    There's a much easier and simpler way to do this. Once you paste the video link into a Facebook post, you can delete the 'preview' by clicking the little x in the corner of the automated thumbnail that appears, and replace it by uploading the still image custom thumbnail you've created for the video. Then your followers will just click the link which will open the video in TH-cam.

    Many many thanks for your suggestion. This was the mistake i have been doing since a year and i realised something was wrong since the views were not adding up. God bless you

    I've heard about this before - that TH-cam doesn't count views on videos with links right in the post (not good for monetized channels!).
    Thanks for the reminder.
    This stinks, though, for trying to use something like Hootsuite to schedule posts.
    You asked how we're going to use this.... The uptick in views has already started! The US Thanksgiving holiday starts it off and it goes until Christmas Day. (Some newer channel creators might not know this!) For some odd reason, the views/watch time drop between Christmas and New Year's Day (when I think it should still be high!) I've been telling newer channel creators to promote at least 1 video per day on their social media accounts between now and Christmas to "catch the wave" of the high amount of viewing people do worldwide at this time of the year!
    Thanks, David!

      I believe so that it doesn't get identified on FB as a TH-cam video. See Geekism's comment above...

    Hey, thanks for this - I have been going mad because I have a Facebook group with 100,000 members and the links I posted produced NO views on my TH-cam videos!! I knew there would be something stopping the magic happening but now I’m going to try this! Thanks again

    Way too much work. Once you upload your thumbnail, you can paste your link into the description box and your thumbnail will not be replaced with an embedded video. I do that all the time.

      Problem is, Facebook can tell if the post contains a youtube link and won't deliver the post to your followers as much as it doesn't want them leaving the platform. This method stops that :)

      Hi David, out of curiosity, have you seen a significant difference in reach between 1) attaching thumbnail with link in the post vs 2) what you've shown here. I have always wondered if putting the link in a photo post affects organic reach. Also, it seems to be that Facebook is smart enough to adjust for this tactic (whether they have already or not), and will start decreasing reach when posters comment right away with a link. Thoughts?

      @kingscrusher 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I see where David was coming from - and it does seem too much work and kind of burying the Short URL link beneath. I think the issue was when you put the whole thing with the Short URL immediately, it plucks up the image automatically from that which is horribly cropped. But in this event one can use the x to delete that cropped horrid image, and just upload your thumbnail image - and it will be nice again, and be more engaging as it is a picture post. I think David is using the abbreviated version now checking his wall on facebook. I think one of the good things about this is that I suspect it might grow the wall more organically because pictures probably are still King for organic engagement. So even on boosted posts, I suspect the picture method is better for Wall growth. Also of course, Google tracking is important to track where people are coming from etc. Cheers David and all. I am experimenting with this change right now.

  • @TrainTsarFun
    @TrainTsarFun 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    This might help me hate Facebook less. I have been experimenting and it seems FaceBook does not want you to link your TH-cam videos because those posts are always my least shared or seen on Facebook. But if I post a video directly to Facebook - it reaches 100x more people if not 1000x. Just haven't figured out how to monetize videos on Facebook which goes back to the problem of why even bother with Facebook.

      I agree... FB will block it to your friends or followers any external link, (and I think it is worst if it is from other social media competitors, that Zuckerberg is selfish, veeeeery selfish) so writting the link in a comment is the best way. Now will just have to expect that our viewers open the comment section :p

    After the LSY Workshop I just put the shortened link in the comments with a photo instead of embedding it onto Facebook. I've just added photos with the links of what I've posted since then after watching this. Not sure if the preview link in the comments do count. I click through to a new tab and the views are counted.

    Hi David , I just did a little test with a video that only had 2 views all day on my channel, it seems you can do it exactly how you said with a pic but you can put the shortened URL in the main post instead of comments and it registers as a view on TH-cam. That's also easier for sharing to other Facebook groups, Marc

    I do slightly different, as I use a shortened link service for my embedded code, which I place on facebook post. I do this since the link is so long. The code is also placed several skipped lines below my post so it does not show unless you stroll down. The views count as art of those embedded on different site. I also have my post automatically uploaded to my twitter which keeps the code and receive even more views. Additionally, I have a service that automatically post to my facebook accounts. Making life much easier.

    Thanks for this really useful video! I was wondering why my posts with just text were getting more views than my posts with links. It all makes sense now... Even if TH-cam counts some of the views on Facebook, there's a less chance people on Facebook will see it as it favours text and photo posts. I'm sure you know that (or even said that!), but I'm just learning this type of thing!

    It's clever being that Facebook's algorithm wants to keep people on Facebook. My main issue is getting people to see the post in the first place. So it may be a workaround actually putting the link as a comment rather than on the initial post. As far as Facebook is concerned it's a native post. Thanks for sharing. I will definitely try this.

    Linking to a blog post containing our video should be fine, right?
    Whenever I make a video, I also put up a blog post with the same name where I embed that video and transcribe it.
    Although the viewer has an additional step (click on the post then click on the video), it will be counted as a view and they are on our website where we have the liberty to do whatever we want (optins, popus...).

    That was then, today it't copy and paste and it does count as a view as it opens in a new tab.

    I have been thinking about using trailers on FB to get viewers to my TH-cam channel. Do you think it could be viable to post a short teaser to Facebook so it plays in the newsfeed and then direct viewers to YT from there?

      Yeah, it is good for PC viewers. But mobile viewers will not be redirected to the TH-cam app and only able to subscribe if they sign in Facebook browser. How to fix it???

    Great video! Question.. does this technique works also for Instagram? The shortened link for a youtube video on my Instagram bio will enable the count ?

    Why is the link in the first comment rather than as accompanying text on the original thumbnail post?

      Yes, it does. At least, I've promoted that way many times. However, I use Tiny URL to modify my links.

      Bible Flock Box I confess this is how I too have been doing it, only I use a bitly link - this way I can rename it something more appropriate to the video

      Restream.io is a worthy tool for streaming multi platform. 😊
