    So what we find out is that Midland Powersports is just like any other Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Polaris, Yamaha, Arctic Cat, Bombardier, Indian, and Harley dealer.

    It would be good to talk about more defensive tactics to avoid accidents like this. For example, you have talked at length about adding various lights to your bike to make it more visible, yet you stopped behind a truck in the truckers biggest blind spot. People should think when around trucks or buses that you need to position yourself such that you can always see one of the truckers mirrors and thus be seen by the trucker. This accident didn’t need to happen, even with the trucker doing a bonehead backup on a street.

      That was my thought as well. In fact they cover that in rider training!

    Ok Cruiser man I’ve decided to comment on your incident. I’m 63 and been riding since 1983. I consider myself to be advanced rider. Also I’m a trucker of 30 years and have owned my own for 26 years. Now I agree he shouldn’t have backed up without looking to see if someone was back there. Now you’re mistake was you were directly in the middle of his icc bumper. If you were on the left and could see his mirror then he would have had a chance to see you. Also you could have just moved to the left and none of this would have happened. I know you have experience but never put yourself in the middle of any vehicle in front. Either stay to right or left. I live in Grapevine tx. You ever want to ride with me for just an hour you’ll have a wake up call on what we deal with. Hwy 114, i35 or 360 you pick. Then I’ll buy you lunch. Ride safe Fred

    Cruiseman, you've given a very fair review of your accident and repair situation. Thanks for sharing. I totalled a 1995 GoldWing in California when a truck pulled out in front of me and Progressive treated me fine. That led to my 2003 GW ABS which I still have.

    I have had to reinstall plastic panels after service work, that were not properly installed. I use it as an opportunity to give the bike a good look over. I've had to learn that once I give the bike a good post-service detail, to let go of any uncertainties and just ride the bike.

    Greetings from Hamilton, New Zealand. It's too early in the morning for a single malt, so I'm having a flat white with my toast and honey. I've been watching your channel for a while, and enjoy your in-depth videos, especially the visits to places like ShowChrome & Traxixion. You actually convinced me that a Goldwing was a good choice, and I'm now the proud owner of a 1992 GL1500SE Trike.
    I'm currently trying to find out how to fit things like my iPhone and GoPro. Most You-Tubers gloss over how their bits and pieces are attached to their Goldwings. I moved from a Speedmaster to a Goldwing Trike due to spinal issues and realised my handlebar fittings won't fit on my GL1500. I'm currently waiting for my local Honda dealer to get back to me. Meanwhile, I'm doing my own research. Maybe a good idea for a future segment.

    Thanks so much for taking us along with you on this unfortunate journey. For what it’s worth I had a similar experience and have nothing but good things to say about Progressive. I hit a turkey with my ST1300 just weeks before my retirement. The dealer said it would take months to get the needed parts as this was in the middle of the pandemic. I said this is not happening because I had some big motorcycle travel plans for my coming retirement. Progressive wrote them a big check and I told them to keep the ST1300 and sell me that 2021 Goldwing. 2 years and 35,000 miles later I’m a happy guy. I still get to go visit my old ST because after fixing it they’re asking $2,000 more than I paid for it 3 years and 25,000 miles ago. 😂 For some reason this dealer enjoys watching inventory collect dust.
    Anyway I have nothing but respect for you and Max. I’m glad to see things worked out well.

    Very well done Cruiseman. I'm with Ballman555, I think a 1000-mile revisit will be in order and will give you something more to post. Great thinking on contacting Maxx. Always go to the pro's you trust for an independent assessment. He's right if you think about it. Common sense says our GW's will see thousands of harsh hits from potholes and other road hazards throughout their lives. Honda didn't make them so fragile that they come apart from that type of unpredictable abuse. And, my understanding is the new front fork design is even more robust than the previous generation. Thanks for a great, well done, professional series summary.

Now that you mentioned that Traxxion Dynamics' engine case guard stayed strong with the forklift, I'm going to actually try out my Let's Roll lift and dolly combination and see how it works with my 2018 Goldwing and Max's engine case guard installed. Thank you, Cruiseman, for all you do.😊 dan

    Very interesting,informative, and detailed account of your whole experience. You showed exceptional courtesy and restraint in the way you responded to some comments which perhaps deserved a more harsh reply. Looking forward to hearing about how the negotiations with the trucker's insurance company turn out, although resolution to that could take quite a while, possibly more than a year

    Glad things have been working out for you from your accident. One thing that seems to be happening, at least in my area, when you call 911 to report a accident, unless there is a personal injury or one of the vehicles is blocking traffic, the Sheriff Dept will not respond. I think the local city Police Dept's still respond though.

    Hello Cruiseman always enjoy your video's even if there not Goldwing related. I could almost feel your disappointment, frustration, shock and being out of sorts from the accident. Especially not being able to avoid the accident, not having your camera running and not wearing your lower body armor sounds like something that would happen to me but the main thing is you were OK! As far as that dealer goes they were lousy at best and I worry about taking my bike in for any service because of the exact things that happened to you. I hope you checked the torque settings on everything they replaced and gave it a good once over. I trust what Max said about it being safe providing that the repairs were done properly but I don't trust the person that did the repairs. Thanks again for your video's and keep them coming and remember ride often and always ride safe😁

    Progressive treated you well. But by then they knew who you were. I'd like not to be cynical and tell you that they would treat us all equally but...nah...I love that Max McAllister gave it his blessing. There cannot be too many people who know that bike as well as he does from an engineering perspective. I think i'd feel safe if he gave me the all clear too.
    I never experienced a Bike shop that wasn't sloppy I've owned motorcycles in the UK ,U.S and Australia and they all sucked.

