I had just the opposite addiction years ago. I would fix up the old chevelles, mustangs and cutlasses but put them up for sale as soon as they were fixed. Those cars are almost impossible to find on the east coast now. I wish i had some of those cars now. Beside that the car prices are through the roof nowadays. My health doesn't allow me to do the work i used to. I sure do miss restoring cars.
I think you need to move out to the country. Big piece of land with house on it and two large shops (steel buildings) one for all metal fab, assembly and painting. The other for car storage. Radiant floor heating for sure. Try to concentrate on building three cars at a time, (if waiting for parts, etc. you carry on with the next build) building to finish with quality. Build your own fleet, then build completed cars to sell.
haha, that's the fun in big boy toys. You got them to enjoy even if it's unrealistic. If you get tired or lose interest pass it to someone that shares the same enthusiasm as you once did. You did mention you have these cars but parking some of them in other peoples properties then that's time to do something about that.
I started to run into that issue with motorcycles. Now what I do is I buy one bike, rebuild, modify and ride it for a little bit. Then sell it and use the funds to buy and work on another one. There are a ton of old bikes in a salvage yard that are about to be scrapped that I want to get, but I had to force myself to walk away because I already have too many things on my plate and I already have a bike I am working on.
Maybe do a video on making some of them run and drive again. You could let people see the problems that come up when you don't drive them often enough. Maybe do a raffle or giveaway again.
HI Dan I completely get it. I have never had as many cars as you have. I only have had four but live in the city and work from home. I just sold my 69 Cougar Convertible which was a project to a guy who is really into them and I know it will be fully restored. It felt great clearing out a ton of parts from the basement and garage and having extra room. I am not stressing out about paint colours or finding good engines or finding parking. I can now concentrate finishing my 69 Mustang and Triumph and have the cash to do so.
I'm a farmer...also work a regular job....space not a problem....but...dang...no time..... and the money thing.... that's always a problem.... Much respect for you Dan
You are not alone my friend ... it is a sickness. My hang up was '54 & '40 Chevy trucks like my grandfather had on the farm. I'm on my 4th '54 and had all the sizes. Settled on a 1 ton dump and never found the 1940 1-1/2 ton. My current collection also include a '41 Chevy one ton and a 1948 Buick straight 8. Been watching your channel for almost a year and I have spent many hour looking for a '56 Chevy wagon to LS swap. I blame that on you ... kidding. Many years ago my brother had a '55 convertible with a glass nose, I prefer the '56. If your selling that one put me on the list. Love your show enjoy all the stuff you guys get into. Oh and I do lose sleep thinking about selling my 14 motorcycles.
I just downsized- best thing I ever did- I was not even doing basic maintenace on many of them from year to year- now so much room in the barn- money in the bank to look for replacements if desired-😀
Dan, take the ones you like to the next level . Paint jobs interior engines you got the coolest cars everyone would die for now . Make them jems. Endless episodes of madness.😊
Hey I know the feeling and I only have 4 classic cars and a couple of winter beaters and 12 ish older Harleys want more and see deals that can not be missed out upon, yeah addicted allright. What makes me feel better is that there are many more of us that are in similar boats. Keep it up.
In the similar sitch Dan..Got 3 daily drivers and 6 oldies. A "finished" 55 BA post, a 67 Malibu "almost survivor" driver, also FINALLY got my 66 factory 396 BB El Camino (project truck) running and ready for some patina/weathered driving, another 66 El Camino project truck, and a 67 El Camino project truck and a ratty ol 65 El Camino. So, 9 cars in total. 3 dailys, and 3 old cars on the road and the 3 project trucks. The 65 is definitely going (eventually, as is OR after I part it out maybe) and the other 66 Camino eventually....I'd love to keep em all but, like you are talkin in the vid and everything....There's ALL that and with me also? I simply just can't afford to "finish" the other projects TBH. But? I have the "WANNA SAVE em ALL" mindset still, and WHO better to do that than .... ? ME🙂.... Time will tell...Lol. But yeah, somedays that I do get OVERWELMED by all of em? IF I had a buyer then and there, I would definitely let the 2-3 GO, that need GONE....Happy Restoring and Cruizin😎🤘🤘
Hey Dan, I feel your pain with having too many projects and not enough time to get them all to where you want them. There is only so much one guy can do at a time. I say just buy a bigger piece of property and keep them all LOL. I think that most of the people watching your videos would like to see you take one of your cars at a time and get it where it is a good runner. It isn't just about the big projects I want to see you driving them as well. That's part of the joy in working on this old metal.
