I don't get it, I started playing 20+ years ago, and I still suck! WTF? Maybe it's cause I didn't play much over the years, but I thought I'd be competent by now! I thought that the more guitars you own, the better you'd be...WRONG! Oh well, at least I know what good music is...not sure why I can't play as good as my ear is. Now I am depressed. Maybe I should learn scales...no, that's totally boring! At least I can read tablature....
What makes U technically good is practice & 'rational' technique, & what makes U sound good is research & taste = 2 sift through tons of krap & steal & combine the good stuff U find, like mining 4 gems, both in melodic ideas & timing as well as the choices in gear U use 2 get the right textures. Like 4 instance if something U can do makes it easier 2 play the same thing U like, just do it. Lot of bass players 4 instance mimic an upright '2 finger' thing. That's so retarded. When I play bass it's more like flamenco guitarist positions = 10,000X easier & faster. Y limit yourself 2 2 fingers & a thumb or whatever? Oh please...
