One thing all these people have in common is........AGE. Starting 'photojournalists' have very little if any chance of getting where these people are or were. The people started when photojournalism was still exclusive. Since phones and social media, anyone is a photo journalist and many are self proclaimed 'photo journalists'. Imagine a world in the future where medical issues can be resolved by anyone, no need to goto qualified doctors, all the answers can be delivered by anyone and a solution can be given by anyone. This now diminishes the status and existence of the 'Doctor', someone whom was respected and their studies were admired. This is where I see photography today. Yes its changed dramatically for good but also there is a bad side to it too. I recall when I was young we had a local photographer dating back in the 80's. He was as special as the doctor, butcher, baker etc. Nobody else had cameras as they were expensive and the people that did must have had super powers or be truly gifted to create such wonder and awe by taking these photos. They were respected as people who were qualified and trained to do their job well. Fast forward to the advent of the smart phone and cheap cameras with processors that virtually take care of the exposure and we have no more magic, no more highly trained, respected people called photographers. Everyone can take photos when they want with amazing quality and clarity. Cameras today are not cameras but more so computers connected to lenses as are smartphones just computers with lenses.
That was awesome because it was void of any useful information. At the very very end the editor says make my job easier and pitch a story to me. That should save everyone some time
Nonsense! Look at the Media. Time magazine looks like a freebie! So thin! It's not equipment! Use your phone, self publish. Wanna be a War photographer. Go see a shrink! or a religous leader. Best advice, get a real job! I always did.