Spoken like a True Hoarder. I've decided it's time for me to reevaluate my cars. I'm older than you and starting to think there's other thing I might enjoy. Have a good one Buddy 👍
Gee, I wish I had your troubles. Recently, I became handicapped & was forced to sell my 1950 Chevy hotrod, that I bought as a stock engine / drive train car. I had that car for over 20 years & just threw a Summit Racing " Nascar 350 Vortec-Fast Burn engine in it, before selling it, without even putting 200 miles on it. Then, as I got sicker & was in the hospital, I got a phone call from my brother, he told me, my son just died. I lost it, the nurses had to give me something, to calm down & stop freaking out. I didn't wanna live anymore. So, count your blessings young man, you are more blessed than you realize. Stay safe my friend.
I'm in the same boat! 22 cars on 1 acre...and I just bought a '58 Plymouth, well most of it, to build! I get overwhelmed as well as every car seems to need a lot. I also have a YT channel so constantly have to work on stuff for content and keep it fresh. Just doing 2 videos a week is a lot and Dan, you do more than that! It's like an addiction or a sickness I guess! 😂 Anyway, back to my garage to build a trailer...for my dragster...so I can move it around...to get other stuff in...well you know what I mean! 🤦♂️
Honestly, going through the same thought process this morning. Not about cars specifically, but all the projects in my life. I think we are all sensing that some bad shit is going to go down soon. Call it Divine Warnings. IDK.
Don't buy another until you sell one. If you don't drive them, what good are they? I wouldn't mind watching a few maintenance/upgrade videos. Anyway I enjoy watching you do your thing.
Well Dan it becomes an addiction every rust-bucket that comes along you want to save and turn back the clock so they can be on the road again. I'm 72 and I haven't stopped yet.
Really resonated with this video now I'm up to 10 cars. Woke up thinking what the hell am I doing. Even to let one go will be a start. Love watching this sort of real and honest content,
I only have 2 and they consume so much of my time and money...I can't imagine the logistics of keeping 22 cars going, with insurance, Tags...I get that you have to keep fresh content coming, but just keeping batteries in them would almost be a full time job! Kudos to ya man!
LoL. I have 14 cars I had my own shop but then got a job working for the government so I got rid of my shop and bought land with the intent of building a barndominium 6 bay with living quarters. I have plans for all of my cars but I have been bogged down working on other people's vehicles. I have one last project for someone else and then it's on to focusing on building a working on my stuff. And yes I am constantly on market place looking for the next vehicle I'm going to drag out to my property and let sit until "someday" . Great channel keep up the good work.
There's something to be said about seeing a car you built running around town or even being improved upon. I put a front-flip on a 96 Bonneville in 2000. It was a color called lichen green. I tinted the windows with a green based tint. I watched it trade hands a few times and nowhere it still sits. It was well enjoyed 😜
I share your love and frustration. One suggestion is simplify the cars' mechanics. Single 4 barrels on stock, cat iron intakes and no headers make life easier. But it might limit your enjoyment. It's for you to decide.
I agree you have to down size at times, but be careful which ones you sale so you don’t regret later like me. Or buy big farm and move to country and keep them all 😂. Love the video 👍😎✌️
I find myself in this situation quite a bit and even more lately but some are rare finds then the reality of others in front of it. Quagmire of sorts. I've done that car shuffle bit myself too sometimes you spend more time doing that than the actual task that you wanted to do.
I used to have 7 cars and trucks and what stressed me out was rotating cars so the batteries didn't go dead, but most of all the tags and insurance was a nightmare! Just not worth it keeping that many on the road at one time.
If it's really stressing you out pick 5 or 6 and sell the rest. Take them all to the next level with paint, interiors and other speed goodies. 5 or6 gems has got to be better than 24 half finished ones.
I don’t count them anymore, as long as you have space and can store them so they don’t degrade no need to downsize. My current 55 Buick build would of been scrapped if not for the guy who stored it since the 1970s.
