She's brought in a new style of HI that's very character oriented. Not only that, she pushes the boundaries of HI appropiatness to a whole new level. Comedic timing, working the crowd, and facial expressions are all champion material. She refuses to conform to HI style. She's really flexible towards audience reaction too. I saw her new HI (Fat Kids On Fire) and she kept tailoring her tech to the audience.
this girl is one of the nicest people i have even met!! plus she is amazingly talented!! I also agree that this piece perfectly balances the humor...considering some of the other pieces in finals...this one was just fine! GREAT PERFORMANCE!
She is my speech crush!!! haha i love her! she also won this year with her fat kid camp piece and she's going to western kentucky university, where she visited last week and performed for the forinsics camp, which i was at! She so good and nice :)
You perform the piece how you see fit and the judge will have the save of whether they deem it too "inappropriate." I'd say considering this won, and last year's "Controlling Interests" was also in final round, I'd say people are responding very well to a little less than wholesome humor.
@crimsonmonie You obviously do not know what you are talking about. The NFL rule is that a finalist in any main speech event who is not a graduating senior is automatically qualified to the next years nationals in that same event. That competitor may chose to go in a different event, but if they compete at districts in another event, regardless of being double entered, they forfeit the auto-qual. No one is guaranteed to be in finals IN ANY CASE. There is no rule of this sort for NCFL.
@wannabemusiclover Not including her win in 2010... which I think was better than '09... that's not to say that '09 wasn't one of the best I've ever seen. :)
You are clearly not seeing the same piece we're all seeing. Her facial expressions and mannerisms are different for each character. While I'll concede it might be a little "Inappropriate" - do you really not think High Schoolers watch things MUCH worse than this. It seems to me that the pieces that push the limits are the ones that are doing well. Maybe its because people like the limits being pushed. Either way, this isn't the Christian Forensics League. There is no "moral standard."

I can only imagine what her and Tyler will accomplish on the college circuit.
unlike 2007 and 2008, the 2009 champion deserved the 1st place title.
@crimsonmonie that's just not true. Joe Brenckle finaled in 09, but didn't final in '10.
wow she is GOOD!! National champion 2 times in a row!!!:O
