@Donald John Trump hahahaha
@Donald John Trump vacuna URRS jajjajaja!!!
For the 2% who read this, I wish you for a total success in your next project!!!
I'm among those who even without undestanding a single word of what they're saying are completely entranced by the songs.
The same case!!!
I don't need to know her language to understand her message 🥀🖤🥀
KEXP is having the best sound quality for private shows
I miss the Seattle Music scene😪 so much😪 there's no other city that compares🥀🖤🥀
So their band was formed by saying "Hey, theres a poetry slam, we should do something weird". That's awesome!
Darkwave is so beautiful. I can’t wait to see them live in August
Where?
Where?
Where?
hmm well the new sound is called dark wave but i would consider this post punk as well
@@deziolivas9908 same thing🥀🖤🥀
I love the way musicians who are far too young to remember the eighties can incorporate so much eighties style into their sound (i.e. simple straight rhythms and dominant synths with massive reverb), without considering it cringeworthy or cheesey as we would have done twenty-to-thirty years ago. It's taken quite some time, but it seems finally people can appreciate again the feeling that inspired such style in the first place.
right? I was their age in the 80's and loved new wave and early industrial, for these very reason!
Absolutely. The earnestness and genuineness of them and their sound is refreshing.
:)
Given they're all fans of acts like The Cure, Joy Division, and Bauhaus, it's unsurprising.
Robert Smith (yes, THAT Robert Smith) invited them to play the Meltdown Festival in 2018, and later to play as part of The Cure's 40th birthday concert.
I'm not sure it's very surprising. It's easy to access music from any period without radio or television acting as an intermediary that strips away your choice. I am very happy that I gained internet access in my early teens, even if the speed was slow. You can just completely throw out the period constraints, commercial viability constraints, political correctness constraints, and just go directly for what you like after a modest amount of searching. Once you access the music, it will probably grow a circle of some fans.
what is it about Iceland? So mysteriously beautiful and strange.
And such lovely people.
Also, where are my doc martens? Think I left them somewhere in here back around '92...
my ex broke mine, they were still new :(
Love KM. I’m happy to see their keyboardist finally got a new synth. For the longest time I’d watch them and think how amazing they are and she deserves a synth that is not broken lol!
i really loved that broken synth though
Is goth music finally back? Awesome
MAKE AMERICA GOTH AGAIN
It never went away. Where there is light, there are shadows.
Back? Perhaps more in the spotlight again. But much like punk, shoegaze or country music, there's always been a kernel of die-hard fans and artists keeping the datklight lit.
@@gustavosserra Oh yes! I definitely had to grow up to appreciate this kind of music!
I played with this incredible band in Leipzig and they are absolutely insane live.
Barry Crider what band you in?
@@steve2972 We're called Creux Lies
Just checked you out, sound great and have subscribed 👍
Just bought your last Album and “Made” the last single, bloody great !
@@steve2972 Wow thank you so much! Hope to meet you in the future, many tours to come...
I assume they all have pointy ears under their headsets.
Mars Martian *Nah, they are witches not elf.*
@@KitariItsSomethingRottenHere Why not both?
@@KitariItsSomethingRottenHere witch elves
Cause are nord witch
and eyebrows under their bangs
Its awesome how they organically and naturally just became 80's goth band... while being young enough not to experience that time xD Like that style rediscovered itself just by itself.. xD
Love Kælan Mikla! 🖤 When I watched/heard their songs "Kalt" and "Sýnir" on YT from a live session (I think it was at Orange Ear) the very first time, it blew me away. They're so unique! 💕 Icelandic is such a beautiful and mysterious language.
Maybe icelandic beeing old nordic sounds alluring cos seems to be closer then other temporary languages to proto indo european - mother of most langueages. Something in our dna is echoing.
holy shit. new obsession
I don't understand but the vibe feels intense (this is awesome! )
Just what is it about Iceland that produces such musical talent? Smitten again!
Probably all the faerie magic...Sigur Ros, Bjork, all kinds of goodness from there
Icelandic society seems to have a heavy emphasis on music, literature and other forms of culture. I think they even turn their TV station off one day a week, so people can actively participate in cultural activities.
I can only imagine the insanely offended responses if I tried to promote the turn off devices option to my friends here in America..."constant selfies and food pics literally aren't just an hourly right, they're like literally an obligation...literally"
@@stevebarlow3154 Not so any more. It's been years since there was no TV on Thursdays.
Subsidesed musicschools!
You know you're legit goth when you get approval by the crypt keeper himself
Dark and 80ish....😍
I absolutely love them I’m so glad their starting to get more recognition 🖤🖤
It's been awesome literally watching these girls grow up and advance musically and artistically. So cool.
they need more attention
Icelandic goth music 🤟🏽🖤 hell yes
Nice to see this finally up! They have been my favorite band for the last year and finally getting to see them live after hoping they would play the US was a dream. Really wonderful live band. Hoping to catch them again soon!
Awesome band, very unique amongst many in the music world now, and warms my heart to see such badass young ladies doing so well, already opening for The Cure, amazing! Profound, poetic, ethereal. Also, Icelandic is a beautiful language.
i saw them on a whim in my city not long ago, without ever hearing of them before. they were awesome!!!
I love Kaelan Mikla you are the best 🖤💜🖤💜🖤 Very love from México.
I am fucking living for this all-Icelandic dark synth girl groups. More of this please!!!
Can you recommend me some? They are the only band I know from Iceland. I'm interested in more!
@@Saghy1 wat more techno, but do listen to Hatari
Same! Can’t get over these goth Icelandic babes
"Tell me about the state it is written in." Mhhh... sounds like he is thinking of drugs. :D But Kaelan Mikla is a legal drug to listen to.
Holy shit they grew so much as a band.
Really owning the stage.
Saw them play at the Cure's day in Hyde park a couple of years ago then again last year. I would absolutely love to make it gig number 3.
I'll go with
Been waiting this set since october and it took a lil bit so long, but still have the same excited. Thanks for uploading this KEXP! 🖤✨
This is my favorite style
Fun trio. I like the way they developed into their music. Quite inspiring
Greetings from Colombia. I don't understand the lyrics, but I feel all the atmosphere you can create. It's like an ethereal, cold and obscure kind of home.
Wonderful again, but we would expect nothing less from the extremely talented trio. It's a little hard to hear the bass in the mix, but they were clearly into it as I am sure we all are. Thank you Kælan Mikla and KEXP!
Always great to see any footage from this band. Wish I spoke Icelandic but the fact I can’t takes nothing away the songs in fact I’m really glad they keep it in there native tongue it adds to the vibe. Excellent band thanks for posting
Ice Gothic Power
What do you mean by 21+ ??
So the Kælan Mikla girls couldn't get in !?
LOL
Dude. TH-cam algorithm is bomb. New favorite band right here.
i like this band a lot . i see a lot of comments about how they remind people of other bands , to me its very original i don't really see that . not that that would be bad per se . they are getting better and better . they are forming a nice style .
there is a genuine quality about this band that i find very appealing . i'm not sure how to describe it . i like this philosophy of doing that music that is in you .
I never agree with any of the comparisons. A lot of them are lazy parallels too. Maybe Xmal, but just because it’s dark and not sung in English.
They have a very unique sound. Obviously 80s inspired, but 80s post punk, dark wave and goth bands didn’t sound like this.
ok , i can see a little bit of how the bass and synths have an energy or an interaction with each other like some joy division songs , joy division played at a faster tempo though and kaelan mikla doesn't have a guitar . but maybe , hmmm .. i can sort of see that comparison sure ..
joy division had a of sort new wave sounding vocals . kinda like the talking heads , devo , etc etc ..
that is different , but i guess a comparison could be made .. not an obvious one though ..
@@davidfriend1919 They got together on a whim for a poetry slam in 2013 (they were in high school at the time). Maggie hadn't been playing bass for long before, Sólveig was on drums at the time & picked up the sticks for the first time ever a week before the contest. Laufey had never sung anything. There were no plans to continue beyond the poetry slam. Someone had the presence of mind to record them. (th-cam.com/video/PhvqsWMLpuU/w-d-xo.html)
After they won, people kept asking them what else they had and when & where they were going to play next. They literally learned how to play while on the road. (They've said as much in recent interviews.)
My cat is in love w this he’s running all over the place playing Hahah
You girls are badass! Love your music!