DAN YOUR SHOULD PUT ON THE LIST::The 56 4 door wagon, the Biscayne, maybe (if she'll let you) Dani's 57,the Cobra, the model a coupe body at your friends house, the camaro's
I live in the city too. And Ive managed to keep it to just what i can keep on my property. I can house 10 but the worst I got was 7 . Now I am down to 4. Almsot bought number 5 last week. Dodged a bullet lol
Hey Dan love your vids. No one needs 22 cars. But the ones you keep should all be garaged. Suggest you keep firing up loud exhaust at 11pm. Your neighbors will either take up a collection or shoot you. Oh I forgot ur in peaceable Canada. Not war zone USA
Manitoba's a big space, Dan. You should try to find a few acres out in the boonies to store your excess, sometimes forgotten iron. Buy, if it's somewhat affordable or rent or whatever suits you. 22 cars is a problem in metro Winnipeg but no big deal someplace past I think I hear banjos, Manitoba.
I know what you mean, every couple years I usually sit back and take inventory of what I have and what I actually drive, if I don’t use it I usually sell it. That being said sentimental cars stay forever, I learned that the hard way before.
I FEEL UR PAIN,,WHEN I HAD MY CAR SHOP,,BEFORE I HAD MY STROKE & 4 MONTHS IN HOSPITAL,,N SOLD MY SHOP ,,AND 2OO CARS N PROJECTS ,,HARD DECISIONS ,,BUT YOU GOTTA CHOOSE UR RATHERS PICK WHAT U LOVE N MOVE ON ,,AND DONT LOOK BACK ,,KEEP LOOKING AHEAD,,AND STILL HAVE A BUNCH OF CARS,,LOL ,,GOOD LUCK
I went from 18 down to 6 . I drive one different for a week. I buy cars , fix them or save them and pass them to the next guy to fulfill his dream. When the hard part is done and a young guy drives 4 hrs to buy it ,,,, that look on their face is priceless. Just pass them on Dan . The money is great and you can still buy , fix and make videos .
3 Yards!!! So glad to see this car back as it’s what drew me to your channel in the first place. ! It’s a disease and best just to accept it. FWIW I think 22 cars is what winning looks like!!
Scott Newstead had the same problem so he bought a place big enough to store them all. He does need to add some more sheds to keep the finished projects in.
This is a nice car wen I was about 6 or 7 my neighbors took me to church with that same car but 4 doors good memories I’m 2 year’s older I think your old Chevy is like me some day I’m hard to start too I enjoy your video thanks see you on the next one
At one point I think we had 17 or 18, maybe 19 cars. A lot of them were projects I didn't have the time nor the funds to do anything with. We eventually sold a few, but at last count, I think we still have 10, maybe 11, cars left. Yeah, it's still too many when I dont even know for sure what we have or dont have at this point.
Yeah it would be hard I'm not much into the 55 but I could see where you like it but you got that 150 57 and it had it on the NASCAR track so that's a keeper so good luck on it you're living the dream
I had the same problem with big V twins & ancient bikes, a emergency move to Alaska kinda solved that, I’m still looking for a couple guys were supposed to give/sell me back my 2 favorites that I just gave them, 72 750 tiger & a “custom” widow maker pan/shovel, haven’t even had a real bike last 5 years, fist time since 78
Hey Dan this 55 that was on fb market place about 2 years ago popped back up it's a 55 hard top a x show car it was a body off restoration I think in the 80s it made a bunch of shows then sat in a garage for years it's broke and yellow 2 tone the interior is brown Dimond tuck it's got a small block in it he want 15k for it but really I think you could flush the gas tank maybe check the brakes out and put a battery in it may e rebuild the carburetor id say a few hours work and be driving it spend another day cleaning it up it's got dust all over it but I bet it would clean up really nice I don't have the money but I bet someone could flash him 11 or 12k and end up with a really solid hot rod. Too bad it's a hard top.
Thin some out Dan make the ones you drive and really like cooler, with your skills cars will always be available to you , drive em , race em, enjoy them, and let someone else do the same with some others you have.
