens, it might have indeed been an accident even if it sounds mostly intentional.
The deep diving suits also kind of work as powered exoskeletons that enhance your strength. You would have to be pretty careful when handling in those things. Struggling with another person would certainly be a bad idea.
I said this on another video, but: Am I the only one that thought Catherine was an autistic person? Maybe I'm projecting myself onto her, but a lot of evidence points to it. >Her room having toys, having interests that people perceive as "childish" >Unable to talk to most people. >Only opens up when talking about the ARK or brain scans. (Hyperfixation) >Being able to focus intently on her ARK for days and days at a time down in the Theta Brain scan lab. >Has bad conversational skills but can mimic other people's way of speaking well (Alice Koster) >"I never felt too comfortable being human to begin with." A feeling a lot of autistic people feel.
11:18 my god... that's fucked. I never even thought about it like that. The one time she puts her foot down about something and they fuckin murder her...
Hello! I have several questions about specific moments... There's one of the corpses at Omicron, the one that moves of place when you pass for second time at the entrance. Who did it? Also, the guy at communication that have the pc gamer on his chest. Was he the guy that talked to us when we were at the upsilon's communication room? Was he still alive at that moment? And finally... At upsilon, just before we got the omnitool, the guy who died before we opened the door. Was he the second last human on earth alive? Or the thirt person? Because Amy also was alive... Sorry for bad English if there is any grammatical error. 😅😊
Two questions: 1. Can the residendts of the ARK procreate? - Unlikely. 2. What if there are two Catherine Chuns in the ARK now? Because the original Catherine definetly uploaded herself, along with the rest of the ARK Team. Was the first scan overwritten, or there are now two?
@@umukzusgelos4834 during the ending cutscene at the screen the catherine scan had additional 'complete' meanwhile simon only had the 'done', just like if catherine could actually inject herself into the ark
The possibility of Imogen meeting Catherine again is a little ambiguous to me. The only successful scan of Imogen was the one "stolen" by the WAU for use in the Vivarium, and around which Catherine built the ARK. We don't know anything about how good this scan might have been. When Catherine made a later attempt to scan her, Imogen suffered a seizure during the scan. Catherine wanted to try again because the seizure rendered this scan unusable. Imogen refused, and was subsequently reassigned to the Lambda salvage team, while Catherine and the ARK team moved on to Omicron. So the only real possibility is that the WAU's initial scan of Imogen is on the ARK; Imogen does say "that's not me up there," to Vanessa Hart, and she would sure have cause to feel that way if she understands that the copy of her is the one that was taken without her consent. All of this is shown in Transmissions #4, if you want to take a look. I find the relationship between Imogen and Catherine to be interesting, and a lot more thought-out than initial impressions suggest. Catherine is a fascinating character all on her own, as evidenced by the fact that people are still arguing about her ten years after the game came out. But her unrequited attraction to Imogen - and Imogen's increasingly hostile response to it - is an especially juicy bit of lore that allows us to infer quite a bit from just a few clues here and there.
A bit late but interestingly, it seems that the prototype Soma build did place a lot of emphasis on Catherine being a "damsel in distress" and love interest for Simon. I'm really glad they went on a very different direction, though.

With their powers combined they are….still stuck!
Help me step-Simon, I'm stuck
I can imagine the third Simon going back to the second Simon and drinking beer together forever after.
And this is probably why Johan Ross tried to kill us.