    Glad to get "the rest of the story" on your dilemma with the crash. Smart move on your part not allowing them to wash the GW. I made that mistake before and there were swirl marks and fince scratches all over my GW. That was after I had Honda replace many parts on my GW that I ordered back in 2018 after I had many farkles installed-yes, it was a fiasco but shame on me with the purchasing the new gen-6 GW. In retrospect I should have been more patient and allowed time for the technical installation material to become available for the installation tech. Oh well lesson learned. Anyway happy for you! Now get out there and ride the beast like there is no tomorrow!

    Good info. That’s one big reason I don’t ride a goldwing i dont like the service departments. Always feel like I’m at a car dealership. Just think they are are not that concerned about you and your vehicle. Not saying other brands aren’t the same. I ride a 21 road glide limited with 50,000 miles on it. I am completely comfortable with the dealer I use. They have gone out of their way to make sure everything is done right and on time. I don’t really like mechanic work so I don’t do a lot of it. I do like the goldwing and are considering looking at the 24s when they come out.

    I seem to have a totally different view... I ride and drive elderly vehiclss that are basically written off econimically when I purchase them. Even a small accident will total them so I do not have to worry about repairs not being done properly. I may loose a bit of money, yet not more then a few hundred bucks if it gets totaled. When I have work done on my ST1100 by my local repair shop, I remove the plastics myself. Saves a few bucks and gives me the possibility to clean underneath. And they cannot damage the plastices, I will do that myself 🙂...

    So glad everything is getting sorted out and that your bike was repaired properly, albeit except for a few relatively minor details.
    Please let us know if there are any repercussions from Progressive, come policy renewal time.
    I mentioned in a previous post, my experience with Aviva Insurance following a damage claim for my ‘21 GoldWing Tour. I hit a pothole, damaging my front rim and tire… No fault of my own and I have a very clean driving and insurance claim record.
    According to Provincial insurance regulations, here in Ontario, Canada, hitting a pothole is considered an at-fault collision. The city absolved themselves of any responsibility, so I had to contact Aviva. The adjuster was very polite and gladly processed my claim. The repair estimate was $2400.00. I had $500.00 deductible, so Aviva’s cost… $1900.00.
    Repairs were made… after an 8 month wait for an OEM Honda rim and all seemed well… until I received my renewal notice from my insurance company. I chuckled when I saw what they now wanted for a year of insurance. I thought it was a typo. My annual premium had jumped from $1500.00 to, get this, $8,900.00. I called… not a mistake. For hitting a pothole, they now considered me, high risk. This new risk assessment will follow me for six years, decreasing one point for each claim-free, ticket-free year.
    Your incident is obviously different from mine, in that there was another party involved who was deemed at fault. And your insurance regulations in the US probably differ from ours. I’d still be interested to hear if this claim affects your policy premiums down the road.
    Anyway… Ride safe. Happy trails.
    Cheers,
    Dwight

    Cruiseman, I still keep asking the question: Why did you turn this into your insurance, and not the insurance company of the trucker who carries commercial insurance??
    And I fully agree with Max, I would not worry about the repairs either....and what would make a great video would be you riding to Traxxion and getting a suspension upgrade.
    And Like I commented in another video, you would get reimbursed for your towing cost....right?

  • @Kwhopperfan
    @Kwhopperfan ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t think totaling of a vehicle is request based or everyone that wanted a different vehicle due to a fender bender would go that route. We all know “totaled” is when the repairs exceed the market value of the vehicle. Sometimes they will even repair a vehicle up to the value of the vehicle as I’ve experienced despite it not making total sense.

  • @davidfalgout7304
    @davidfalgout7304 ปีที่แล้ว

    First: What do you think about Max's VERY strong suggestion that the Honda Suspension needs his upgrades. The expensive upgrades make sense, but are they needed? Those upgrades costs a lot of money!
    Second: You might check out Geico just for grins. I have be rIding ( BMW's) with them since 1989. Needed them twice ...they were great! Always the best price !

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Goldwing will definitely benefit from Max's upgrades...dramatically. As to whether or not the upgrades are "needed" will be up to individual riders. A lot depends on your riding style, your weight, etc. If you are an aggressive rider, you will notice more value to the upgrades.

    In my experience these Honda powersports dealerships do more repairs on ATV's and jet ski watercraft than they do motorcycles and in my personal experience their repair work is substandard. Although I greatly admire the Goldwing I would likely not buy one because all the Honda dealerships in my area are these types of general powersports dealerships and motorcycle repairs are not their expertise.

    Regarding the review of the dealer, it seems it rates like any other dealer not doing the job the way it should be done and the customer expects. I hate that and that is why I buy your videos so I don't have to take it into the dealer. On Progressive, I have them for my insurance, but I had an accident back in 2005 with my 1993 GL1500. I was riding down a city street, the speed limit was 40, and I was doing 45. I got rear ended by a driver doing 65 - 70 mph, talking on a cell phone who had no insurance. I had the bike towed to a shop. I called Progressive and the shop did the estimate on repairs. Progressive never called me back, and they never called the shop. After two weeks, I ended up getting a trailer and taking the bike back home after paying the shop for the estimate and storage fees. Come to find out, I had Public Liability and Property Damage coverage on my bike, and did not have uninsured motorist coverage. Progressive didn't even waste their time with me and I ended up repairing the bike and paid for everything myself. The lesson I learned is that I tell everyone, even though I don't think it is right to have to pay for coverage for an uninsured driver, it is best to have full coverage and let the insurance company deal with the other driver.