I lived this life from 85 to 2012 man im glad its over waisted all them years on junk I have one left a 73 p 30 grumman olson step van with a workshop inside . I know what you go thru and its not good upgrade get a honda c RV bolt on a super charger and life will be so much better its amazing
Yep, that is how it goes.. Great problem to have though! You really need to start saying "I'll adjust the valves" everytime you lift that frontend. Extra points if a GTO is around.. 😅
Gotta say, I think I'm up to 36 or something like that. But that includes my big tandem axle project trucks. So there you go. You're not the problem until you start collecting old Kenworths and Macks.
I know it would be hard but sell some cars the houses and buy a place with some land and huge garage of course as you get older it will be worth it having everything in one spot.
I have a 99 Sonoma v8 project that I’m currently working on at the moment, but as a 3rd generation boat builder I love everything boats aswell . My dream car is a 55 Chevy 2 door and my favourite boat would have to be a 18 ft Double Eagle . But living in Vancouver BC Canada is a lil pricey. Keep them all Dan , DON’T SELL . Cheers 🇨🇦
Yeah my buddy's got 28 old cars that don't run he thinks he's going to get them all running and driving he's dreaming he's old and disabled like me oh yeah forget about the 600 engines and three huge buildings full Parts you know engine hoarders is nickname yeah so you're inspiring to him great day
Dan, I have five old cars and three motorcycles and I have same problem. Too many dead batteries and too many old tires and not enough money, but I dont want to sell anything. Hang in there. See you at the A& W.
I hear ya! I had 57 Motorcycles at one time & have had well over 1000. I now have one! It does get a little overwhelming having to many. There are a few I wish I had of kept though!
Hey Dan that’s probably one of the coolest cars you have speaking a stick shift you need to put a four-speed 05 speed of a car and the rear rim for a two Lane blacktop that’s one of the coolest cars
To many cars can definitely be a burden. Dead batteries, bad starters, endless tinkering with stuff you dont really care about. It gets old fast. TH-cam is really the only reason you have all these cars (to create content). Lighten the load and feel less stress in general. I sold 3 of my 6 cars in 2020. Dont miss them at all and I can put more quality into the cars i want to keep. Remember theres ALWAYS a car to buy out there.
They say Dan you can tell alot about a person by his possessions if it was a secret before it isn't anymore its like a dilemma that any gear head would savor or stuff to bust a knuckle on kinda like when you clean the garage out but in the end putting more things in it than you had in the beginning just a new reason to recycle I guess and you would drive Dani nuts if you got rid of everything she couldn't except you any other way be careful and stay safe my friends God love ya both
Good conversation! I in no way begrudge a man for having many cars; let’s be honest I wish I could be in those shoes. My frustration, which you commented upon, is becoming that collector that gets so many that they sit & rot. Think of how many times we look to buy a car and there sits a number of other cars rotting in the sun, dashes cracking, window seals drying out allowing rust & decay, interior fading, mice have destroyed the interior, chewed on every wire and it recks of urine from the animals. And the story of that man being, yes I love cars, yes I got a great deal and yes I’ve failed by allowing them to become worse than they were when I “saved it” by moving it from his tree row to mine. I look at classic cars as a bit of stewardship, yes I own it ( or them) but I owe the hobby, the collector, the next guy, and for that matter, the car to at least preserve it for the next to do the same. We often give cars a name of a woman, if this in fact was a woman, are you ( or I) neglecting her? If we answer yes, it’s time to thin the herd to another who will not neglect but take care of it. Just my two cents, I enjoy the series of videos
I went through the same thing. Instead of selling my cars I bought a farm. Problem solved.
Same haha
me too
Your 2 lane black top is very cool it's a keeper. My favorite. But it boils down to whatever makes you happy .
Just do Adam lz get a whole compound invite all your rowdy friends
Not sure that solves the problem

I have 15 cars and I have just recently came to the same conclusion. It hurts but the cash will help finish other projects.
How could you not like a 55 Chevy with a tunnel ram big block!

I was surprised to see the Healey up forsale rather than the Opel. Atleast the Healey you can fit in with shoes compared to the shelby
DAN YOUR SHOULD PUT ON THE LIST::The 56 4 door wagon, the Biscayne, maybe (if she'll let you) Dani's 57,the Cobra, the model a coupe body at your friends house, the camaro's
Mur's vanity plate on the BMW of BEEMUR is awesome.
