    FYI Takapuna is suburb of the North Shore, and the North Shore's population is 205,605 according to the 2006 census. So that will be a substantial amount higher now.

      Sorry about that, I am aware Takapuna is part of North shore but I think of it like the realation Auckland central has with the rest of Auckland as Takapuna is kind of the CBD of North Shore, but even that is innaccurate as all of Auckland is still one city I just split it out into seperate Skylines. I should have really titled it The Tallest building in every New Zealand Skyline then it would have been better data overall. I will hopefully do a revised version in the future as I recently discovered High Rises in Masterton, Upper hutt and Paparpamu so I am also missing out a few cities/areas, hopefully that version will be more accurate when it comes out :).

      Lol, yeah I just tried to include every city even if their tallest building was rather small, although I actually missed Masterston and Upper Hutt in the video.

    It seems like every city or town in New Zealand must have a building that can be an average high

      My mistake, I was aware of these buildings, added them to the old skyscraper database Emporis back in the day, however totally missed it, sorry about that, will include it in a revised version.

    Hi CBD. I know you are active Auckland Skyscraper forum site. [The Pacifica diagram below]. Great how we worry about a few mtrs. but It does make it 'The tallest building in NZ'. Take away CB's architectural foil and it makes it a 168m. approx. to top floor building. I do hate it when we include spires and masts in the overall height, its measuring a mans height with a hat on. I know this been discussed ++ hence the different height measurements on the CBUTH. Love you work as you can tell I am a skyscraper 'nerd' and would love to do videos like yours but don't have the time. Keep up the great work.

      Cheers thanks a lot yeah does take up a ton of time I think the top 100 video (now really out of date some heights were wrong might do an updated version some time) took me about 12hours to make. Yeah I can defintley see what you mean by the spires being a cheat it can be really contreversal though (as you would know) and I think if I changed it all to roof height I would have a lot more complaints about not doing it propley as people always want their buildings counted as higher then they actually are (eg Empire state building would be less then 300M if you took it from main roof, ANZ Centre would be 135 or 128M, Q1 would be 275M Pacific tower would be 75M,). Most professinal data suplliers count spires which is why I do but if you want me to make some videos like for example top 25 tallest in NZ to roof height I defintley could for you.

    Hi the Pacifica is definitely 181.35m. [The council do list it at 178m but do not take the plant room into consideration]. The diagrams for the Pacifica building are in the 'skyscraperpage' forum. [Auckland construction section].

    • @thecentralbusinessdistrict231
      @thecentralbusinessdistrict231  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be 181M and I have heard what you are saying multiple times before, I take all my Data off Emporis.com which is for the taller buildings (especially in NZ I know about 6 on CTBUH that have the wrong heights) more accurate then CTBUH, I then back it up with CTBUH if needed and for older buildings im unsure on I measure using google earth 3D models. The Pacifica defintley wins hands down in terms of floor area and roof height and floor count but sources are conflicting and I just try to get all my data off the same sources and pretty much all of them list Pacifica at 178M even though it might be wrong.

  • @andrewdunion1911
    @andrewdunion1911 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wrong, Pacifica tower is highest at 57 floors way higher than PWC tower.

    • @thecentralbusinessdistrict231
      @thecentralbusinessdistrict231  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Pacifica does have a higher floor count but its actual Height is only 178M slightly shorter the the PWC Tower. It does have a higher roof height though so there is an argument it is taller.

    • @andrewdunion1911
      @andrewdunion1911 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thecentralbusinessdistrict231 in terms of useable floor space, Pacifica wins hands down. The screen to hide the plant room on the PWC building hides the fact that the roof is much lower. Plus I’ve spent the last 18 months Project Managing Pacifica structure and looking down on it😎, so maybe I’m biased?

    • @thecentralbusinessdistrict231
      @thecentralbusinessdistrict231  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewdunion1911 Wow thats awesome bro ! Nice one! The Pacifica is the larger building by quite a large amount , but I make my videos based on the Emporis building standards (also the same for the CTBUH), which takes height from the buildings highest architectural point which is 180M on the PWC tower but only 178M on the pacifica although I have heard some sources that have listed the Pacifica as 181M, but they seemed less reliable. Outside of size and trying to be unbyist what building do you think has the better overall design? Cheers

    In order to be a city in NZ it must have a population of over 70,000.

    • @thecentralbusinessdistrict231
      @thecentralbusinessdistrict231  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, im not sure If I have ever heard 70,000 be used, I have heard 20,000 or 35,000 though but never 70,000, overall really though as with what is classed as a Skyscraper or not there is no universally accepted definiton, like In Timaru they have signs saying "City Centre" etc referring to it as a city same with Greymouth.

    • @vizbuck
      @vizbuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thecentralbusinessdistrict231 In New Zealand this is the population required by the government to have a city council and to be a city. :)

    • @vizbuck
      @vizbuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thecentralbusinessdistrict231 Previously it was 30k when the population was lower about 20 years ago so you might find a sigh in Timaru that still says city center. The signs in Greymouth say town center. Greymouth has never been a city. Look it up.

    • @thecentralbusinessdistrict231
      @thecentralbusinessdistrict231  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vizbuck Cheers, I have looked it up but I have also been in Greymouth about a month ago and there were various signs reffering to it as a city (not actual council ones like Timaru now that I think about it), and also the numbers you are listing appear to be 50,000 and 20,000, 70,000 and 30,000 just to confirm on that? And yes that is the council parameters, but calling the video tallest building in Every large town and city in New Zealand would have sounded a bit off, and though it might not offically have city status it might be called a city by people all around, (eg Timaru or Gisborne for example) and different countrys looking in from the outside might call those "major cities" , for example in the US they call just about everything even as small as 1,000 people city.

    • @Scell_
      @Scell_ 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats not true. The old standard was 20k, which is why Timaru, Whanganui and gisborne are considered cities. The standard was upped to 50k in 1989.

    • @thecentralbusinessdistrict231
      @thecentralbusinessdistrict231  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sky tower is obviously the tallest structure in NZ, but folloiwng the Standards off Emporis and the CTBUH it is not counted as a building. It is a observation tower as less then 50% of its area is inhabitated, there is defintley a very good argument its a building and I should have maybe included it, but the sources I get my data from dont.

      Its by far the biggest city yes along with by far the biggest and best skyline in NZ makes up for the bulk of our Skyscrapers. Although I would say Wellington probably has the more impressive skyline for its Size and up until around 1990 outperformed Auckland in most Aspects of skyscrapers despite its much smaller size, although now Auckland is far ahead.
