This was followed by sankranti feast items first served to family ancestors ( who left this world) and then served to family members.

That's how Pongal or Makarasankarati is celebrated and it is a harvest festival and newly harvested rice is used to cook gud chawl moong dal and milk and it is called Sakkarai Pongal
Instead if we use pepper jeera ghee and salt and cook this is known as Ven Pongal Ghee is used for Pongal as well.

This feast is for the harvest festival called "Pongal". This is how Pongal is celebrated in TamilNadu. Harvest festival is celebrated across India on different dates and called in different names.
Although people do eat in the same leaf (each will have their own leaf for their food) but rest of the items, enjoyment are same.
They will allow the rice to boil and flow out of the pot which is also called Pongal in tamil. This is basically a practice to allow the boiled rice to flow out of the pot during this festival.
And @Iman/Moazzem, there ain't no wheat or it's flour anywhere in these preparations down in Kerala!! It's anything & everything to do with Rice!! In KL(Kerala) don't spk of🤐 'wheat'!! ... 😅
