A World Heritage Site and location of a 6th century Christian monastery, it has gained recent fame by being featured at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and features extensively in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

I, and my fiancé, took a terrifying boat ride out to the 'Skelligs' in 1988. The seas were so rough I thought we may be goners...I'm no stranger to the ocean. Once we docked most of the other people, about 10, did not get off the boat because they were so petrified. About a hand full climbed to the top with us. It was spectacular.
When I saw the islands in the movie I knew right away it was the 'Skelligs'. I was siting in the theatre with my fiancé, now my wife. We looked at each other and smiled.
You both had an extra dimensional connection to the island which no other person in the theatre had.
No wonder you shared a smile.
I'm from Ireland but I've never been out there.

The movie made it worse for people who have property on the coastline because the value skyrocketed.
How many hours can you stay on it? Possible to sleep overnight?
The film and music here are truly perfect for this beautiful place. I was blessed to climb to the top and experience the tranquility and nearness to God those monks once felt. Lifechanging experience. If this music doesn't stir your soul, you are a rock.

but keep in mind The Skellig Michael is extremly dangerous, a girl at the top stepped back to take a photo/ selfie and fell to her death, a few years ago, this was not an isolated incident
when i went up there about 20 years ago there were no hand railings on the path to the summit,not sure if it's different know but i doubt it

Absolutely not. Your lucky to be allowed walk up. You have to book months in advance and there is limited numbers. Lots of people in Ireland are delighted by tourism star wars is bringing, lots are not. Its a scared christian site and should be kept as such.
They allowed camping for a while on the protected Gallapolos Isands but the authorities had to reverse the practice 'cos the giant lizards were becoming dangerously over-weight.