arturo miranda waiting for a pro audio of that
I would have loved to hear "Kalt" and/or "Sýnir". They're my favourite songs. Don't get me wrong, I still love the performance, also the nice chat in between. But that's just high-level nagging on my part 😉
The man doing the interview is so supportive and positive to them.he is a really nice guy.
Si pueden responder ustedes de la banda ppor fabor
EVERYONE's nice at KEXP
The Sisters of Mercy / Clan of Xymox old school 1980's goth style is strong with them.
LOVELY!
Wonderful band, sounds fantastic... A really good moment !
For the huge fans of Cold wave/Goth/Batcave...etc All happy bands in this dark side of music, it could be nice to continue on this way with a KEXP Goth Festival ( then...it's the winter..a perfect time for this)
Anyway, thanks KEXP for your love of ALL musics !
*19:27** Draumadis, my favorite, such an amazing piece of Dark Synth.*
You fucking rock, can't even describe how fucking amazing you are...

This band is amazing!
I saw them this past summer. They were badass live.
They are incredible. I love them even more now that I've heard all of them speak.
Beautiful bass player...she is a dream....
Their first songs were more punk rock while now is more ambient, goth.
that was the best performance of Nótt Eftir Nótt song ever! Thank you KEXP for capturing this.

I wholeheartedly agree! They're amazing! 💞💕
Icelandic goth Angels!
Curious if their chains have a story behind them. They're all wearing one and they have keys dangling from them.
The design of the chains looks a bit like the Tree of Life from the Kabalah. Which is the Jewish mysticism underpinning Western magic.
Amazing sounds !!! ..Thanks a lot..!!
