The Real Authors Of The Bible - The Naked Archaeologist 124 - Who Wrote the Bible?

  • Featuring amateur archaeologist, enthusiast and multi-award winning investigative filmmaker, Simcha Jacobovici, The Naked Archaeologist is an irreverent, entertaining and eye-opening journey into the fascinating archaeology of the ancient world. Along the way, new discoveries are made, lost treasures revealed, and ancient mysteries uncovered.
The Bible is made up of dozens of books, but tradition has it that the first five books were dictated to Moses, by God. But could Moses have really written down the words that God spoke, including the Ten Commandments? The Bible says that millions of people witnessed this event - but what does archaeology say?

Illiterate? Moses grew up in the house of the Pharoah for a reason- to get educated. Even hieroglyphs of the ancient pyramids show us signs of literacy. Only Moses and/or a specially appointed assistant needed to be able to write in my opinion

What I still don´t understand is since Moses lived around the 13th century BC, and the Standard hebrew saw its beginings in the 8th century BC, how did he managed to write the Torah in Hebrew. Unless you pull the Yehovah card. Moses was nursed by his mother and probably learnt to speak Canaanite or even a Paleo-hebrew, but did her mother knew how to write. His elder brother Aaron was jew and was fluent in egyptian and paleo-hebrew, Moses spoke egyptian and some paleo-hebrew, so it makes sense that Aaron was hired as Moses interpreter when speaking to the jews. In any case if the original Torah writen by Moses was in paleo-hebrew then somebody later had to transcribe the whole thing into biblical hebrew and that was a very good opportunity to change things involuntarily and voluntary. But it is an amazing feat to have some scholars that could read paleo-hebrew 500 years later after returning from captivity in Babylon. They probably had amazing universities those Babyloneans.

Since the process of the Documentary theory has the Bible allegedly written about 500 BC, a version of the Bible before eight hundred would disprove it. In fact if we have, as I think they say in this video, two verses from six hundred BC that would probably be before the Documentary writers began their creation of the Torah. Biblical passages themselves contest the theory, such as the passage about Josiah having the Temple cleaned and scrolls found and read. That would mean the scrolls were there before Judah went into captivity. The documentary theory has the documentary authors doing their creative writing after the Jews were carried off to Babylon.

That is a wonderful story told regards the discovery of the pottery. Reminds me of a story here in Derbyshire (UK). The local historical society were digging a Roman barn near the village of Ockbrook and had a young teenage boy with them. To keep him out of trouble they gave him a trowel and him to dig at a particular spot. Within an hour; perhaps even less, he presented the team leader with a gold ring. The ring turned out to be one of the most significant Roman stoned rings ever found in Derbyshire.

Wonderful series. For a very in depth understanding of the question at hand, you need to make an appointment at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel with Doctor Nehemiah Gordon. He has an electron microscope for detecting folical holes from dots on parchments. For the pass 20 years he has been gathering scrolls to determine why some actually have the actual authentic name of g-d or the relacement Lord. His work is very interesting & He is extremely knowledgeable in my humble opinion. He has published several books on the topic u r covering in this video.
It is my understanding that the first set of tablets were carved by G-d & given to Moses with an oral explanation that he would put them into practice & then write what he learned from G-d down. When he broke that first set, G-d had him make the tablets & also carve the words & that is why he was gone so long from his people.
Please keep unpacking this archeology. Perhaps watchers & learners of ur series need to know there is the Torah, Kabbalah, commentary & traditions. All have their place in & outside of this discussion.

My personal theory is, someone had the mission of joining both versions (north and south) and at that time, these versions were already considered holy so they did the least change possible. Another point of view, jews are used to book with many point of views/voices (talmuld/zohar etc) but not us with greek, so for them these two versions are right or wrong for the editor.

I always wondered about the accuracy of the Old Testament until someone explained to me how the Jewish scribes do their checking. I doubted no longer! Yes, the pentateuch was clearly written by Moses. Many other authors wrote the rest of the Old Testament. Then the New Testament came along. Now that I understand how we know that is accurate too, I do not doubt it. (I'm not Jewish.)

