Credit to Helloween for giving us this beautiful masterpiece and credit to Rhapsody for such a great reinterpretation.. Verdict : I love the clearer vocals by Rhapsody but overall, i love the original.
@@MetalAcademix I discovered the channel yesterday and it's top notch content, thank YOU. I remembered that Luca also covered March of Time from Helloween, consider taking a look as well.

I couldn't help but notice how connected Anamaria is to Hansen's and Weiki's back-to-back guitar solos on the original, via her body language. I cried when I first heard it back in the late '80's, and had to keep replaying that section over and over on each listen. The note choice is immortal, and that "wet," spacey reverb in the production that creates a feeling of distance adds to the effect 😉. There's a Visual Kei band from Japan called Raphael that disbanded two decades ago who wrote a beautiful neoclassical power metal song, in which the guitar tone and riff reminds me so much of Guardians. Whether influenced by Helloween or accidental, it's gorgeous (to me). If you guys ever did a reaction video to their music video for it, it'd be so rad, lol. Helloween is one of the formative bands for my taste in metal. I have listened to their albums from the 80s countless times. One of the first episodes we have done on Metal Academix is dedicated to Helloween, if you check that one out you will see what I'm talking about. Japanese metal is a whole different beast, I am still in the discovery phase there. I will listen to Raphael see what they are about. Interesting that some Japanese bands seem to refer to "classic" European culture (Raphael is one Versailles is another, I think there is one called Alhambra as well). - Anamaria
@@MetalAcademix I shall check the early episode out :) They were instrumental in laying the foundation for my taste as well; the two early Keeper records connected me to that flying/floating sensation felt from the soaring vocals and fluid melodic guitar riffage both riding on top of double bass drumming. Yes, ditto on the metal and j-rock/visual kei bands from Japan referencing "classic" European culture. The ones that use French and Latin really caught my eye back then, for example L'Arc-en-Ciel and La'cryma Christi hehe.
Another great battle, guys. I like the Helloween aggressive tone, but I can hardly hear the guitar from all that bass. The Rhapsody version has great guitars and Fabio's voice is soaring and his screams are better than Kai Hansen's. My vote is for Rhapsody in this one.
@@gvstavofabian You're probably right, the reason why I didn't hear the guitars properly is in the mix. I tried to listen to the song again and think beyond the tone but just couldn't, hearing Rhapsody's version kinda "spoiled" my ears. I'm a big fan of Helloween in general, just not here...
Admit it, guys... If Guardians was a Rhapsody song and the cover was from Helloween, you'd be insulting Helloween for production quality and all kinds of stuff...

Hello to you too, Alexandru! Which song are you thinking about as the battleground btw Running Wild and Accept? (And keep your eyes on the channel for some Running Wild in the coming weeks) - Anamaria
Helloween wins by far. The original song is heavier, more aggressive and honest. I like the Kai's voice imperfections and the "poor" production, I think they are perfect for a killer album like Walls of Jericho. Rhapsody version loose the original rage, maybe the solos are more technicals but at the same time, they have a neoclassical and softer feeling than Helloween ones and finally, I've always found annoying and unnecessary the excess of keyboards in power metal.
Rapsody of fire is the perfect example of what people criticize Power Metal for. Generic and cheesy in a lame way.. an d the guitars are just a bunch of scales played fast. Helloween on the other hand, are the real deal when it comes to musicianship.
@@alphacentauri3476 Love when people come back with that line.. you dont have to be a musician to be a fan of music and an observer. Just compare it to everything else out there which is far less generic and cliché.

Rhapsody of fire most produced and more refined. So, I prefer!
Metal Academix is a good name.
This is my first time listening to "Guardians"! Now I know where Gamma Ray got their inspiration for the chorus to "Man on a mission," lol
Nice! Still waitin' for that Wuthering Heights Review ;))
i was introduced to rhapsody by this cover since i knew helloween before
Partial to Helloween as love that entire album!
Rhapsody of Fire 🤘😎
Hi there, brothers and sisters. That's a great battle. Must admit, that I like both, but Rhapsody win for me.
REACTING TO HEAVY METAL SONGS ON A NICE DRESS, A TIE AND SOME BEERS. LOVED IT!!
helloween for me
I would like to ask you what reactions please the video of the band Vision Divine, the theme Angel of Revenge thanks
HELLOWEEN..!! 🤘😎
"RHAAAAPSODY... of fire" hahaha
i will say is a DRAW, the original version with Kai Hansen is the pure sound of Helloween but the Voice of Fabio give a plus of they version.
I will go with Rhapsody for this battle.
Love of them.....
original = power metak
and rhapsody version = classical epic metal
original = speed metal, rhapsody = power metal
you could do this with Thundersteel, Luca Turilli's Rhapsody version vs Riot V version
Great suggestion, thank you! - Anamaria

Helloween walls of Jericho vs blind guardian battallions of fear vs running wild gates to purgatory
Guardians is my favourite helloween track 🤘melodic fast epic the rhapsody version is good just not a raw as the original.

Actually I love the bass lines on Guardians, my fav thing and I think the guitar problem is not from the bass but the mix/tone of them.

Helloween gana esta por lejos. Me gusta la versión de Rhapsody pero la de Helloween es mas chora, mas sucia, mas heavy
As for the actual video/battle I call a draw. Both a very good versions.
First! 😜

Running Wild AND Accept. 🤘
Rhapsody of fire all the way , Can’t compare the musicianship, between Fabio singing and Luca Turilli composing
I rather like the "epic" version, to me it sounds more modern. One shouldn't remember who's the original author while judges.
Then there is Blind Guardians (the band) but don't think they have covered this song.
With this one I could never get behind the original, or Kai's vocals. Everything is too murky and noisy for me. Rhapsody's version all the way.
helloween,me encanta la de rapsody, pero se le quita un poco el sentido con lo sinfonico, ambas son geniales
They both sound the same to me cant tell a differce
I don't like Helloween and I love Rhapsody in general. But in this particular case original song sounds much better
