David Arthur is the best bike reviewer by far- love the amount of detail and thoughtful feedback. Bikeradar, Loam Wolf, Enduro Mtb, etc. - no one is even close

I do love the simplicity of a hard tail MTB. The immediacy of the power transfer is so addictive for me. You feel like you really do get out, what you put in. I know ultimately, it will be slower over rough terrain, but it feels so alive!

A bike I have no interest in but with David at the helm, it’s a solid watch from start to finish. Let’s get this channel to 50k guys! Without a doubt, the best guy on TH-cam by a mile for all things cycling.

    Great review David!
What I like about hard tails is that the capabilities of the bike are that bit lower than a full suspension, it's the rider's skill that determines the pace and not the bike. I've seen people with very little experience getting into trouble on a trail riding a full suspension because the bike's capabilities are so much greater than theirs.
A hard tail is a great place to start off at mountain bikes, to learn the skills (I'm still in this bucket) and just enjoy the trail at a lower and more engaging pace than you would on the full suspension.
I haven't ridden a steel frame but you make it sound compelling and it may be the next MTB option I go for!
Thanks again for the great review.

LOL that trail looks like a gravel road I would love to find! The MTB trails are sooo rooty my back cant take a hardtail anymore. Great reviews @DavidArthur I’m new to the channel and love it.

    That bike looks stunning.
I'm hardtail all the way. Unfortunately never had chance to ride steel, always been alloy. But that looks excellent, like a piece of art, some real thought into the design and yummy welds

Bought up on 1990s HTs, ‘upgraded’ to FS for a few years…
Modern hard tails are extremely capable, won’t be going back to a boring, skill compensating FS… kills fun.

Is the steering floppy side to side with such a slack head tube angle? I’m think of building one for SS XC use. Thanks!

Looking at the geo chart, stack looks really low at 586mm and the same for all three sizes which is a bit odd. That's even less than what you see on most XC specific hardtails.

  • @mancello
    @mancello 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The problem with such a short seat tube is that even with a 400mm seat post you might not get proper leg extension. I checked the sizing and even the largest frame wouldn’t work for me. I’m 6 feet 3 inches tall with longish legs.

David, have you had a chance to weigh the bike? I'm in the queue for a custom steel hard tail in the newsboy style by a company called Retrotec in California, and just curious as to what these steel hard tails might run in terms of weight. Thank you for the video.

Can anyone explain to me what the logic is with having the seatstays join the seattube above the top tube? Steel MTB frames seem to exclusively have this feature already since the 90s. I really don't like the aesthetics of it. I think it kind of messes up the lines of the frame and I don't understand what this is supposed to accomplish.

I had e cromo bmx then a Mtb full cromo. Being a 26er back then the bike was quite light. Not sure if I'd go back to cromo but I'd consider it if the weight was close alloy.

I don't think people will be able to afford a bike with the cost of living crisis never mind a full suspension and a hardtail.