As a Christian myself I believe that these authors truly had the Holy Spirit come upon them to write down the words of God. Not only is moses refered to in the third person but his death and what happened after his death is in the books he supposedly wrote himself, that doesnt add up, any way you cut it there were multiple authors unles moses wrote from the grave

Ever considered Moses wrote it. (Very possible)
And then it was copied and updated by the scribes?
There IS evidence and record that scribes made copies. And evidence of the updated parts could be considered clear by the text being changed to first person or third person by the scribes making it obvious. Or adding historical tidbits, such as recording the death of the author into the timeliness of the story.

How does any of that disprove any of the idea of Moses writing the books? We see SEVERAL times in the Bible, people writing about events years, sometimes CENTURIES after their deaths, why is this ONE TIME suddenly put into doubt. It's commonplace to write in both 1st and 3rd person, only if he wrote in 2nd person would it be a problem.

Just because one can prove good quality control all the way to the 2nd century BC to present, and partially to the 6th century. That doesn’t mean it was faithfully copied from 12th century BC.
It is possible, but it’s not provable completely. It may be that the full composition and process of quality control came within that time. Many things can happen in a thousand years.

The New Testament all of those texts so the New Testament it's all written in ancient Greek, what you call the Old Testament, which is said to be written in Hebrew is a Greek text that's written in the 3rd Century it's a hellenistic text called the Septuagint, now called the Torah or the Old Testament, but it’s not in original Hebrew text.
The Septuagint is the Greek Old Testament, it's the oldest form that we've got, The whole big deal about the Dead Sea Scrolls was it was said, we finally have some Hebrew but, Hebrew is only an 8,000 word ancient language. Hebrew With an 8,000 unique word count language. The Dead Sea Scrolls were all in Hebrew the Dead Sea Scrolls were fragments in Hebrew and fragments in Greek and everybody assumed oh this is the original in Hebrew right because now we're following church history, in that there was an original Hebrew text of the Old Testament but there wasn't, it doesn't exist and when you show people the Greek now what's the proof what's the proof the proof is when you read the septuagint that is the Greek Old Testament. It does not read as a translation it reads as an original, it uses Greek idiom, it's like a fingerprint on a language and it's Greek.
How can you tell it read Greek fingerprints? How do you discern the difference between an original or a translation?
It's easy to tell because colloquialisms don't translate and so it's like tagging it, you're testing this language to see what its age is. So you tag it with certain identifiers, and one of them is colloquialisms, the other one is technical vocabulary. You cannot translate from a lower technical degree or a median technical degree to a higher technical degree. You can go down the slope, you can take something that's not technical and make it more technical. You can force it, but you can't drift Upstream, so the original is going to have the highest degree of technicality. And yes, the Dead Sea Scrolls were not the highest degree of technical writing, they were lower than the Greek. The Old Testament in Hebrew is a back translation from the previous Greek Septuagint.
To not know your history is to be amnesiac. I mean, if you met a person who couldn't tell you where they were from 1970 to 80 you would define them as a fairly damaged person but how many people do you meet who can tell you where western civilization was between 900 and 1600? People don't know. So, since they don't know, they can be fed any shit that is out there, they don't know, they have no idea.
So, the way to gain power is to reclaim a command of history. Like for instance, I remember when the vietnam war was breaking out and I was in school at the University of California in Berkeley and and the Professor said we all have to read Thucydides we all have to read about the war against Syracuse which was in Sicily and how it destroyed greek democracy and how it allowed the ascendancy of the dictatorship of the "Thirty".
Because the Athenian citizenry could not understand the war aims because the Athenian leadership didn't understand clearly what the warrings were. All the mistakes of the Vietnam War were repeated, or occurred in this war which was fought well before the year zero. But you tell most people to read Thucydides and they just give you a strange look well it's not because we want be obscurantists or we want to carry on conversations like Cambridge intellectuals, it's because we want to know what to do with the future and the first thing you do with the future: is you don't make the stupid mistakes that were made in the past.
      Terence McKenna

