This is definitely one great looking truss bridge for N scale layouts. Kato make a very similar bridge (exact same size), that comes already made. It looks very good too EXCEPT it's only made for their (what I call), toy track system. Pity because this Walthers bridge requires lots of patience & time to put together.

Yes, there are a lot of areas on this kit that could have been just molded as one. But in the end it is a nice kit and it has held together well.

A very nice looking model. The only thing to be aware of is that M.E.K. gives a very brittle joint over time. If you should ever have to move the bridge in 5yrs time the glue joints could shatter. To move it keep it attached to some scenery. Cheers Chris Perry.

Nice work on the bridge! If you really want a challenge, try building one of Central Valley Model Works Parker truss bridge kits! THOSE are definitely NOT beginner kits! They do make a very nice bridge when done, though.

I just finished this bridge myself and oh god did my deck curve like crazy. I think the tolerances on the parts are too tight, so each cross brace you slot in slightly pushes the top of the longer beams out, forcing it into a curve. Had to really fight to get the sides on, but that leveled it out for me.

Maybe those girder deck slots could be trimmed slightly using a hobby knife so that the tolerances aren't so tight that causes the bowing ?? I have ordered this bridge so good to see what to expect. 👍

Nice how to - I am modeling in N-Scale and have been wondering about making a Walthers kit myself but was not sure of the quality. I scratch built a trestle bridge, but will eventually need a more modern bridge on my layout. Thanks for sharing...Anthony

Now that I have built this bridge I ran into the bowing problem like you. I think when you put the bottom cross braces on the long girders, it forces the slots open which causes the bow. The slots are too narrow on one or the other

I have since had a couple of the braces along the top come loose but other than that, it has held up pretty well.

Awesome job with that walther's kit. Curious did the kit come with cross braces for the top?

In my opinion, the Atlas bridge is better and far easier to assemble. Nothing to cut, and it includes rails, rail joiners and they're easy to combine more bridges to it.

I was wondering if you were going to make it look Rusty because most of them you see in real life are really rusty

Show some crackling and chipping paint exposing the black base coat.
