    When I was a kid, I asked my mother what was the difference between Republican and Democrat. My mother took a moment, probably considering how to say it simply for a child, and she said. "Republicans care more about Money, and Democrats care more about people." After about 35 years, these words have held up.

    I never spent a single penny on McDonnell's bridges. I went west on I-64 to Indiana, then up I-265. Only a couple of miles longer and costs nothing. =) If Kentuckians will only elect someone that fights against their best interests, why should I help them?

    Not just that they don't want anymore... They want to keep what they have and make sure nobody else has anymore than they have now. The more the less fortunate have, the less they feel like they have. And they just can't stand it. Anyone else’s success detracts from their own. And they're just not having it.

      Their power over the rest of us depends on the fear of utter destruction that every non-wealthy American lives with daily. No way they are going to let the rest of us achieve freedom from that fear of ending up homeless and dying of a preventable disease-- it leads the laborers to get less servile.

    How about bringing back the fairness doctrine so that when fox or newsmax or msnbc airs any opinion piece they have to right then and there allow equal time for rebuttal. Oh yeah, and while we're at it ban offensive language, not ideas, just foul language on any public forum.

    • @kevinwachs5905
      @kevinwachs5905 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Fairness Doctrine never, ever worked that way. But even if it worked at all (it didn't), why should broadcasters have lesser press freedom than print publishers?
      The legal justification for the Fairness Doctrine was the scarcity of dial space using the airwaves. That no longer is a technological problem, so the legal justification is no longer valid.
      How did the Fairness Doctrine work? Radio and television stations gave people a few minutes after the news to read their letters to the editor. That was it. That is all the Fairness Doctrine did.
      What kept broadcasters middle of the road wasn't a doctrine imposed from above. In those days of few stations and fewer networks, broadcasters were seeking to attract the largest audience by offending no one. The proliferation of channels from cable, satellite and digitization changed the ratings game to niche marketing. So a small, zealous audience became more achievable and more profitable than a huge heterogeneous audience. That is what drove the rise of far right talk radio. The Fairness Doctrine never mattered, nor does its absence.

    I love that tuning in to hear Fineman on Republican nihilism, a serious and potentially horrendous political happening, I hear Leo Kottke playing the kind of music that is relentlessly light and happy. Happy music, not jazz. Franken did not hire Lenny Pickett, the SNL saxophonist. Jazz infers the downer aspects of life. This is happy.

    • @mossydog6968
      @mossydog6968 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should give Stan Getz a try then....

    • @craighoyer6543
      @craighoyer6543 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mossydog6968 Saw Getz twice at keystone Korner in Bay area and once in Manhattan. What is really cool is you promoting Getz! Getz had the best tone on tenor, a true innovator. I loved his work with the late Chick. He was a model for Coltrane He laid back too much for me, bringing its own downer aspect. I played with Lenny Pickett on the SNL band. He may have never played too little! Pickett was a student of Bert Wilson whose band I played with for decades. Bert WIlson is unique in the jazz world, or I should say in the jazz underworld, since he died 8 years ago. All the best cats, Joe Lovano, Ernie Watts, Benny Golson, studied with Bert to learn his approach to multiphonics and extreme altissimo. He played 3 note chords on his tenor and alto and bass clarinet, He could play notes in the top octave of a piano. Pickett plays off the right end of the piano! On Tenor! THANKS FOR THE GETZ SUGGESTION

    45:30 The debates should be broadcast. Then We The People should be allowed to vote on how Congress should vote. That way, the will of the people will be 100% clear to our representatives. And we want specific, clearly written bills, without of bunch of hidden stuff in there. What the hell kind of procedure is that?

    Hey Senator Franken, The loss of your voice in Congress was and is a loss for democracy everywhere. Even as a “conservative” who disagreed with many of your political positions, I wish you had chosen to stay on.
    Quashing the current “Big Lie” quickly and completely is crucial to preventing the return of the “Big Lie” culture that arose in the 1920s and 30s. The number of voters and politicians who support(ed) the former President is truly scary.

You could have gone so far as breaking out a couple of lines on a 17 year old caboose on donor dimes. You could have gloriously reached new lows and depths of shame during the double secret probation period, before a finger waving goodbye. You disappoint me sir.