Your searching for truth, this video isnt going to provide it. The bible was written by 35 recognized writers, centuries apart. From kings to fishermen as inspired by One author who is clearly outside the realm of time. Over 1000 predictions, having come to pass with such precision, many scholars conclude the books were written after the facts. Irrefutable evidence points to otherwise. 66 traditional books that set absolute standards for every principle and precept mankind would face during his time on earth. All relevant to every generation. It gives direction on how to navigate through the an individuals life, while facing forces beyond the physical realm governed by time.
The bible opens with the introductiof The Realm of Time, when time began. Its Author identifies Himself as G-D. He dwells in a realm outside of time. As physical humans beings, we cannot grasp that, what that's like; we are timed creatures, made of body, soul and spirit. Our existence is to excersize the unique right of choice, given no nothing else in creation. The purpose of life to freely choose who we will serve. We can choose satan, a fallin being and his followers, who were not given choice but in a fraction of a second was casted out of G-Ds kingdom for disobedience, or we choose to follow GD. Our lives unfold to make this choice. Seeing our mortal weaknesses, G-D sent a Saviour, his Name , Jesus.
At the end of The Realm of Time, for in this realm all things are temporal. Our spirit and soul were created to go back to G-D, where our choice in this life will be weighted. A G-D of absolute perfect order, possessing all wisdom, knowledge. Understanding and power, will finalize our choice with the reward of eternal life with Him, or eternal life with satan where G-D, who created satan will sentence him to a place described as eternal torment; hell.
Note: 1/3 of Angel's, now demons followed satan. G-D has total power and authority over satan.
We were created in G-D's image.
The Realm of Time has by default a begining and end. The bible walks its readers thru it.

I have never in my life thought that the god I once believed in could do such atrocities and be so terribly dumb to leave 0 evidence and have “HIS” people fighting about wether or not he is real! He doesn’t sound very smart to me at all and I would assume a god is an intelligent being. With that said I wouldn’t be surprised if he burned me in hell for eternity for something that isn’t even my fault 🤷🏻‍♀️ why? Because he’s a SAVAGE!!! Letter by letter SAVAGE! If a human being was to do the things he commanded certain characters in the Bible today they would literally get either life in jail or the lethal injection. I feel relived that these things cannot be true and aren’t true! I have done nothing but good to the people around me, and even to people I don’t even know without going into details about it cause I don’t really care.. everything I’ve done, are doing, and will continue to do for as long as I’m alive I do it for my fellow human being! Not because there is a hell and I’m being threatened to do good. we are here today and we should all take care of each other for a better world, but it’s up to us! And I do feel sorry, because while some people are busy searching for our truths so that we can have a better understanding of who we are and what we can do to better our world, unfortunately a very large portion remains in la la land living to die .. searching for eternity, talking to a “spirit” that doesn’t seem to be answering anything or helping in anything at all. All we have, again, is ourselves. Good luck to you, and I hope you find enlightenment one day from the bottom of my heart, because believing that millions of people will burn for eternity and living with this psychosis in your mind isn’t good or healthy for non. ❤️🌎

I am a individual of principle, yes I have read the Bible for myself. I have also studied other religions. I found it way too coincidental for 7 class of animals representing millions of individual species to all come to the same point at the same time. The fish found in the Marianne Trench have the same basic viscera make up as an elephant or a frog. All fit perfectly. The dinosaurs even had everything. So where did all come from? Evolution? Millions of animals and plants all over the world just grew from some micro organism, didn't believe that. One night I was sitting on a wall, when looked up and asked if your G-D, you can hear me. Show yourself to me, because I don't believe in you. I've heard about about you, but I can't see you, I can't hear you. Show me how real you are.
I spent another 7 years looking into non biblical resources regarding Jesus. Here again, if your real, come into my life, I don't believe in you. Show me, ME, just how "real" you are.
If I'm right remember this. Remember this; the time is coming when One World order will take effect. Do not get any mark, image or number of one who will rule the world. The Bible' s predictions have never failed, you just don't know about them. Strongly recommend you give some consideration to what has proven itself to be true generation after generation. Start with just asking to show himself to you.
