    Many years ago, I had a huge lily garden as well. I would have to say, the star gazer lily was my favourite. The smell, and colours took my breath away! I so enjoy watching you grow your garden

    Amaryllis picotee is one of my favorite lily varieties. The crisp white petals with the slightest red border are an amazing combination. The petals remind me of apple slices any time I see them lol!

    OMG, this was like exactly what I needed to watch today, flower gardening to refresh my soul, thank you 💝💝💝😄 It will be fun to follow along to when they bloom for you. I used to grow tulips, daffodils, and Lillies in my garden when I lived in the northeast but most of those wouldn't survive here in central FL 😞 My husband keeps telling me to plant some bulbs and so what if they only make it through one blooming cycle, just plant new bulbs again for the next year......perhaps someday I will try. I have heard of digging up the bulbs, shaking off the dirt, putting them into a paper bag then putting the bag into the vegetable drawer in the refrigerator to simulate a winter chill, then repotting the chilled bulbs again after some number of weeks but haven't ever tried this and am unsure of how long bulbs should be chilled....seems like more work than I want to take on and besides, the vegetable drawer is full of vegetables most of the time so no room to spare 🤣

    I have a pink/purple asiatic lily (purple Eye/Purple Dream). It survived even in a transparents pot that was forgotten on my balcony and got wet and froze. I wanted to throw it out the next spring and was surprised to see that the bulbs had already started to sprout again. I will have mine the third year this coming spring. I love the fact that they are not fragrant. I also had the larger lilys, that are super fragrant, and they gave me migraines.
    I can only recommend the peruvian lily/ inka lily! I fell in love with it a few years ago when I bought a bouquet of flowers for my mom, that had them in it. This June I finally found a huge variety of colors at out local home improvement store's garden section. 22 cm pot for 10€! Bought the only red one they had. It was in full bloom and it is still blooming - we already had night temperatures of 3°C here in Berlin - no problem! Bumble bees and solitary bees absolutely LOVE the blooms! I even have a few seeds now that I will try to plant soon. I also have mine in full sun on a south/west facing balcony - with wind though! It is currently growing new stems. If it survives the winter - which I'm confident in - I will definitely get other colors next year.
    Anyhow, I hope all your lilies will survive your summer. Fingers crossed!

    One thing I’ve been challenged by during the hot summers in Florida is that anything I plant in a clay pot (to keep the roots draining during the rainy season) ends up drying up and scorching in the pot! I try watering daily and even adding different soil mixes, but it’s like the clay pot bakes them! I’ve got to plant them in the soil. Maybe the fact that you’ve got dry season all year will mean that the clay will work wonders for you (clay soil rots my roots so I have to amend the soil 😛).
    Love the calla lilies! Don’t have them in my garden anymore but the lilies I do have come back every year.

    Hi Danny! I think lilies will do ok in your climate. They do great in mine and we actually get temps in the 100’s f in summer. I’ve never seen them struggle in heat. That said, we do get freezes and they (oriental and asiatic) do fine. I can grow tulips here so I do feel your pain about tulips-I love them. But you could put them in the fridge for 2 months and you will be fine! The white lilies might be Easter lilies which are very fragrant and are less cold hardy. I love the oriental and trumpet lilies but I also have asiatic, canna, day, Peruvian, calla and tiger lilies. I love lilies and I also hate the silly superstitions. Here crows are associated with death but I love them they are incredibly intelligent. I have the white calla lilies in my pond. With the alstromeria I would plant directly in the garden as their roots are brittle and delicate and don’t like to be moved. Good luck with the lily experiment! Thanks for sharing!

    Since it never freezes where you live, you could plant Amaryllis in your garden. They love sun and would naturally go dormant during winter and then bloom in spring. They even look a little like lillys

      @@MissOrchidGirl go ahead, plant a few amaryllis bulbs and I think you will discover that you can grow them there. I live in Central Florida with long hot summers (not quite as hot as you have) and grow my amaryllis in pots year round. They keep their green leaves most of the year to help replenish the bulbs for next season's blooms and a few will have their leaves turn yellow or brown but then send out green leaves again after a short dormancy. They reliably bloom every year for me, some start around Christmas and others wait until February or March to bloom. I like to grow them in pots so I can move them to a protected location if a hurricane threatens our area but my neighbor is braver and has hers planted in the ground. I add to my collection every year because I love their blooms so much! LOL, I am an amaryllis addict as well as an orchid addict 😄🥰

    Lilies are cool! I’m a big native plant nerd. There’s no true lilies native to my exact area (the only Liliaceae in my area are Erythronium albidum). There are however, ones that live within my state. I’ve particularly had my eye on Lilium philadelphicum.

    Hi Danny! Have you ever tried Clivia (Bush Lilies)? I don’t think they’re true lilies, but they’re gorgeous. I get big, showy orange blooms every March/April here in Southern California. I think you’d have to take them in during the hottest months of your summer, but they do fine with up to 30/32 degrees Celsius here. They’re also pretty drought tolerant, but they do need a bit of shade.

    • @RobinBea
      @RobinBea 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m just realizing that Clivia is a type of Amaryllis, which others have mentioned. But they have smaller clusters of flowers (which you love!). They do need some shade, though. I had to remove half the trees in my garden this year, and the Clivia on that side immediately got sunburned. Moved them to the shady side and they bounced right back.