My dual quad corvette with no chokes starts like that every spring. Once I do the first start it’ll start well until lit sits for a month.
Dan you should alter the wheel base of the Chevy 2 and straight axle it, like the original A/FX cars and call it Dani’s Dream 😎
Crazy how they add up quickly!
I have very similar problems. Especially the lack of batteries.
I HAD five cars, which is manageable. Then I somehow bought a ‘56 Handyman wagon even after watching your videos. So, I get it.
You need a huge barn shop and acreage! with a small house!
You never get out of working on the.old hot rods I try I was so lost with out them it only lasted 5 months for me right back in to them
I FEEL UR PAIN,,WHEN I HAD MY CAR SHOP,,BEFORE I HAD MY STROKE & 4 MONTHS IN HOSPITAL,,N SOLD MY SHOP ,,AND 2OO CARS N PROJECTS ,,HARD DECISIONS ,,BUT YOU GOTTA CHOOSE UR RATHERS PICK WHAT U LOVE N MOVE ON ,,AND DONT LOOK BACK ,,KEEP LOOKING AHEAD,,AND STILL HAVE A BUNCH OF CARS,,LOL ,,GOOD LUCK
High-compression Pistons if they get too much fuel on top it compresses the top Rings like a vapor lock and usually burns the Piston.
Only 22?!? Those are rookie numbers! Gotta bump those numbers up... Triple digits is where you start to rethink your life decisions!
I got tired of Holleys leaking and switched to Edelbrock. So much nicer not having to replace bowl gaskets all the time.
Those Holly Snipers are nice but complicated. Its difficult to run down the small problems with them.
I understand the issue. I am addicted to cars. I have way to many but don't want to sell any. But I have cars parked at friends places etc.
keep the Biscayne. That's the rig that got you really rolling. you and VGG... junk batteries and no breaks
What's crazy is that he actually completely restores some of them! I could never finish one if I had that many cars.
When I moved into this new shop I sold around 40 of them even though I have more space now… still have way too many of them though
I've been watching the videos of that impala. Great video. Good morning from Athens Georgia!
I’m running a pair of 660 center squirts on my 468.. 32 Ford.
I WISH I HAD THAT KIND OF PROBLEM! You have cars I only dream of owning
Cheers 🇨🇦
Damn...The 68 Impala wagon was my 1st Car...my parents bought it brand new..I want another one! Ivory w/ Saddle int...327/300 TH400.
Yeah my buddy's got 28 old cars that don't run he thinks he's going to get them all running and driving he's dreaming he's old and disabled like me oh yeah forget about the 600 engines and three huge buildings full Parts you know engine hoarders is nickname yeah so you're inspiring to him great day
Thomas from Tennesse and cursed owner of a 55 Nomad myself. Love the content and Love the T on Danis glasses. Go Vols!
Dan, I have five old cars and three motorcycles and I have same problem. Too many dead batteries and too many old tires and not enough money, but I dont want to sell anything. Hang in there. See you at the A& W.
That is rough, I only have one car, a 77 Lincoln Town Coupe', but I do have 8 trucks and 15 tractors...
I hear ya! I had 57 Motorcycles at one time & have had well over 1000. I now have one! It does get a little overwhelming having to many. There are a few I wish I had of kept though!
Holy moly!
Hey Dan that’s probably one of the coolest cars you have speaking a stick shift you need to put a four-speed 05 speed of a car and the rear rim for a two Lane blacktop that’s one of the coolest cars
I enjoy watching whatever you put up. I like driving videos. I like seeing enjoyment from the project not just always working on it.
Don't stop doing what you love. Probably a good idea to move on from a few cars, hey? Maybe buy a bigger garage? Keep up the great work!! Cheers!! 😎
Put those breathers and tops on the 55 and make the stacks taller.
Was watching that back up job... thinking.. does he need that much space to back up? lol Love all the cars. Go Dan Go!
I just counted I got 11. I have plans to build at least a three Bay shed this summer fingers crossed
Good call, it's always a good thing to reflect on the herd. Good to see the tri-fives are making the cut!
Dan you have a Derick starter kit with your collection he has been thinning the herd also the difference is the majority of your 22 run and drive.
